there’s a common misconception with the spoon vs chopstick rice thing. at lot of times in those cultures that use chopsticks to eat rice it’s a different rice than most western countries eat. they tend to eat stickier rices so therefore it’s easy to use chopstick.
im middle eastern and we have only ever used spoons for rice. if you use a fork it's usually some sort of attempt to eat smaller portions/slower for health reasons & dieting
Something being “overrated” just means the quality of the person/thing is overblown due to groupthink. People will hop on the bandwagon to feel connection and belongingness to their peers, regardless of how they actually feel. Eventually the group’s ideas overshadow the individual’s cognitions and become what they think they believe. Human psychology is wild
@@MaryK15omg I thought you meant like as in hockey. The Stanley cup playoffs are right now and I was thinking that it’s pretty important for hockey fans lol😅

I think the issue with that is that this would inevitably make the food more expensive. I wouldn't have a problem with that, but a lot of people might just go somewhere else where the base price is cheaper. So the best solution would actually be a minimum wage, enforced by the state (or country). This way, restaurants that pay their emplyees a living wage wouldnt't be at a disatvantage.

Genuine advice for the foot fungus: I had one too for years and the thing that worked for me and finally got rid of it was tea tree oil and one of those exfoliating gloves. In the shower I would literally scrub the infected area until it was red raw and I had taken off all the flaky skin. And then I would put tea tree oil on after. Worked almost immediately.
I use a tea tree oil, almond oil and jojoba oil mix for my gauged ear, it helps with dryness, it's antifungal and antibacterial, and it helps with any smells, I wash my gauge regularly with unscented soap too, obviously different things, but tea tree oil is good for bacteria management in combination with good hygiene
i get upset at babies in like restaurants or movies (especially like rated r movies) because sometimes that just isnt a good baby environemnt. but sometimes babies need to fly and of course theyre going to cry because the change of pressure on their ears that they don't know what it is or why its happening. i imagine it would be terrifying
The baby section on planes idea is honestly a great idea. Like for the parents’ sake, it could be really nice and have like a diaper changing station, free diapers, it would be nice and private and new parents could meet other new parents and have a sense of solidarity since traveling with babies is really difficult. And it’s the best of both worlds.
Yeaaa and there should definitely not be like an extra premium cost for a baby/family section. Knowing airlines companies they’d take it as a cash grab opportunity
Okay but it should only be limited to like 2 rows, so 2 sets of parents. Babies scare each other awake with wailing all the time. So imagine if there’s 2 parents each with a baby and baby 1 needs to nap but baby 2 can’t stop crying bc it’s sick or something. Then parents 1 request the flight personnel to move the people with the crying baby to the other area but parents 2 don’t want to go bc they paid extra for the baby section seats/ bc they don’t want to move from where all the baby accessibility stuff is. Now let’s imagine there’s an entitled mom or father with a baby and a 2-year old, and this child can’t do anything other than watch Coco Melon on full volume. That’s gonna be a whole nother problem. I just doubt that a baby section will be a good idea
@@udontevenwannaknowbruv honestly that is such a good argument. Having baby only section would be so counter intuitive because now all babies are themselves disturbed and annoyed because of other babies and now we have a mixture of noises that will be a nightmare fuel for the parents lmfao (given that there are multiple parents with babies). The only good solution I feel is: Parents should be responsible while other passengers should just buy good headphones lol.

