- At BYU's World of Dance 2019, Department Chair Curt Holman wanted a way to visually unify the five major performing ensembles in the Dept. of Dance (Living Legends, Theatre Ballet, Contemporary Dance Theatre, International Folk Dance Ensemble, and Ballroom Dance Company).
To make this happen, he and his crew ordered and distributed BYU Dance T-shirts to dancers in each group. Extra shirts were given to each tour director to give to new friends during their 2019 summer international tours and studies abroad. Friendly vendors, curious children, audience members, people on the streets, etc. were recorded and included in the fun. Scott Cook, BYU alumnus and professional videographer, edited the footage.
Each group performed dances from their respective disciplines, with the shirts on, in front of world-famous backdrops. IFDE is shown in China while Living Legends is seen at the world-famous Iguazu Falls. The Ballroom Dance Company sport the shirts in Blackpool, England and in front of the Eiffel Tower. Contemporary Dance Theatre dances in front of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate while Theatre Ballet is dancing on the Oregon Coast. The Contemporary Dance Study Abroad is shown hip hop dancing in Prague. BYU President Kevin Worthen, who accompanied several groups to China, makes a cameo as well.
The video was part of the 2019 World of Dance concert in September and the Dance Devotional in November. With copyright permissions in place, the Department of Dance is now free to spread the joy and fun of the international video.

Thanks to our amazing students and faculty who made time for this exciting project while they were travelling, teaching, performing, and experiencing dance all over the world.
These dancers are such a light to the world! It's a privilege to know them and work with them! And kudos to Scott Cook for pulling it all together and Curt Holman for envisioning such a cool collage of movement, humanity and joy!
