The pyramids are old but if you are looking for something that really boggles the mind then look at the buildings uncovered at Karahan Tepe in Anatolia, they are at least 12,000 years old, 7000 years older than the pyramids. The carvings on the 5 metere high, 10 ton, T-shaped roofing pillars are so old as to pre-date the discovery of agriculture!!!!!!!

@Carl Lewis Who knows if Arabic as a language was found at ancient Egyptian times or not? I have no clue rather than Arabic language was spread because it is the language of our religion which is Quran. Even earlier Jewish Egyptians in Egypt were talking Arabic not Hebrew as example. We are not Arabs because of the spoken language. We are Egyptians because of the land that feeds us every day! We appreciate our ancestors beliefs not because of the controversial to our faith, but because of the pleasure to compare how they were and what our beliefs now are to worship one God. Language is not the issue here. And realistically majority of Egyptians are not Arabs! We are Turkish who used to speak and write Arabic because we are muslims ! So, Arabic as a language was spread because of many people returned to Islam as a religion after era of darkness !!

I am going to really enjoy this series. If ancient Egypt fascinates you then I have a tip for you. Rent or buy Assassin's Creed Origins as it has a historical mode that allows you to not only visit many locations of ancient Egypt but it also has 60 narrated historical tours that cover a wide range of interests. The game is set during the time of Cleopatra and beautifully recreates ancient Egypt. Not everything presented is historically accurate as some accommodations had to be made for game play and some architecture had to be guess at such as The Library of Alexandria but none the less the recreation is stunning. With that said the creators went to amazing lengths to preserve historical accuracy. It is an amazing opportunity to roam around ancient Egypt and take in the sights. You can even run around as Cleopatra if you like!
If you want to save some money, and/or don't want to engage with the murderous M-rated gameplay of the main game (which is quite fun btw), the Discovery Tour is available as a separate purchase on PC for 20 bucks. While it is included for free in the full game, 20 dollars might be well worth it for educational purposes, or for exploring with kids. I think it'd be a dream for a curious kid to be set loose among the pyramids, get to go INSIDE THEM, and along the way, learn their history and how they were each built... then you can go beyond that! Don't be put off by the violent reputation of the series, this truly is fun for the whole family. There's even controversial aspects related to that, as some nudity in ancient art has been censored out! Nary a stone nipple to be ogled.
I'll only play it if the racial make up of Ancient Egypt is accurate (Black and Brown Africans). We have let things slide for too long in the name of entertainment

As an Egyptian, Ancient egypt was Never black, egyptians are the people living in Egypt right now. Further major waves of immigration came when the country was ruled by the Greeks and Romans, and then, again, after the Arab and Ottoman invasions in the 7th and 16th centuries. However, the core of the farming population, particularly in southern Egypt and among communities that remained Christian the longest, seems to have been relatively unaffected by these incomers. Thus a significant proportion of the present population are indeed descended from the builders of the pyramids and temples of ancient Egypt.

She’s a great communicator and it makes a refreshing change to have a presenter with a different accent than a middle class English one. It might have been nice though to have given some insight into how Egypt developed alongside other Near Eastern civilisations of the time.
Ancient Egyptians seemed very warm, calm and contented with what they had and they seemed so proud and built some gigantic monuments. It's like they knew it all.
"The Great Pyramid, the final resting place of Khufu..." Only problem with that romanticized story is, no body of ANY Pharaoh Khufu or anyone else was ever found to lie in state inside any of the pyramids. Plenty of the royal families and others were found in the "Valley of the Kings," and other locations. But no bodies in the pyramids was found. THAT lends to the premise that the pyramids were NOT tombs for dead kings or queens.
Come on man, they had to scrape pretty low to get this dish. Have mercy for the dead, or soon dying, history most egyptologists have been telling for centuries.
The pyramid of Khufu was surrounded by an entire mortuary complex. The problem with looking at the pyramid as a singular construction is that it takes this awesome monument out of the context in which it was created. Yes, there was no mummy discovered inside the Pyramid of Khufu but then the example of the Valley of the Kings which you site has problems as well. Only Amunhotep II was discovered inside his own coffin in his own tomb. Most of the royal mummies were discovered in caches were they were secreted by later dynasties having the knowledge that the tombs had been plundered. I recommend familiarizing yourself with the work of Dr. Mark Lehner, the foremost expert on the Giza plateau. If you view the Great Pyramid with an understanding of the cultural milieu in which it was created and within the context of its physical environment, it's difficult to see it as anything other than a funerary complex.

The earliest gold mining in the world is from the Balkans. They started mining gold 1600 years before Egypt even existed. Some extremely olde civilizations are from the Balkans. Earlier than even Sumeria.
@BekGrou PRIMUS I wouldn’t call them civilizations they are more cultures like the halaf culture or the yanma culture

And you can impale people on a pike...Vlad style!
Wowwww I did t know about this. Guess I'll be getting that game.

I'll only play it if the racial make up of Ancient Egypt is accurate (Black and Brown Africans). We have let things slide for too long in the name of entertainment

Ancient Egypt has always fascinated Me, and not just because I was Queen; We do love Joann Fletcher though!
I absolutely love this host... She's the best I've seen in many years.
Ive been rewatching this and god I love how excited she is about historyyyyyy
In Egypt ,the people are still maintaining ancient pyramid. ..I admire their nature and help.
Ancient Egyptians seemed very warm, calm and contented with what they had and they seemed so proud and built some gigantic monuments. It's like they knew it all.
Yes! Esp the beating the conquered king’s brains to a pulp part….
DRAGON BALL Z GT.
All is conjecture.

I swear, I'm madly in love with Dr. Fletcher
Joann you will probably never read this but you are such an inspiration!! I wish I could meet you!
Her passion is so evident in her voice! Great work!
Every time I see Djoser’s complex, I can’t help but see the bases for Ancient Greek architecture, and especially Doric.
Very true but you don't see that in historical architecture books. Winners write history.
Do you mean basis? Huge difference.
19,000 year old rock carvings. Incredible to think how far before recorded history that is.
Like yeah, how will modern graffiti be interpreted by future archeologists?