The New Yorker tip lady is a vibe. As an Aussie I really struggle to understand tip culture. It’s like making the everyday Joe pay employees when a company should just be paying them right in the first place.
I live in BC, where the waitresses get paid minimum wage which is $17.00 an hour. I don’t tip. It’s a minimum wage job and nobody else working minimum wage gets tips. Fuck tipping!
My thoughts as an american ,where servers can be legally paid $3/hr (bc they are "tip eligible"), is that most people hate tipping culture, but don't want to punish the server for the bad system
@Por2ugal I live in NB where the cost of living is probably half what it is in BC. Servers get minimum 15.50$. Waitress jobs are usually more 16-18$ AND we are all expected to still tip. Even on pickup orders now they ask for a tip. They put tips on the dairy queen drive thru machine by my place recently. Why are we tipping like Americans on top of paying a living wage?? It makes no sense.
Yea tbf you guys are takingn it a bit too far tho on the other habd. In germany we tip most of the times unless the aervice was shit and i think thats good. Especially smaller businesses couldnt make up for the tip that the customers leave. It doesnt hurt them but benefits the workers. US obv is different tho, the businesses are super greedy
It’s because they can pay less than minimum wage since tips “should cover the rest”. It’s bull and we all hate it. Granted, some days are good. I once took home 600$ in cash after a double at a lower-level restaurant, but I never got anywhere close to that again.
As a singer, I’ve literally always said the karaoke thing. Karaoke is literally a thing for friends to get together and let loose, not to show off. If you’re a singer and you really wanna sing that badly, that’s what open mic nights are for.
100%, all of my friends are singers and could sing professionally if they wanted to. They LOVE having karaoke nights and they refuse to see how intimidating it is for others 😂
Why can’t you guys do both? Let the singers friends belt, let the fun and loose friends have their fun too. There’s no wrong way to decide how to express yourself.
as a singer i only put on songs everyone knows so we can all sing them BADLY together, you can have both, being good at something shouldn’t stop you from having fun with friends :D
100% a lot of people think good singers have no middle grouns. But like you don't focus on your technique the same way when you're in a professional setting and when you're just vibing. Sure you'll sound better than most people even with low to mid efforts but no one forces you to try to kill it at every song. But then again, I do have fun trying to sing a song the best so I also get how that can happen even if it's not to show off but just cuz sounding good and trying to do fun stuff you know how to do can just be fun. I'd say assess the vibes lol, if you're in a group of musical theater nerds, it makes sense, if everyone's boozed up, hanging out on someone's birthday and slurring words, maybe not the time for it lol.

The old age thing depends SO much on your particular circumstances. Some people are unlucky, some just didn't take care of themselves well enough, but some are pretty well in their old age. My grandpa just turned 80 and he's doing great, he works out multiple times per week and hardly has any health issues. A great grandparent in law of mine passed away a few years ago at age 96 and she was doing great both physically and mentally up until the very end. Old age can definitely be good for some people!

