In my opinion it's not anymore. Pay to win grew too much and there is no way it going away. And the overall quality is going down too. Remember that todays NCSoft isn't the same NCSoft that made first versions of the game. Many wonderful minds had left this greedy and lazy developer. GameForge on EU side isn't helping as a publisher too (neither NCWest). For me this game was able to be as good as for example WoW, or GW2. However its potential has been broken many years ago. I have good memories with Aion, especially with friends I have met there, but due to its destructive impact on me I was forced to leave it for better games. TL;DR I can describe todays Aion like that: not rewarding, lack of content, full of RNG, items upgrading is too much wallet based, repetitive, bad quality and underdone. Believe me, I'm passionate gamer for many years and I can technically describe any aspects of any game. Peace.

To be honest Gunner and Aethertech are the least important problem for me. Assuming that they are any problem at all. I even liked these classes, even if I was maining dps Cleric, which made them very annoying for me sometimes.
I agree with you Isharoth when such masterpiece turns into pay to win It's not natural and fun anymore. I got many chars only getting them until 55,trying not to get pvp,because pve world is wonderful,the music,instances.
i started aion in 3.0, and this track was still in the game, until now (i dont play anymore though) but i have nostalgic memories from this, its still in the starting areas of elyos :) patches in MMOs only add and changed music to recent regions not the ones before that, usually all the content and areas from previous patches play their original music :D its like that in every mmo

This song is so beautiful... I had a hard time to find the name of this song. I found it by luck (I'm not very patient...:) in full OST torrent of 467 melodies of AION. It is not here on youtube under "Poeta" which is starting area of Elysea... (I didnt play this game ,only for half an hour, have no time for this now and it is seems it is semi-dead now... But in that halfhour i heard this song and it is the best song in the game (I listened to that full OST...) .
David Meishvili people complained of overbalance in pvp before gunners and bards ... so they added gunners and bards which could do everything, then people complained about those classes, so they added aethertech, which can kill anything.
Scott Willders i think gunners and aethertechs were added with influence of wow and other mmorpgs that are more popular then aion. I just miss medieval+magic+stunning sights ingame :(
4.0 wasn't bad. IMO this was one of the best f2p patches in Aion. The real destruction of this game started since 4.8. I can't play it anymore without complaining about p2w mechanics and quality-lacking content.
Maybe this is why this song is called "Sad World"... Because they knew we'll be sad when that time will fade away, with what they have done to the game... We trully lost something there.
Farkk i miss this game, i used to be the best crafter on my server. katalium longtooth weapons is the hardest crafting wepon, guess what. Im stacking that sht. 😢😢😢
we all agree fellow deavas that we missed the old aion online we played many years past.... we all laugh, sad, annoyed, mad and cried while playing this wonderful world.... but the devs ruin it.... wish the old time will be back.... well we can rebuild but as they say the scar still marks the old days will never come back...
My experience with this game was so bad to the point where I genuinely wondered why I even bothered to play beyond level 10. Was this game seriously any good? It is such a broken game riddled with P2W mechanics in every corner of the game.

I remember some consumable items that empower regular attacks sold in cash - one of the users told me that people carry a massive amount of such consumables for PVP. I too believe that running a guild with close friends can greatly enhance your gaming experience, but with P2W balance breaking mechanics built in everywhere of the game I found no merit in enjoying the game
