Nando is my hero even though he says he does not want to be thought of as a hero. ! I read "Alive" right after it was published in the 70s, and it became one of my favorite books ever. Imagine my shock when I realized he was on the cruise my husband and I took during the winter holidays in 2018/19 and that he was a featured speaker. I was crazed with excitement, could barely believe I was going to see him. The auditorium was filled, and many of us were crying. I was thrilled to meet him afterwards and exchange an email with him which graces the wall of my home office as I type. He is an exceptional human being I also read Miracle in the Andes and so look forward to the Netflix production. I will never forget one of his lines during his presentation: "Luck is everything." I applaud his humility and philosophy of life. The whole world should hear what he has to say.
Hello Marlene. As a south american, I am widely aware of what happened. Always has been one of my favorite stories of human will and mentality. I am now proposing the event to my University, so for me is a very interesting thing to learn that people from all around the world also cherished Nando, Canessa, and the others that also deserved recognition. Could you please tell me how many people were in the auditorium when you went to see Nando?
Whether Nando wants to know it or not, he is a hero. What he and Roberto did is something not very many have done. I am in awe of him and the other men who came down off that mountain. If he reads this I wanted to say to him, you are one of the spirit guides of my life. Whenever I feel I can't take anything more in my life, I think of what you and the others went through and then I can face whatever I can. You are indeed a special person. Thank you for surviving and allowing me to get to know of you. It has been a pleasure dear sir. Sending love and light to you, your family, to Roberto, Pedro, Eduardo, Fito, Carlitos, Ray, Daniel, Bobby, Alvaro, Moncho, Antonio, Gustavo, and to Javier and Coche. Como española que soy tengo que hacer matizaciones sobre el significado que se le dá actualmente al hecho de ser latino. Hay mucho desconocimiento e incultura general sobre la Historia de Europa y de América. Ser latino abarca muchas culturas diferentes, aunque provengan de la misma cultura ancestral, el Lacio. Los países latinos son los que proceden de la cultura e idiomas latinos, es decir, los países latinos europeos como Italia, Rumanía, Portugal, Francia y España. Y los demás países latinos son los iberoamericanos porque fueron conquistados por los españoles (todos los países con nombre español) y por los portugueses (Brasil). Y Guinea Ecuatorial que es un país africano que también fue conquistado por los españoles y su idioma es el español. Las islas Filipinas también fueron españolas y su idioma era el español hasta hace relativamente poco tiempo (cuando los ingleses llegaron allí y prohibieron el idioma español y lo sustituyeron por el inglés). De paso debo decir que me he enterado hace poco de que en Estados Unidos se inventaron una etnia española o hispana, cosa absurda y sin sentido😂 porque España es caucásica igual que el resto de Europa, es la misma raza blanca que todos los países del sur de Europa. Así que deberían inventar también la etnia francesa, portuguesa, italiana, rumana. Los americanos están muy equivocados en la historia de su continente, porque no les enseñaron la historia real, les mintieron. Y sus libros de textos mienten en todo lo que respecta a los españoles. Una lástima que no quieran, ni se interesen por conocer la verdadera historia, que está documentada desde 1492 con documentación original de aquella época. Los españoles conocemos nuestro legado y estamos orgullosos de haber sido los primeros en el mundo en casarse y tener descendientes con indígenas americanos. El mestizaje empezó allí, en América, cuando nuestros antepasados respetaron los derechos de los indígenas y se mezclaron con ellos. España fue el primer país del mundo que permitió por ley el matrimonio entre razas en el año 1514. Fue el imperio más extenso y más poderoso del mundo durante varios siglos.
