- Join us on our Rocky Mountains road trip! We spent this summer exploring the Province of Alberta and one of the highlights was our trip to Waterton Lakes National Park.
Waterton Lakes is a national park in southwestern Alberta, and it borders Glacier National Park in Montana, United States. This park is where the prairies meet the Rockies and it's honestly one of the most beautiful parks we've ever been to. Waterton Lakes is home to forested mountains, turquoise lakes, cascading waterfalls, crystalline streams, and some incredibly scenic trails. It was the fourth national park to be formed in Canada in 1895.
We only had 2 days in Waterton Lakes National Park, so in this video, we'll take you to Driftwood Beach, Red Rock Canyon, Blackiston Falls, the Prince of Wales Hotel for afternoon tea, we'll explore the town of Waterton, and we'll also visit a bison paddock just outside the park.
Our visit gave us a little taste of what this park has to offer, and we cannot wait to come back and do some more hiking here in the Rocky Mountains! This place is a slice of paradise.

I've been there a few times, including just after the devastating fires that hit Waterton & Glacier National Park in Montana. It was a miracle that the Prince of Wales Hotel was unscathed. If you want a wild contrasting experience visit Waterton again in mid October-mid November. The Hotel will be closed, but you can still drive up and park there. The winds at that time are beyond fierce - the car was shaking just sitting there. As I was leaving a family van pulled up, and as soon as the first kid got out of the vehicle his hat became a flying object never to be seen again.
So enjoyed watching this video. Looks beautiful.

Beatiful hike, guys. Magnificent sceneries. Guys, you're really really near to Glacier National Park in Montana. It's an incredible place to visit, especially the Swiftcurrent Lake wich has breathtaking scenery and the gorgeous Many Glacier Hotel entirely made in timber, very similar to the one you stayed in in Waterton.
Beautiful place. Dog really seemed to be enjoying himself.

Sophie loves Togo and got so excited when she’d see him. I saw a photo of you and your dad in a newspaper article about the mess the city made on our trail that we walk our dogs on. Harriet and I love Southern Alberta. We have been to Waterton National Park, about 10 years ago. Such a pretty and underrated part of Canada. We spent two nights at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The Waterfalls never gets old. You can drink the pristine water. Audrey, your Mom and Dad live in a pretty part of Canada. We are envious. Great Job with the video. Waterton Lakes is an amazing park! So cool that you got to stay at the Prince of Wales. We're hoping to make it back this autumn to tackle more of the trails - we're tempted to do the hike to the US border and also enjoy some of the autumn foliage!

Brings back memories. I stayed two nights many years ago at the Prince of Wales. See they repainted and changed the color scheme. Looks really nice. At that time, they had an old fashioned boat or small ship that gave a tour of the lake even crossing over the U.S. border. I sat at that big window looking out to the lake for hours until the sun went down. I didn't want to leave it.

Two of our favourites as well! We honestly prefer it to Banff - you still get the beauty of the Rockies, but it's way less crowded.

Please don't forget our high population Grizzlies, one of the highest densities of aggressive bears in Western North America, Glacier is just across the "street"! My Father was the Fish and Wildlife officer here for 20 years and I'm A guide....seen some stuff...

I lived in Waterton before the big fire in 2018. The fire came right up to the houses and the hotel. Thanks to the firefighters they were saved.
Waterton is like a magnifying glass of Canada. There is the prairie, the foothills and the Rockies. It is a wonderful place. In June there is an abundance of wildflowers, in September a huge herd of Elk is gathering. So much wildlife and sometimes bears strolling through the town.
I have to say it. It is not allowed to let dogs off the leash. The main reason is if there is a bear encounter the dog will run back to you and bring his new friend along. Please respect the rules. Thank you!
If you find yourself in Banff, I recommend the restaurants “Shoku” “block” or “Park distillery” …tooloulous has the best breakfast! I also recommend visiting the Banff Springs (free to walk around inside) and go to the trading post (get a picture w the Marilyn Monroe bear). And if u have time to do the sunshine village gondola there’s some gorgeous easy hikes up there with breathtaking views of valley. I used to work up there…. Don’t bother eating up there cuz the foods meh. And if you are looking for a nice easy 1.5 hour hike with great views try Tunnel Mountain! Hello from Calgary! 😁👍
Waterton is gotgeous. dogs arent nervous or anxious. They only reflect what they are fed.
Next time your there do a hike up to Bertha Lake, named after my great aunt
You guys didn't take the boat cruise on Waterton Lake across the border? Lot of scenic views! Same with the Bear Hump trail next to the town the view is gorgeous at the top. The last time we were at Waterton was last December tons of snow we were snowshoeing at -27C.
We would have loved to but some activities are a little tricky with a big dog. We're planning to go back without the pooch to explore more of the park and tackle some trails.
The lodge at 11:21 reminds me a little of the Canada Pavilion of Epcot's World Showcase.

Yes, we kept thinking it looks just like Patagonia! Toguchi was very suspicious of the bison and any wild creature he saw from the car. 😅

just to say, dogs are required to on leash in all of Canada's national parks. Togo, let your owners know that you need your leash ok?

Togo needs to be on a leash in a National Park. Sometimes I think some dog owners need some intelligence instruction so they won't be considered as azz wholes.
