Hi David, Great to see you streaming more now I have a question for you. I live in the UK and just learning the tricks of the trade. I have some 12" vinyl records and cd's I wish to frame. What is the best solution for holding the records/cd's to the foam/mat board? They are collector's edition Picture discs so needs to be achievable, Thank you in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Gavin

Thanks Signed Inc autographs for your question.
There are several solutions to fixing records and CDs etc and the chosen method may depend on the overall frame design.
For example if you are just displaying a single record or disc surrounded by matting you can cut a reverse bevel circular mat where the opening is 1mm smaller in diameter than the disc itself and then the reverse bevel edge only just overlaps the edge of the disc and you then sandwich the disc between the reverse bevel opening and a regular flat mat backing board. You can then cut other openings around the outside of this. Most people would not realise the cd or record is inset and held by the small reverse bevel. You can experiment with the required overlap especially if you have a CMC matcutter.
You can always use a physical fixing for records through the central hole. There are some good black split pin type fixings both plastic and metal varieties - office supplies - that work well in this instance.
You can use other physical clips like the mighty mounts variety which also work with plates, ceramics, coins etc.
You can also try Mylar - polyester sheet - as an overlay held down onto a backing and covered by a matting. Bank notes, collectors cards, postage stamps, documents etc are often mounted this way.
If you have to use an adhesive in contact with the vinyl you could try a neutral cure silicone type. Usually silicone will not harm the item but the only way to remove is peeling the silicone off at a later stage so I prefer using physical fixing or the reverse mat overlay as a 1st preference because then there is an easy pathway for removal if needed.
      Best regards,

@@Endurart Thank You for the reply David, your advice is top notch as usual. This has given me some great tips I like the split pin idea so might go with that.
Although sandwiching the item between the bevels is a great idea a swell, I unfortunately don't have a CMC Matcutter, I use the Logan 350-1 Compact Elite and the Logan 201 Oval/Circle cutter i can still play around using these great machines.
I will soon be signing up to the framers club members area as I love your work and your knowledge is so helpful.
      Thanks again,
      Kind Regards
      Gavin
