    I live in the deep south - Mobile, AL - and I bought my house about 5 years ago. The previous homeowner didn't do me any favors, and I've struggled to try to keep weeds (75-85% weeds at this point!) from overtaking what little grass was already there. I'm finally at the point where I can't take it anymore! I'm going to kill off the front yard and start over! I live in a cul-de-sac, so my front yard is only about the size of the area you did in this series. I'll worry about the back yard next year - it's about 4 times the size! My soil is very sandy, and even though I don't have any trees in my yard, I am surrounded by them, so the East side along the driveway stays shaded until almost mid day. From mid day to late afternoon it's full-on sun! Thanks for making these videos! I now have an idea of what I need to do and how to go about getting it done. I might need to contact SeedSuperStore for the best seed option for me. Thanks again. Peace and love.

    Love that tenacity on crabgrass, I use it as a post emergent and I’ve seen it absolutely mess up later tiller staged crab grass. My older neighbor can’t thank me enough for what I did to his outbreak. He thought it didn’t work and was very skeptical about it because it took about two weeks, but boy is it a thorough kill. Unfortunately if you have a fescue lawn it is very hard on it, says the fescue will bounce back but in my experience some of it doesn’t, I’ve been actually using it on regular tall fescue outbreaks in my lawn and it does a number on that as well.

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very interesting. I'm going to try it on my tall fescue patches in the backyard and see if I can get rid of them. The instructions mentioned fine fescue where it can cause damage but not as much tall.

    • @jaimz11
      @jaimz11 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomaslocke38 the pythium blight can slow when th weather cools and humidity drops. High salinity and nitrogen, along with poor drainage and extended periods of rain can make it come on strong.

    Ryan, I suggest you try out Pete's nozzle from CGI. It does two things over the standard fan tip nozzles that come with these types of sprayers: 1) offers a wider spraying width (7-8ft wide) & 2) doubles the output. So normally a 4-gal backpack covers 4,000 sq. ft., Pete's nozzle allows a 4-gal sprayer to cover 8,000 sq. ft. No need to refill it. Nice feature.

    Love the cloning thing, but I agree with you with the darn fungus that has been tormenting us all this season. High humidity and rain, too often, too much. I've used the Scott's disease EX and it works pretty well to contain it, but it seems to come right back after 30 days, so I've put it down 3x, and now that it's the end of the season, and more conditions that have been favorable, I'm hoping the Eagle spray of class 3 fungicide will help contain it for the rest of the season. Grubs suck too!!! New lawn looks pretty good, but man that snowy, moldy fungus looks horrible.

    You are officially a serial killer this fall and I'm loving it. Out with the old, bring in the new. Unlike KBG, PRG jumps up and you still have tons of time for a reno. I still haven't touched my Chapin since getting the sprayers plus. But check out the nozzle from Pete over at gci turf. It's not cheap, and he's pretty secretive about it until you buy it, but for broadcast apps it saves a ton of time. 8 foot passes really cuts down on the amount of back fourth while walking at leisurely pace.

    Ryan knorr! Did you know both Bayer and Scotts changed their fungicides this year? Scott's to azoxystrobin and bayer to propiconazole. I've been buying headway from seed world USA and paying shipping and suddenly Scotts and Bayer together make headway. It's like that peanut butter cup commercial where "bam" the two run into each other and make a great hew product! I'm sure you've seen Matt and probably Pete using a combo of class 3 and 11 to make a home rolled version Headway. We actually have Scotts dumping their old formula and now using azoxystrobin! Couldn't believe it myself. And, it got better, Bayer was using something else and changed to propiconazole! Who would believe? Seed world was my go to for heritage g and headway but two miles away is lowes and wow! July August and September will never be the same for me again. And more affordable. I know spraying azoxystrobin is better than the granular but have you priced azoxystrobin lately? $hit!