@@tylerblalack6684 It's highly uncomfortable for the baby to fly though, especially with inattentive parents. YES they have a right to travel by plane, but that doesnt mean people arent allowed to feel a little annoyed with parents that 1. put their child in a very distressing situation (the pressure while flying is much harsher on the ears of a baby than on a grown-up's ears) when there isnt any urgent need for it (I understand people want to visit their family or there might be a funeral they need to attend and they have no babysitters available or something so in that case they have no other options) 2. Don't even try to soothe/comfort/parent their young child and just ignore their screams for hours on end.. Do you really not understand people FEELING a little annoyed towards those specific parents (which btw in 99% of cases doesnt even mean they will act upon their grievance, at most they will just throw a bothered look towards the ADULTS that arent doing anything to ease the pains for both their baby and other passengers) in those situations? lol I have definitely been annoyed AF, but never at the INFANT, always at the adults and i bet you the overwhelming majority of people who complain about baby's crying for hours on a plane feel the exact same.
Got to go to Japan recently and the lack of tipping culture combined with the exceptional customer service was wild. Hard to come back to the US after that.
People take pride in themselves and their work even at McDonalds in Japan. The US tends to have the extremes. Like, some people are memorably kind/funny/pleasant, while others act rude or annoyed the whole time.
Here's a crazy take : not speaking to one of your parents is not a red flag. I am not sure why some people consider it as one. I think it takes a lot of courage to cut off a toxic parent from your life,it should be celebrated. One of my best friends, has 2 young boys and her mom has been having drinking issues all of her life. When my friend was a kid,she suffered through emotional and some physical abuse when her mom would drink. She had a strained relationship with her but she tried to keep it. Last i heard, her mom grabbed her oldest son's arm and hurt him,he was so scared as well so she cut her off from her life. How can that be a red flag?
I've always been very nervous about this. I am so lucky to have a partner with a healthy family - I didn't think I'd get to experience that because I thought healthy families would see my unhealthy family as a red flag.
It definitely depends on the relationship between the parents and kid. I dated this guy who had a very stable family who fully paid for his college tuition, their connections got him his first job, bought his car, etc. And once he moved a state away, he made no effort whatsoever to call, pick up their calls, visit, or even reach out to say happy birthday. And we only lived 4 hours away. Should've realized earlier that the lack of effort in his familial relationships and lack of respect would be the same as how he approached our relationship.
in an ideal world this wouldn't be a crazy take. i feel like a lot of the people who see not speaking to a parent as a red flag seem to forget that not every parent is a good parent or they think that regardless of how bad a parent is their child should always stick by them and excuse the behavior. for that last part, they may have a toxic parent themselves but feel obligated to stay in contact with them because it was an idea ingrained into them that they shouldn't cut their parents out of their life no matter what (like they owe them). it's honestly sad and i hope more people will realize that some people's parents should not be kept in their lives
I think there’s a nuanced position to be had that understands there are certain situations where the parent was the toxic one in that relationship and also vice versa. I would say it’s an orange flag and would prompt me to investigate that more
Parents don't understand that their kids will grow up. They're authoritarian or almost dictator like and when kids grow up they expect kids to be grateful, kind and respectful.
I’ve lived in the US for 15 years, and the most astonishing thing about this country that I will never get over is how you managed to turn a pork product into a condiment. You treat bacon like ketchup. It’s… kinda great!

I read a New York Times article that said the turn around screens are ruining the restaurant industry and what we’re expected to pay is getting higher because of it. Inflation is being driven higher because of tipping and its at a 300% increase from the start of tipping.
CODY, you have to wash all of your clothes and bedding, any fabric that may come in contact with your feet, as well as flooring and tub/shower/shoes when being treated for foot fungus, it's super common to come back on the other foot because it can remain on surfaces for a while and then you get reinfected again. I don't suffer from it, but am a nurse, and it's super common.
my autism makes me sensitive to sudden sounds, but apart from that crying babies really isn’t that big of a deal. i’m more sympathetic than annoyed because man, that must suck to be responsible for the loud child 😭
same!! the sound bothers me but i feel empathetic to the parents, but also the baby who's also processing all the same noise that i am but they've never even been exposed to this stuff before
I think context is super important, a kid just having a kid moment and freaking out is fine but what’s super annoying is when the parent is just clearly not dealing with the situation and the kid is being loud as a result of their negligence

the baby /child on plane thing is mainly an issue when parents are doing nothing to try and stop their child doing a certain thing like talking loud and kicking your chair or having a fit
That is a lie, parents usually are trying their best but babies cry in the plane because of the air pressure and it hurts their ears, you can't do much to stop them, sometimes you just must suck it up when you use public spaces or travel with strangers. I don't have kids but i have cats and traveling can be hard, i can't imagine how hard are human babies, believe, the parents are to ones that are more tired and stressed out out of everyone in the plane.

As someone with autism and misophonia, a crying baby is sensory torture. If the parent is doing their best to pacify the child and they're still crying then I can understand that. It's the people who do nothing and let their kids screech for twelve hours that people have a problem with.
travelling on public transport or being in an airport with autism and severe misophonia/misokinesia is HELL. i need to wear noise cancelling headphones with ear-destroyingly loud white noise and shut my eyes the entire time. But a crying baby is no worse to me than the loud people talking and everyone breathing/moving/making any normal repetitive movement/sound. Everything is torture for me but I can't get mad at people for doing normal things. Keeping your children with you is definitely a normal thing but I 100% agree if there is no attempt to soothe the baby that is irritating. I envy the people without misophonia who will only be irritated by the baby 😢

Imagine you're born in November and for the first 6 months of your life you're stuck inside with mostly your immediate family and the days are so short compared to being born in May and the first half of your life is social, warm and outside with longer days.

