Love the video, Lee! The new camera set up works great, and I enjoyed that techno time-lapse. Great to see another classic computer saved.

I still need to get used to the new microphone setup. I feel like I was a bit too close in some spots so it had some small distortion and the recapping and cleaning section had all sorts of rubbing noises because I had the mic in my shirt pocket.

Love the time lapse keyboard assembly to the beat lol

The song by Psychadelik Pedestrian is blood brilliant and the keyboard montage insync with the music is fantastic!
Since they removed the thumbs bar, I can't be bothered voting, but this time, I had to give it thumbs up.

Aah the memories. This was my very first computer and I remember it like yesterday even though I was only 4 years old lol. I kept using it for about another 5 years (even though it used to chew all my tapes up by the end of it, probably my fault coz I never cleaned anything :D )

I will try to when I have time or at least someway to make the boring parts a bit more interesting. I missed out many many hours of the actual cleaning, this keyboard was not easy to remove the keys.

@@leesmithsworkshop Ace! Yeah, keep up the good work! I found that the audio-in mod is easy and useful if you want to load from tape using an external player. The internal deck can be really fussy for loading, but its worth servicing if you want to create new tapes as it can make really solid recordings.

It's a +2A/B, they were released later than the +3 so are very similar, minus the floppy controller.

I have been unlucky with my ZX Spectrum purchases, 1st one the tape deck got damaged in shipping, the record button fell off and the plastic clip for the play button has snapped off, but otherwise works, 2nd one gives me the rainbow screen but using a diag rom it says theres a button being pressed down so I hope that just means keyboard issue and easy, 3rd works great. But then I bought a romcart and I can't get it to work

Many Spectrum 128s and +2s had colour fringing issues on the RF modulator at release - we took several back to the store at the time, thinking they had a fault! It's possible that's what you're seeing here? I'd love it if you managed to diagnose that problem, and show Sinclair/Amstrad how it *should* have been done 😉

Analogue circuits are a bit of a mystery for me so not something I could cover in a video without lots of research first. Perhaps Noels retro lab would be a better choice for that topic.

Great video Lee really enjoyed it.
Power supply stuff scares the bajeezus out of me however ;-).
Two slight tips regarding the Break test mode.
1). You can enter it by holding Break and pressing the reset switch so need need for a full power down.
2). There is a full factory test mode you can enter. Once the colour bars with 1987 are displayed press the following keys at the same time. QAZ PLM

Great video, if only both of my 128k spectrums has a decent scart or rf output the video out put is so bad it's unusable, I have to plug in a VGA adapter to get the best picture from it

Hi. It's not the glue on the sides of tape window, its just dirt that gets behing and it also scratches a bit the transparent plastic. So its easy to fix, just take it out (carefuly so it does not crack), clean with alcohol and see how it looks. If still does not look good then polish it with some car polish paste and it'll be like new. I'we done it with several amstrad cpcs, so presume its the same.

HI, Thanks, I never got around to fixing the tape drive so I could look at the plastic at the same time. I am using a Spectrum Next clone at the moment so the +2 is in storage.

I bought a "new" one a few months ago. Couldn't find my old 2+A which didn't send image to the screen. I know i probably have it somewhere at my parents house, which i could find it to bring it back to life... But i don't think i own it anymore, such a shame...
