I dont understand why some people hate Neji. He is an incredible character.
People have a hard time seeing other perople's point of view. Neji was kind of a prick in his early days, and at times he treated Hinata very poorly, and that's enough for a lot of people to write him off completely. But they don't see that the reason why he acted that way was because of his upbringing and because he'd basically spent his entire life living in Hinata's and the main family's shadow, despite being older stronger and more talented than her. He was basically doomed to live his entire life as a servant and a bodyguard for people who he despised. If you look at how he's had to live his life, it's entirely reasonable for him to feel the way he did and act the way he did. But some people can't see that far.

he wasn't there to teach her something, it's a hyuga tradition to do "x-kumite" fight
with x being a number i forgot how much it was and kumite being a single round hyuga style fighting
they basically have to fight a certain numbers of rounds around this time of the year and hinata usually would do those with her father but he had to leave so neji was there as his replacement
the problem is that hinata wanted to go on a festival or something with naruto and to be able to go there she had to finish that x amount of rounds sooner than usual meaning less days with fighting but therefore more fights per day
neji could keep up but hinatas stamina and byakugan didn't last long enough to achive that goal and ended up hurting her health so yeah.... that would be the summary

I find it funny that people hate on side characters for being useless when the issue is you have a main protagonist growing in power so much faster than everyone else in the show to compete with the OP villains the author made. Like in the fight with Pain Naruto is on his own level of power compared to the hidden leaf, yet when Hinata Fails to solo Pain (after Naruto just failed to do it) everyones like "OMG Hinata is SO useless guys!" like yall upset over a side character being a side character and its kinda laughable. You want to be upset with Hinata maybe its better to look at the writing of the show your watching and ask Why is this villain so much higher in power than litterally every single character in the show, or WHY is hinata useless, You'd find over half the cast is useless for most of the show. Like I love naruto but the issue is less the side characters themselves and instead the pacing, and writing of the show / manga and its use of characters that hurt it from being better than it is.