Tipper here: I do tip, but I 100% agree that service workers should be paid a livable wage. THE MAN made us Americans feel like it's our obligation to pay the service workers the other half of their check bc THE MAN doesn't want to make his pockets less fat. So instead, it's keeping the poor poor-er, and we have this mental thing where we think it's "wrong" to not tip. What is wrong is that America doesn't know what a livable wage is. @@Random-sk6hm I do the same everywhere I travel. I see this crazy tipping trend mainly online in the US; thankfully, I haven't encountered a server or anyone hassling me for a tip.

tbh i can’t stand crying babies but i have sensory issues and i don’t blame the parents at all. i understand babies have to travel too. it’s just hell when they’re crying or screaming for hours and the parents don’t try to pacify them at all. that’s my only problem.
Babies cry on planes because the pressure pushes on their eardrums and causes a lot of pain. I try to remember that if I get annoyed. The poor little babies are in a lot of pain and have no other way of communicating. There is also very little that can be done to relieve this, so it's really nobody's fault.
It’s also important to remember sometimes no matter how much you try to pacify there’s only so much you can do in a foreign place with limited space. Babies are difficult regardless, but putting them in a new area is a whole other ball game
I used to fly a lot as a kid, i remember that shyt hurt real bad before i got used to it as i got older. It doesnt matter if you try to pacify them, they're in pain not just discomfort.
@@ilovenycsomuch Babies can’t “pop” their own ears yet the way we do by swallowing to relieve the pressure, once kids are old enough giving them gum or candy to expedite the process. But until they can handle that you could maybe give them milk or something to make them swallow, but there’s no guarantee it would alleviate the issue

No it doesn't. It's the equivalent of reading the Emperor's New Clothes and being like, "Well that kid who said the emperor has no clothes is clearly just dumb. If everyone else is talking about his amazing garments, they must have a reason for doing so."
Nah you're real as fuck for saying there's no such thing as "being overrated." I've started to say this myself recently, as much as it pains me to do so, cuz sometimes I do get mad when stuff I think is mediocre gets really popular rather than things I think deserve the spotlight, but that's kind of just how most of reality works. Music can't be good or bad, it can just be popular or unpopular.
The only case of overrated is when people buy likes, if the attention is genuine not bought, it's just rated, no matter how much you disagree, I dont wanna look down on another's taste because i don't like it, art is so subjective
Honestly I didn’t understand why people didn’t like babies on a plane until there was a screaming baby on my flight to Australia for 11 hours. Then I understood a little bit more.
As someone who had babies I've never taken mine on a plane. They can't pop their ears and it's painful so they scream and Id never subject the world to listen to my screaming child reverberate in an echo chamber where no one can escape the premises 🤣🤣

Here’s a hot take. The tipping waiters thing is true, customers who are already paying for the food, shouldn’t be expected to pay half the waiter’s wages. I feel bad that they get paid next to nothing, but it’s not the customers fault, it’s their bosses. Also I might be biased because I am English, and tipping here is way more optional because the waiters get payed actual wages. Basically my hot take is that america has a weird tipping culture, and I think waiting staff should be payed proper wages.

