When that young fan handed to ball to the cute girls, you missed the part where he smoothly switched out the Game Ball he just caught, with the ball he already had in his Glove. He handed the girls the ball he already had, while secretly keeping the Game Ball for himself. Smooth Operator right there.

It's in the unwritten rules that need to be written down and then burned. A bat flip is OK so long as it occurs soon after the swing is completed. But any lingering or admiring the ball in flight, then dramatically flipping the ball is taunting and subject to a head shot sometime in the future. In Korea it is an accepted "art form". Last year during the "rona" many American players went there while the MLB was shutdown and a problem adjusting, but soon accepted it as "fun". When I lived in Korea I went to many games (it was practically free for the military like me). The fans there and in Japan are very simila......a big party.

Tossing the bat is a taunt. Tecehnically a player is not supposed to throw it or toss it, but just drop it. In recent years, it has become like spiking the ball in football and umpires have statted allowing it. Until about ten years ago, it was rare. Players used to just stand and watch the ball land in the seats before they would strate running the bases.

The hardest thing to do, in all of sports, is hit a major league pitch. To be a successful hitter, they have to have such amazing eyesight that they can pick up the way the laces are spinning on the ball. Then, they have a fraction of a second to make up their mind to swing. Then, they have to be strong enough to get the bat moving, and through the strike zone before the ball gets passed them.

  • @gregadkins2483

Batflips, staring down a homerun, not running fast enough around the bases after hitting one, these, and many other things could mean a fastball coming towards your head next at bat. Jose Battista "showed up" the Rangers at the end of one season, and the first time the teams played the next season there was a bench clearing brawl. It is stupid, but that is baseball.

5:51 Ah, good ol' "Sweet" Lou Piniella. I think I've said it before, but nobody does ejections quite like Lou Piniella.
6:05 This was during the A's-Mariners season-opening series a couple years ago that was Ichiro Suzuki's swansong.
Also, funny that it's in the Tokyo Dome, the home field of the Yomiuri Giants (who I absolutely despise, being a Hanshin Tigers fan [the rivalry between the Hanshin Tigers and Yomiuri Giants is the biggest in Japanese baseball, and rivals the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry in the MLB]), but the Mariners are the home team here, and I've been a fan ("true to the blue", as the Mariners say in ads) since the "death star" days of the late 90s (literally, four postseason appearances in franchise history, all within seven seasons from 1995-2001 [1995, 1997, 2000, and 2001]).
In Japan, they (more specifically, the Hanshin Tigers) have what's known as the "Curse of the Colonel" (much like the Boston Red Sox' "Curse of the Bambino", or the Chicago Cubs' "Curse of the Billy Goat"). The Food Theorists did a video about the Curse of the Colonel, called "Food Theory: KFC and the Curse of Colonel Sanders".
10:19 Yes, bat flips are seen as disrespectful. They're boastful, like "yeah, I just hit your shit outta here".
A 1-year-old fan at a Philadelphia Phillies game tried to eat Mickey Moniak's first major league home run ball. His older brother caught it, gave it to him, and then he did what all 1-year-olds do, and tried to put it in his mouth. And, because it's customary for players to keep their first home run ball, the family struck a deal with Moniak and the Phillies that allowed Moniak to keep his first home run ball while the family got a care package from the Phillies, including some merch about their mascot, the Philly Phanatic. You NEED to watch a video of it, it's just the cutest thing to happen at a baseball game since the "Cotton Candy Girl" at a Mariners game.
In 2006, in honor of the Mariners' 30th season, longtime Mariners announcer, Dave Niehaus (RIP) made a top 10 video of great Mariners moments. Someone uploaded it to TH-cam in 2010. It's simply called "Dave Niehaus Top 10 Mariners Moments".

