  • Today I demo a slip trailing and combing decoration that developed and evolved over a number of years. The question today, is it technique or is it a trick? Is one looked up to and more respected? Comment, subscribe and stop back to see the pots put together.

A technique and a trick! If it was a painting... and it sort of is... it would be "Impressionistic." I do like the discipline of applying the slips neatly and deliberately and then the free impulsiveness of the wild swipes through it. That's the 'trick!' The result is outstanding!

Just re-watching some of your videos. Now that I have some tomatoes and pepper I will make the sakshuka. My videos often have a bit of food and garden in them as do yours. Today I took extra time to show a technique I've not seen others use.

@@thepotterskitchen1996 Other than a little fruit I've bought no produce since April it's all been from the garden. Yes was finally able to make the sakshuka, not as good as I imagine yours. It has a strong food memories for me, first having it in Israel it takes me back to a time and place. It was one of lives big adventures for me building an adobe sculpture at an art festival there and getting a sense of the region as Palestine as too. Your cooking seems to come from around the Mediterranean, the Levant and Southern Asia, all places I would travel if I could, so I do it through the food.

Summer fun finished, pottery room is set up (we have seven wheels) but they are saying only two people at a time can be in the room, social distancing you know. I do have my wheel on back lanai, but have to bring my large fan outside or the mosquitoes get me☹️

Nice to have your own wheel. Limited access, for me it shows canceled. Decided to put more time into the pots and try faceting or what's that other stuff called. Pittsburg, no mosquitos here in the winter. Aloha.

Nothing wrong with your truck's springs then Geff, one of those would flatten my car.Your spoiled for choice with all that clay, the Hazelnut is a lovely colour even unglazed. Great forms as usual and I really like the slip decoration, I wonder if it would still look the same on a cylinder and then expanded? I have been playing around with that technique using Sodium Silicate recently. looking forward to seeing these pieces glazed, thanks.

Thanks Freddie. Good luck with the slip trail bottles. It came back to me pretty good but I may have made it look easier than it really is.

Always enjoy your creativity. Are class fires at cone 5, would there be much difference going to 6. I like that little jug with the lid that is too small.🌺🌺🌺

Most of the clays and glazes I use are 5-6, the range a good ting if you kiln dose not fire even.

CJ Happy to have revived the skills and be able to make a big jar and have the lid fit. When it came to decorating I first thought how? Then can I still do it and how did I do it? Then won't this trick of a technique be fun to share. Thanks for liking, glad to know you've been watching.
