      Agree! I hate the fact that city pop was kind of a fase for kpop. I can see why it became annoying because of how overused it was, but for Yukika specifically it sounds very authentic, I can't imagine her making music in some other genre

    uk garage will definitely become popular because of pinkpantheress
    since korea is always 2 years late to every western trend, i predict pinkpantheress will eventually have a few clones starting this year!
    newjeans are the first to kinda tap into the sound with "super shy" & im sure they'll be credited in SK for discovering/popularizing "tHiS fReSh NeW sOunD" 🙄

    • @yesiamaisey
      @yesiamaisey ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Well as what I knew about it, an era including Y2K have so many bits of pieces that made it iconic and nostalgic either both fashion, music, pop culture, etc. that made the whole idea bigger and varied than what we already knew about it.
      It's just the fans were so pressed about it, but it's just fine for that concept not being "owned" by few artists regardless who did it first because any idea is wider and bigger than what we thought.
      It's a trend that may come from anywhere more than what we thought where it started probably influence from the west knowing companies also get services from foreign music producers.
      It's fresh to consider pointing out that producers choose to stick on genres like UK Garage Beat, lo-fi, drum & bass, etc. making it newer than the usual sound that we hear in the industry lately prior to this.
      Still the whole concept has many things to explore more than being "owned" by few artists. It's more of how fans see it and how mature they are to notice it.

      the first and second shinhwa albums as well as the fourth and fifth HOT albums are full of weird metal influence for anyone looking. there's nu metal songs, there's an industrial metal song in there, sometimes the song is completely normal and then there's guitar chugs and screaming out of nowhere. sometimes it's just a pop rap song on a really good fake Timbaland beat. they're really fun albums!

    I really hope there will be some more dreampop, heavy rock/almost metal (SM did such a good job years ago with Devil’s Cry by SNSD and Password by SHINee but Groups like Blitzers get me on my toes there) and trance influences in the future 🥲

    need more groups to do metal/rock since bands like deftones and radiohead are so popular with western youth it be cool for kpop groups to something in that route and they can easily use a y2k/grunge concept for that

    I would love to see more phonk in kpop. Lee Chaeyeon’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’ is kpop’s first venture into the genre and I really think it could be perfect for 4th gen. It lends well to the more dance focused approach of this generation and Chaeyeon’s song is a BOP. More phonk!

    With the rise of Jersey Club recently I feel like Atlanta Bass has a good shot at breaking out in kpop.
    Also if I had to pick a genre to be more popular in kpop i'd definitely pick psytrance lmao but it might be too jarring for the casual listener/general public

      atlanta bass is heavily inspired by miami bass so both could be influences on the songs I showed ! atlanta bass just tends to be a bit lighter and more fun (especially lyrically) so it's more fitting for kpop songs

    Aespa is probably the closest group to do hyperpop (but the aggressive side, not the barbie-ish sounding bubblegum bass music). ICONIC reminds me of Vroom Vroom by Charli XCX by its structure and some instruments

    • @joaquincollet4291
      @joaquincollet4291 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s not a single dream pop song in kpop, those were indie-pop. For reference cocteau twins are the epitome of dream pop. And loonatic is straight out pop, synthpop and alt pop, something that would fit perfectly into grime’s art angel.

    • @zebles200
      @zebles200 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joaquincollet4291 Sympathy by Shin Jimin is dream pop including the rest of her Boxes EP. Also To. You by Dreamcatcher has strong shoegaze influences so I think that counts too.

    • @kep1erplanet
      @kep1erplanet ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joaquincollet4291at's because cocteau twins literally invented and perfectioned the dream pop sound back when it wasn't even separated from shoegaze, loonatic is clearly not as classic dreampop and has many alt rock and upbeat pop elements to not make it to niche and weird for the audience not used to that kind of sound, but it indeed has a major dream pop feeling and elements such as dreamy vocals and synths, and obviously the distorted guitars (in the dreampop/shoegaze way) something you rarely find in other kpop songs and even within the other examples given, i think loonatic is the most representative song of this genre, alongside with borderline by sunmi in the shoegaze side

    2023 songs like: Le Sserafim - no return, GIDLE - paradise, IVE - kitsch. are exactly the type of kpop song i want to hear... vibey, not cringy