Batters have to be careful about being too over the top with their celebrations, batflips, and watching the baseball when they hit homeruns. I am not a fan of it, but baseball might be the sport with the most "unwritten rules" that govern how players should act. If you show up the other team too much they are likely to hit you with a pitch on purpose the next time they come up to bat. You should do a video reacting to "The Unwritten Rules of Baseball" especially if it actually explains the unwritten rules and not just a compilation of players getting upset when one of them is broken. 7:50 is a good example, you can see the catcher immediately take offense to the batter
5:10 the kid actually did keep the ball. He had his own ball for some reason, and when he caught the foul ball he gave the girls the ball he already had
6:07 The A's and Mariners started the 2019 season in this clip in Japan both to promote MLB in Japan and also because Ichiro, one of the legendary players on the Mariners, was retiring after the two games (weird to retire 2 games into the season but worth it because of how revered he is in Japan, words do not do justice just how much the country loves him). I would encourage reacting to stuff about baseball in Japan, it is the most popular sport there but people in the US actually know very little about the culture of baseball in Japan. th-cam.com/video/O9FK_4w-COE/w-d-xo.html is a good video to start with, big youtuber who's channel is all about going to various games (and trying to get as many balls hit into the crowd as he can, not a fan of that part) goes to his first Japanese baseball game in the legendary Koshien Stadium. The way the crowd acts at games is very different in Japan compared to the US. I have just started to get into baseball in Japan myself, would really like to see you react as well.
To help you search Japanese baseball, their pro league is called Nippon Professional Baseball or NPB. There are lots of videos of people going to their first Japanese game and most of them go over the differences between baseball in Japan and the US. But even more than the NPB I would look up videos about what is Japan's most watched sporting event of the year, the Summer Koshien, which is the tournament to crown Japan's High School national champions of the year, held in the stadium of the video I posted earlier.

Just an FYI, headshots are 99% of the time intentional.
A pitchers mistake is clipping an elbow, cathing a guy in the arm, side or hip. But the head is so far out of the strike zone it's almost always on purpose.
    Why?
Sometimes strategy, it may be an attempt to rattle a guy. It may be to avenge a slight, or it may be because you just don't like the SOB.
Major bench clearing brawls have occurred from headshots or even worse, throwing BEHIND the batter.
Think about it, even the crappiest major league pitcher has ball control so far beyond the average human it's unreal.

Flipping your bat is a bit of a weird thing. It's seen as disrespectful... sometimes. It all depends on who is doing the flipping and what the situation of the game is. Generally, if it's a big rivalry flipping a bat can lead to bench clearing brawls, so it's probably not a good idea.
Hitting a baseball is the single most difficult thing to do in sports, and this isn't just me saying it. That's a generally accepted fact among fans of all sports and people that know way more than I do about such things. When they make perfect contact, it's one of the sweetest sounds in the world. I hate seeing guys take a ball to the face though. Having been hit in the head by both a thrown and batted ball in the past, I can tell you it isn't fun. Makes my spine crawl every time I see it.

Doing any of the following is totally disrespectful when you hit a home run 1. flipping your bat, 2. staring down the pitcher 3. running very slowly around the bases, 4. any celebrating while running around the bases (unless your home run ends a game.) 5. talking trash to the pitcher or catcher. These transgression must be avenged at some point in the future, (of the pitchers choosing.) Expect a fastball in the ribs, or back {not the thigh or arm bcuz they don't hurt enough), a fastball under the chin that doesn't hit you but causes you to dive out of the way. This settles an old score.
Baseball has it protocols (commandments) and there are consequences for breaking them.⚾⚾⚾
Players learn these rules at a young age and they are very rarely broken. Standing in that batters box is intimidating enough when the pitcher can throw 95 mph. If he also has a personal score to settle with you, look out!!! Baseball players (especially pitchers) have long memories. 😝😝😝😝

Baseball has "unwritten rules" that are usually only enforced by a team that's butthurt about losing. I get showing some respect and sportsmanship, but any remote slight will piss off some players and teams whose egos can't handle being shown up.

The old farts get all uptight about bat flips, but I have no issue with it. It's one of the hardest things to do in sports...hitting a baseball. And you aren't supposed to celebrate??? Everyone else on the field can pump it up when they make a good play, but all the poor pitchers get their feelings hurt when a guy throws his bat.