    • @brianschmitz6188
      @brianschmitz6188 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can say that the Scott's Azoxy blend seems to work pretty well, but it takes a good 3 bags per 10-12k and it lasts for 30 days, but needed to apply 3 times this year, so it's super expensive and frustrating. Spraying 2%, class 3 prop, doesn't seem to be enough, so that's a waste of money. I've put down the Eagle class 3 and hopefully it sustains me for the rest of the season, which has been ridiculous with the rain and humidity. I don't recall it being this humid all the time, like the whole year. Grass is constantly wet and damp.

    • @maltedbarley1
      @maltedbarley1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Schmitz I agree with you. If you apply azoxystrobin and propiconazole together at preventive rates you can save money and get synergistic effects from applying them together basically making a curative product. But you're right on for my neck of the woods I start in July and apply three apps thru sept. Funny I always have the myclobutanil on hand as a booster too

    Hey Ryan..could desperately use your help! I killed and seeded my entire lawn the last weekend of September (I'm in Tennessee). I used tenacity at time of seeding..but I had some severely contaminated topsoil and weeds now growing strong in the yard (creeping charlie or buttercup it looks like). I added some more seed to struggling spots just last week. My question is...when can I mow and when is it safe to treat these weeds? If I wait until it's been mowed a couple times and all grown in..will it be too late in the season to spray? I've heard that the buttercup can be aggressive even though winter and I don't want it taking over more than it already has.

  • @TheTdprice51
    @TheTdprice51 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Ryan, do you have a recommended "schedule" or maintenance plan when it comes to how often you should spray Tenacity to have a weed-free lawn? My lawn is right next to a huge open field full of weeds, and my neighbors yards are full of weeds as well. So I assume weed seeds will spread to my lawn in full force maybe year round.

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I have yards around me that are completely untreated and completely unfertilized and so the weed pressure is high. I rarely have to use weed killers and I just focus on the proper things to get the grass thick enough to crowd out everything else. Otherwise with tenacity I don't know of a specific schedule.

I am hoping that using my new Greenworks dethatcher like yours will bring up the dead grass and thatch which maybe causing the growing mushrooms??? I am waiting for the go ahead in Milwaukee to dump yard waste in curbs for City Fall pickup along with leaves. Like you, I plan on using the Greenworks dethatcher in Fall and Spring from now on.

      The mushrooms should go away but it could be a little bit of extra thatch that is holding moisture there for them to grow. I find them in my yard when things are very wet but they usually go away rather quickly when it dries up a little bit.

      I'm in MKE area too, and I've had fungus and saw some mushrooms earlier this season. You've got fungus. Not surprising with the crazy rainy, humid weather we've had this year. I know you asked Ryan, but I would go with a propiconazole 14.3 spray(online), which is a class 3. It's much stronger than the Bayer fungicide spray, which is only like 2%. Or, you could try the Scott's Disease Ex, active ingredient, class 11, azoxystrobin. I found bags of it at Meijer's for like $17. You could try Heritage G(online). Best to do both, if possible, but I think since we're at end of season, one dose of either should temper it, and go preventive next season. :-)

    Nice job Ryan. I see those exact crab grass sprouts In my killed off and reseeded area. I did not use tenacity. Clearly should have. It’s not terrible but it bothers me lol. Is the granular fungus control ok to use if I seeded sept 8th?? It hasn’t all fully germinated yet. Thanks again

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on how bad the fungus is at this point. My yard is pretty much fully germinated so I decided to go for it but I'm not sure if I were still waiting on full germination.

      @@ryanknorrlawncareThanks for your reply. I live in Pennsylvania and our soil is typically low pH so annual liming is routine. But peat moss is acidic, so when it's used to plant seed should additional lime be added or is the amount not significant enough to impact the seed and new grass?

    This fellow lawn enthusiast did a pretty cool setup to test the spray distribution of his fan tip sprayer:
    th-cam.com/video/_umpDUDcGXc/w-d-xo.html
    You could probably re-create it with yours and then you know how far to overlap each pass to make up for the tapering off at the outside of the fan.
