Wow! What a great video with wonderful graphics and campground overview. Just what is needed to get a feel for the campground & campsites. Hoping to visit the area in September.

I was just up there this last weekend! Beautiful area. I ended up camping in the other Medicine Bow -- west of Encampment.

Nice! I’d like to check that area too- what did you think of the campgrounds there?

@@highdesertcampertours I just picked a spot out in the woods off FR801. I did take a look at Lost Creek Campground though and was impressed. Small campground with most sites overlooking what I assume was Lost Creek. Still a lot of runoff from snowmelt so a bit soggy. Right off the highway would be the only negative.

Thanks for this video! Really like the way you show each site and the drive in.. I am curious about the 22ft length restriction when many of the sites were 35ft or longer. Seems like I could get in/out with a 34 ft 5th wheel? Is that a Forest Service length restriction?

You’re welcome and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I think the 22ft restriction has to do with the additional tow vehicle, so the 35ft driveway can hold a 22ft trailer and a tow vehicle. It is a FS length restriction but I am unsure how strict they are with it.
There are other campgrounds (and dispersed camping) in the area that have larger sites (Nash Fork and North Fork Campgrounds), but Sugarloaf has the best views. I would personally call the Laramie FS at 307-745-2300 just to make sure, but I’m thinking they are pretty strict on it.
Whether or not you camp at Sugarloaf, I hope you go up to the Snowies and have a great time!

Just so everyone knows as of May 27 2024 Sugarloaf and and many others were still under at least three feet of snow. Very heavy snowfall this past winter. We drove past here two days after WY 130 opened for the year. Unfortunately, anything other than WY 130 is mostly closed. Please call USFS for current conditions at least through the end of June.

Hey Denusa! Thanks for the update! You’ll have to go back sometime once the snow has melted, beautiful area!

@@highdesertcampertours We were on our last days of our Spring 2024 vacation/ TH-cam channel filming project (including filming many campgrounds) . Great area. Could not visit the campgrounds or even get off the highway as the snow was up to ten feet deep in many places. Anybody who visits this area we recommend using Centennial, Encampment or Saratoga as a supply base as the Snowy Range is quite remote in many places.

Hey, I was wondering how busy it was when you went. Decided we'd like to go during a weekend a couple weeks from now and don't have a reservation. Would you expect all of the unreserved sites to be taken if we arrive on a friday night? Cheers mate and great video!

It is a very busy campground, and most likely all the sites would be taken on a Friday night, but I know occasionally there could be an open site because of someone not showing up for their reservation. There are other campgrounds in the area, so if not, you should at least be able to find a site in the area.