I think the issue with that is that this would inevitably make the food more expensive. I wouldn't have a problem with that, but a lot of people might just go somewhere else where the base price is cheaper. Genuine advice for the foot fungus:
I had one too for years and the thing that worked for me and finally got rid of it was tea tree oil and one of those exfoliating gloves.
In the shower I would literally scrub the infected area until it was red raw and I had taken off all the flaky skin. And then I would put tea tree oil on after. Worked almost immediately.
If a doctor told me to do this, id go to a different doctor.
TH-cam comment telling me this, I assume it would kill me.
Tea tree oil is antibacterial. It's not a cure all, but can help in some cases!
Vinegar soaks can help too depending on whatcha got
i get upset at babies in like restaurants or movies (especially like rated r movies) because sometimes that just isnt a good baby environemnt. but sometimes babies need to fly and of course theyre going to cry because the change of pressure on their ears that they don't know what it is or why its happening. i imagine it would be terrifying
@@molly.a12059xx ugh true. but in a perfect world it wouldn't cost any extra :')

I once took home 600$ in cash after a double at a lower-level restaurant, but I never got anywhere close to that again.

as a singer i only put on songs everyone knows so we can all sing them BADLY together, you can have both, being good at something shouldn’t stop you from having fun with friends :D
if u hear someone being good at singing at a karaoke night and you get mad that’s a you thing lol.

Overrated = conflating a whole fucking bunch of quantity with quality. 100,000,000 fans doesn’t make it quality, but it’s definitely confused as such.

I read a New York Times article that said the turn around screens are ruining the restaurant industry and what we’re expected to pay is getting higher because of it. Inflation is being driven higher because of tipping and its at a 300% increase from the start of tipping.
CODY, you have to wash all of your clothes and bedding, any fabric that may come in contact with your feet, as well as flooring and tub/shower/shoes when being treated for foot fungus, it's super common to come back on the other foot because it can remain on surfaces for a while and then you get reinfected again. the baby /child on plane thing is mainly an issue when parents are doing nothing to try and stop their child doing a certain thing like talking loud and kicking your chair or having a fit
@@anna.owo. i didn’t claim anything - i’m speaking more about older kids that are clearly conscious bc that’s what i’ve had more bad experiences with. either way you can tell if a parent is trying to soothe a child or make it behave and when they aren’t. parents who bring their kids on planes to watch coco melon videos without headphones and jus let them talk loudly have no excuse whatsoever. i know that young babies cry, they aren’t the worst ones anyway.

As someone with autism and misophonia, a crying baby is sensory torture. If the parent is doing their best to pacify the child and they're still crying then I can understand that. It's the people who do nothing and let their kids screech for twelve hours that people have a problem with.
As someone who has both, I completely agree
I also have both 😭
Same boat here, I live and breathe my earplugs and noise canceling headphones
travelling on public transport or being in an airport with autism and severe misophonia/misokinesia is HELL. i need to wear noise cancelling headphones with ear-destroyingly loud white noise and shut my eyes the entire time. But a crying baby is no worse to me than the loud people talking and everyone breathing/moving/making any normal repetitive movement/sound. Everything is torture for me but I can't get mad at people for doing normal things.
Most other countries don't tip, and in fact, Australians find it to be super fkn rude bc it's like saying you have more money than the server. Different cultures, am i right?
Brit here and we only tip for exceptional service. Workers are paid a liveable wage
Yeah the person who owns the business should be paying THEIR employee’s salaries not me. The concept is ridiculous to me.
@@Random-sk6hm I do the same everywhere I travel. I see this crazy tipping trend mainly online in the US; thankfully, I haven't encountered a server or anyone hassling me for a tip.
@@MaryK15it’s not a trend. it’s an entire system that has been built into the service industry for decades. not only is it an incentive for people to work such a low paying job where they have to deal with a ton of people at the hangriest moments of their lives, but it’s also how the bartender, hostesses, food runners, and kitchen staff are all paid as well. if you stop tipping to “stick it to the man” you are only doing it at the detriment of your server who now owes money from your table. yes, if you aren’t tipping, you are taking money out of your servers pocket so they can cover the tip out for the bartender who made your drinks, the cooks who made your food and the food runner who brought it to your table. i would love to paid a liveable wage so i don’t have to rely on people but unless you’re fixing the entire system, you are only going to be boycotting at the detriment of a server who probably doesn’t have the experience to work anywhere else. good job!
