Bama had a very skilled experienced defense especially in the secondary in 2017/2018 but in 2018/2019 losing all those guys hurt them. Then where Clemson had all their defensive linemen return gave them the edge on defense. Truth is even though Alabama won big in 2018 and Clemson won big in 2019 these 2 teams were fairly evenly matched, just Bama caught the breaks and momentum in 2018 and Clemson in 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if they meet again next year and Bama wins because they have a lot of returning players that will have something to prove just like Clemson's players did this year, getting embarrassed is a big motivator.

This game really told me a lot about how important all of those injuries on the defense really were. After a season and a few extra weeks to get healthy, this D looked like a completely different team than the one that struggled against Auburn and Mississippi State. Jalen Hurts played a better game on a 're-review' of this game 5+ months later than I remember. [ th-cam.com/video/WpHob6_qM0M/w-d-xo.html ] Jalen was locked into Calvin Ridley the whole time on this play that the announcer said hurts say Ridley at the last second. I don't like Jalen locking into one receiver (and if he isn't open Jalen then has to make a play with his legs) but in this case it worked. It looked like Jalen was keeping eyes down field.. even used legs to buy time in pocket and finally found a receiver... when in reality he did all of that except wasn't scanning reads but was determined to hit ONE read.. #3 ;)

The ball clearly hit the ground the tip of the ball on the view from the right side of him looking directly at him. Jalen Hurts played a better game on a 're-review' of this game 5+ months later than I remember. [ th-cam.com/video/WpHob6_qM0M/w-d-xo.html ] Jalen was locked into Calvin Ridley the whole time on this play that the announcer said hurts say Ridley at the last second. I don't like Jalen locking into one receiver (and if he isn't open Jalen then has to make a play with his legs) but in this case it worked. It looked like Jalen was keeping eyes down field.. even used legs to buy time in pocket and finally found a receiver... when in reality he did all of that except wasn't scanning reads but was determined to hit ONE read.. #3 ;)

Lol when you go back and watch this you realize that the qb for Clemson wasn't even the main issue... Alabama dominated them on the line of scrimmage and that includes their highly touted defensive line. They think they can just bring in a freshman qb and the gap is closed? Even if that were the case they're not the only team in this game that made an upgrade at QB. Only part of bamas team that isn't probably where it was at last year is at cb and even then that's only the true freshman Patrick surtain. All we heard about leading up into this game was Clemson's dline and how they would dominate and yet it was the complete opposite. They looked like an overrated bunch who did nothing but beat up on inferior offensive lineman in their conference. Bama had seen Defensive lineman that were just as good week in and week out and this year is no different.
