Hi Fransesco Just seen your video. 👍👍👍👍👍 As I am not very confident working on my car without doc, is their any way to get the repair manual you are using ? Regards
I've done this 4 times on my own n57 cars over the years, top tip , fit a oil breather catch tank inbetween the cam case breather pipe and turbo inlet. These engines either run on oil vapours or exhaust gas black soot, It just builds up eventually stalling the swirl actuator. Also number 1 gets the most blockage in the valve inlet. Drops the power right down and mpg as stated, I've found carb cleaner and long bristled brush gets it out. If you let cleaner into the engine...a little wont break the rods from start compression...I've found that the starter stalls nicely slowly allowing compression to fall to a safe start. Also take the batter neg off before you start to avoid codes. Always check the cars thermostats and glow plug sytem is 100% as this controls the dpf regen, which results in poor mpg too and very little heat for the regen to work efficiently 👍
What are the symptoms of a clogged dirt inlet/swirl flap. I get a rough idle intermittently for only 2-4 minutes. Then the car runs absolutely fine till it sits cold again
Check engine module with bi directional code reader, faults will say broken swirl actuator or glow plug issue. Clear the engine adaptations and see if the faults return after driving. If so strip and clean swirl...or replace glow plug module.
If you can, while in there, replace the coolant return plastic pipe from the engine head when removing the manifold. Yes, i know coolant system is lots more work. But its the most infamous part on BMWs and known for cracking. Good VIDEO MATE!!!!!
That's the issue with my n57 and my brothers n47 in the same day, that bloody plastic pipe gasket !!!!! I have had my car for 3 years whilst he has had his for 9 months 😢 Egr delete. Swirl flap delete. Media blasted inlet and remap for both of us . Do it right do it properly
Perfect tutorial. If I may suggest - it will be helpful to keep the camera in one position; then move from that position around the engine, otherwise it is difficult to understand which part of the engine you show on close ups :) Do you have those diagrams which you have shown on the video? I will be obliged if you can share them.
Hallo , a very good movie, I started yesterday in my bmw N57 258 hp 2012 - 242.000km, a lot more sediment like in your engine - no errors, the car runs normally but I will not delay any longer, logical - twice as many kilometers, so I go to hard work tomorrow. thanks for the video
My car has done 245k km and nothing like that has been done. I've just loosened everything up to change the plastic coolant tube that sits under the intake manifold. Saw the PVC+EGR mixture in the manifold. Will clean it all out as soon as I could. Had to do only the repair because I was on the side of the road and in a massive pickle. Luckily I knew someone who could buy that little tube for me and brought tools. 2hrs later everything was fixed, now I gotta find spare time to clean intake manifold which is caked up, 2x or more thicker crud wall than yours.
When you do a cleaning on the intake manifold, you need to do the same with the ventile valves on the in port of the engine. I have a tool to lock each port before start cleaning. You put the tool on the crankshaft and rotate till one port is locked. You keep on till all ports and ventile is cleaned. No dirt will fall into ports. Another thing is that you need to cleaning all the way from airfilter to EGR and throttle body. Would an EGR turbo cleaner spray do the job?
Pro tip, if you have a jetwash get 2kg of caustic soda drain cleaner and a container big enough for your manifold. Wearing goggles and gloves, carefully add the soda to the water and mix slowly, then immerse the manifold for 20 mins, jetwash, soak for 20 minutes, jetwash, repeat until it looks brand new. No smells, no oily hands and a job far better than can be acheived with brushes and solvents. Don't jetwash it against a white wall, end of the garden or something.
