    I started helping Mike out in 1986 when I was 16 years old. Helped lay the first 1000 feet of track.
    Moved back to Missouri recently. Lot's of changes and growth.

    How many hp..??
    Locomotive looks powerful..
    How much it can haul..?

  • @jamesdavis5096
    @jamesdavis5096 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    And now I have a couple more questions what is the total load and what is the capability of the engine in the system with the grades and everything so how much weight Could you actually pull or how many cars can you pull

    • @petro062
      @petro062  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stanleys engine is a little bit light for that load. That is a whole bucket of the loader.His engine has the power but it only weighs about 600. Mine can pull it but it slows down considerably being it has a 2 stage hydrolic log splitter pump and kicks down to high pressure/low volume.Traction is always the problem we have with a 8 HP Briggs engine. But we usually couple both our engines together when we pull a bug load.

  • @royreynolds108

    Where is this track located?
    There is too much load for the tractive effort from the locomotive--it would be better to remove one or two sections of that articulated car when hauling ballast.
    I hope the leaves are raked away before dumping ballast to avert ballast fouling and promote drainage.

      +Roy Reynolds Fordland Missouri. we meet twice a year for group runs. And sometimes we meet to work on the track. Look on google map 701 depot rd missouri 65652.

      I agree with the load weight. It's a rule of thumb to leave ~200 lbs between the locomotive's max pull weight and the train weight.

      I messed up the video of dumping the gravel. The doors open and the car unloads when you open the doors on the bottom. I messed that part up and I live 200 miles fr0om the track. So I couldn't do a retake.

    *writing early wish list* Dear Santa.... *slap face* back to reality!
    But are those gondolas or some sort of rotary hoppers?

    • @petro062
      @petro062  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +MoeJae86 No they have doors on the bottom to spread the gavel on the outside the Rails. The cars were old air duct sides that we put ends on and a bottom with doors. They were made to do just that. Get the gravel way back where the dump truck can't go. We use them for riding cars too. They are strong cars and they got breaks too.

    • @petro062
      @petro062  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MoeJae86 Most cities have a train group like this. They would love to have you join them. Even if you don't have a train. They always need people to help take care of the track. AND ride too.

    Vreat. Would like to see how you built the hopper cars. Thanks.

    • @petro062
      @petro062  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hopper cars were once a big air duct that rotated to aim the output air. They were causing a problem so we removed then and put covers over the holes. We could have made 10 of them but the last 5 were taken out many years later and the threw them out before we could get them. The sides are extruded aluminum and the rest we made. Long story But sometime I will make a video on them. We call them our gravel cars. But they are great riding cars when we put seats on them. They are 6 feet long and we got 6 scrap iron trucks with roller bearings.. We use theme every time we run.

    • @petro062
      @petro062  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Build everything from scrap metal on the cars. The sides were 6foot air ducts Track is made by extruders. Use CCA ties. 14 inches long split a 2x4 down the middle. Use sheet metal screws 1-1/4 long hex heads.
