This is what I am saying. If they do plan on moving away from Jones next year...why risk that part of his contract?! Makes no sense to me. And its because of that that I believe they still want him for next year. I think what our future is as Giants fans is...DJ this year regardless of how bad it may be, hopefully they draft a QB next year, and DJ starts next year for X amount of time until the rookie is called in and hopefully does well.

Lock is better than Jones anyways from the games I’ve seen lock play as a Seahawks/ broncos. He’s had bad games for sure… but Jones is 1-7 in his last 8 with 2 passing TDs??? In 8 games? Lock at least will bring some spark I think… you can get 2 passing tds BY ACCIDENT in 8 games
I agree with everyone here, try out either Lock or Tommy. My thing is this, you know what you have in Jones. He's shit. Next week he'll be shit, the week after that he'll be shit, he sucks. It’s a sign the club is improving, able to reach the playoffs, and knock off a mid tier playoff team. When you win one playoff game in 5 seasons, and decline, not a flex. That game Jones won was followed an absolute hammering at the hands of Philadelphia, followed by a continuing disaster right up to today.

Jones won a playoff game on the road - and why is that so impressive? Need I remind you that Mark Sanchez won 4 playoff road games in his first 2 seasons - how did he pan out? It's been 6 years. We have a body of work to evaluate. The 1 playoff season is the outlier, and even in that year, his numbers weren't exactly impressive. It's very rare for a guy to make big improvements in their mid to late twenties. Habits have formed and they become extremely difficult to break. He is who he is: a turnover prone, below average starter. Time to move on.

Jones proved he's the worst QB on the team multiple times. Drew Lock played better with Seattle last year. And Tommy played better as a rookie I'm sure Tommy is still better in his 2nd year.

You can blame the qb play all you want on why this team doesn’t do anything. A franchise QB can be found in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Look at Russell Wilson. Look at Joe Montana. Look at Tom Brady.

Im not going to say that Schoen has been a horrible manager because I believe he made some great draft selections and a few good free agent signings. But he seriously dropped the ball on the DJ/Barkley contract situation the last two years. His mismanagement of these two probably set the franchise back another 3 years. Saquon clearly looks like he has a few years left in the tank, and there were some solid QB's we could have gotten in this years draft, and might have actually been able to have a competent offense this year.
Dave gettleman set us back 5-6 years by drafting Jones in the first place

A road playoff game doesn’t matter when that defense was one of the two he could score against. That’s 2-7 including a playoff game for the second half of the season.

BT fails to understand that it’s not about Drew or Tommy being more talented than 8 but it’s the fact that they are actually willing to throw the ball when the play is there. 8 stands there and has no clue what he is seeing. He throws the ball into the dirt and runs into sacks.
This is more of a Mike White/Zach Wilson issue.. high draft pick that can’t process is (likely) to be outplayed by the lesser talent at the position based off the fact that the backup is able to play the position better. The upside is a functional offense. The downside is that the ceiling is lower. I don’t see how anyone watching doesn’t understand that. 8 is so bad that people think no other qb can function. It’s humiliating to watch.
Play Jones one more game see how it goes if it is the same story to then put the in the next guy for two games the last guy, don't drag this season out.
Every game Jones plays is risking him being injured and the Giants being on the hook for an additional 25$ million next season if they cut him. I’d give him a couple more chances but if this turns out to be a lost season it’s best to cut your losses.
Agreed! They can't keep playing him because of what he is currently costing the franchise. If he isn't producing they are at risk of costing themselves even more money. If you are going to get the same results with someone cheaper, then go the cheaper route and bid adieu. I sometimes think Daboll is trying to show everyone he is the smartest guy in the room and it is going to be to his detriment. Schoen may have the same issue.
That would be a huge mistake Jones has clause in his contract if he gets injured i think its 23 million or so guaranteed,Giants would be even more effed,.

I’m noticing a lot of histrionics and panic after only one game from several team’s media this season. Now granted I understand the Giant fan frustration. I would never have drafted him. What did he ever do in college? But considering Dwayne Haskins, who is now deceased, was the alternative, I’m not sure there was a right decision. DJ is barely a backup QB. A lot of this mess comes down to Joe and possibly Mara for giving DJ the anchor contract it is. We also have the worst QB room in the league. We have a "bend don't break" defense philosophy, but not the supporting cast to successful implement this strategy. On offense we have no running game. All of this "roster" building comes down to Joe. He took a bad team, and if possible made it worse. He definately made the cap situation worse. Hard Knocks reveals so much, and how not ready for primetime he is. He doesn't take advice; especially when it differs from his opinion. Prime examble is when he asked Bohen (sp) what he needs to make his defense work. Bohen replies a LB and CB. Joe's respons is how about Brian Burns. He has misread the market every time, ae. The Giants should have drafted the Washington QB last year instead of Neighbors. Nothing against Neighbors, but weapons are useless when you have a QB that can't fully take advantage of said weapons.
Problem is the giants have 0 fire. Jones is a vacuum. Other team gets a 2 score lead its OVER. Point out who's bringing them back in any situation

Lock is a tank backup, with a 6th round pick there are probably 8 backups better than him. I would leave Jones in as the tank QB for 6 games and bench him only if it is close, his ceiling is 4 Ws of 17 games. Lock is going to be as bad and will get benched and Jones will be back. Divito is dangerous tanking, he is low paid with his hair on fire, in a 17-game season he could win 4 or more games and tank your tank, the coach and most players to some extent should have their hair on fire also.

that extension looks awful if you bench Jones now then you're basically saying he's not the guy and we made a mistake i don't think you bench Jones even if he looks bad ride with him until the season ends then you decide what to do. i like Devito not sure about lock but you if believe in Jones because you locked him for the next two years ride with him until you get a another QB. i totally get you're trying to win and if you're QB is not getting it done you make the change, but to me it's still to early to bench him.
