    The news in 2013 by Panasonic that they won't be making any more Plasma TVs was and still is probably one of the saddest tech news ever.

      I have a very low hour GT50 and ST60 as well as a F8500 with 11,000 hours which is still very low hour usage. This year I tried to move to OLED, I tried and returned 3 of them. What most people don't realize is when you transition to OLED from plasma you are actually transitioning to a dimmer image on average. This is because HDR has a lower average luminosity than SDR. Watch the same content on your plasma and OLED and it will look substantially brighter on the plasma. This is counterintuitive but true, SDR is much brighter and more lively than HDR. You miss out on the high hit specular highlights but that is only a tiny percentage of HDR content. I can to discover that SDR on high end plasma looks far better than HDR on OLED and this is for a lot of reasons. I am no longer looking to upgrade!

      The st60 is actually better than the zt. It has higher peak brightness and less aggressive anti-glare filter so it has more vibrant colors. I'd take your st60 over any OLED.

    So sad that Plasma is dying .. I went with LCD over plasma because it was lighter, brighter, arguably longer lasting, not prone to burn in, uses less power, puts out less heat, etc. etc... Now I feel like I will be forever missing out on that superior picture quality!! Those vibrant and life-like colors, those inky blacks!!!! :' (

      Wrong wrong wrong... OLED is the future but not yet.. No they don't have superior colours.. Not yet! The best plasma's are still the best tv's. I'm not biased I own a 60in KURO.. The 65VT65B and owned a LG OLED.. OLED isn't ready yet.

      bliglum Plasma haven't had issues with Burn in for years. What you are talking about is ' Image retention" which goes away rather quickly, and the High end models like this Panasonic had technology in it to combat the image retention thing , though it is still susceptible to it though. Everything else is correct though, uses more energy, heavier, half life at 100,000 hours ( which is around 20 years watching it 8 hour a day!!)
      All that and Plasma still has far superior picture quality over LCD. I couldn't imaging owning a LCD TV.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      tom11zz884 It was the heat that was the killer for me.. As I was looking for a screen to put in my mancave (spare bedroom), and having a large plasma in there acting like a space heater made it a no-go.. Especially because I live in a warm climate.

    • @Underhills
      @Underhills 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** They still havent managed to fix the lagging or drag when the image is moving, and lets face it, in tv and movie images pan and move all the time, so that's a huge downside. Whenever I see TV reviews they always focus on resolution, very rarely on image quality. The resolution hysteria is just ridiculous. Even the best TVs has pixel noise, lag and all sorts of different artifacts like pixel swarms (when pixels looks crushed in sections of the image) and more problems. I just don't get the hype. I mean seriously, if you exclude the high resolution aspect we are better off watching a good CRT monitor! They still use Sonys Trinitron CRT monitors as reference in professional studio environments. I've watched those myself, the very deep 14" reference CRTs are superior in terms of image quality. Cause HD is not enough to create a well balanced pleasant image.

    I love my Panasonic VT60 to death and I believe that it's the best television that I have ever laid eyes on. With that said, the Kuro is still an extremely close second. Unless you've actually seen a pro calibrated Kuro, you can't say that it's over. Yes they are as common as a 3 dollar bill, but they are true gems if you do get your hands on one. I'll take a Kuro over any other tv (aside from the VT and ZT) anyday.

      Plasma is indeed better than OLED. SDR has a higher average luminosity level than HDR so content on plasma will surprisingly be much brighter than it is on OLED most of the time. Also noble gases ablaze on fire put out a much better quality of light than tiny led light bulbs. Plasma colors are rich warm and lush. OLED color is thin , artificial and hash. They are LCD TVs with perfect blacks. I really can't understand how previous high end plasma owners can be happy with OLED.

      Both the ZT and the VT just equal the black level of the 60" stock 9G Kuros of .001. They do not surpass the 9.5Gs MLL of .0005 stock. However if one were to get a tweaked Kuro, then both the 9Gs and 9.5Gs can go to around .0001 MLL.

    The argument of ZT60 vs KURO is natural but completely academic at this point, both panels are literally “the best” with plusses and minuses with each of them. It’s likely the ZT is technically and visually better because of advancements in technology that it has over the KURO. FYI - For anyone who has a ZT and is experiencing excessive fan noise -Panasonic has issued a free in home fan noise fix, call 1-800-211-PANA (7262) for assistance.

    Pioneer was losing money in making the Kuro's. Their business plan was to make money by sales or/and demand alone. When it didn't work they had to close shop. The tech on the Kuro's alone should have made them twice the price. The real Panasonic equal is their professional monitors that are sold at a very hefty price tag. For those who are lucky enough to own one you are the boss. Coming from a former Pioneer employee.
