This is quite frustrating for me. If only John had explained slightly more fully to Chesney - Charlotte got obsessed with him and stalked him and he went along with her delusions because he didn't want her to report him to the police for stealing Colin's identity....he doesn't even need to say anything about burying Colin's body or killing her. We know John put up resistance to Charlotte's insane idea at first. When the Hoyles uncovered John's true identity he could have explained how he messed up his teaching job the first time and then foolishly stole Colin's identity, that Charlotte knew about it and he went along with her delusions because he didn't want her to report him to the police for fraud - by keeping quiet and being defensive he got people to piece things together on their own which did not give them the full picture of exactly how things went anyway. Fiz saw how he was affected (insomnia, mental breakdown) and so did the Hoyles to some extent yet everyone's immediate reaction when the truth came out was that he must be evil/a monster but we know he wasn't.

@@98slbrookes98 Well in that case he would definetly be arrested and ultimately charged for disposing of a dead man's body and withholding information about where Colin was. There was no escape for him whatsoever.
@@Da1Dez Well it's better to be charged with that than to be charged with murder and manslaughter. I agree that he can't escape prison either way but he could soften the blow by confessing to the lesser crimes.

Except Colin's body would have been discovered by the builders eventually, how would he have explained that one away?
