I am 13, obvi don’t have a license but I’ve “trained” on the A320 for over a year and know pretty much every system, so I feel that I could communicate and land the plane safely with a full stop, as long as it’s an A320

During aerial photography runs a retired Coast Guard pilot really enjoyed the fact I was intrigued with flight, and several times had me line up to runways several miles out. When I'd mentioned the "might fall out of the sky" sensation I was having, he demonstrated that fixed wing aircraft WANT to stay in the sky :) It actually takes more effort than you'd think to get that plane back on the ground. Imagine finding yourself in that position with Lloyd Bridges and Johnny coaching you to a landing. "Johnny, what do you make of this???"

As a private pilot with instrument rating, I am certain I could not safely land a jet airliner on my own! The very first thing I am doing is contacting air traffic control and asking for all the help I can possibly get; get a training captain on the line to walk me through every single step!
yeah on a simulator I think many people could land, even I who just play MFS could land but the risks of failure is very high, in real life things are different, you have just one shot to get it right

I would love to be able to get out there and have a go at that training for the knowledge and confidence and experience to fly a commercial aircraft. It will be a big blessing to gain the experience and the confidence of operating a big aircraft. Watching from New Zealand
I find it hilarious how they keep showing Airbus A220 footage despite the simulator being an Airbus A320. Heck, how many people know that the Airbus A220 isn't even an Airbus design, but rather a Bombardier CS100/300 that was purchased by Airbus?
I believe that with some guidance over the radio I could make a reasonable job of it. I work with heavy machinery & must be able to operate a huge variety of equipment, plus i come from an agricultural family where every day sees you operate different machines of often high complexity. On top of this I spent 36 years as an electronics engineer which includes several years in lidar bathemetry airborne survey & got to sit with the flight crew watching them land, take off & fly routes....
It is possible for anyone calm enough to step up and land a plane... but ONLY if you're in contact with assistance from the ground, and the right assistance as well. It's happened, more times than we'd imagine. Remain calm, and you have a chance. It is possible only. Things can still go wrong (even for experienced pilots) and you have zero experience to call upon, so anything else going wrong is going to be critically bad... but if others have done it, YOU can. With help. And a large dose of God on your side (or luck, if you prefer). I'd rather, of course, never be put into such a situation... but I'd give it a college try if I had to. You're dead either way, but only one of those ways has the chance of you and others onboard walking away with your life. Might as well try.
Never had any real-world flight experience as a pilot. I've simply spent a lot of time on MSFS. I'm a big fan of study level modern airliners, they're totally worth the money. Bought the Fenix Airbus A320 and the PMDG 737-700/737-800 as well as the ATR 72-600/42-600 turbo props. I've spent tonnes of hours leaning on these planes, including the aircraft systems. I've written out my own checklists to start these aircraft up from cold & dark, programming the flight plan and take off configurations. I've also learnt how to fly an ILS arrival so definitely know how to get the plane to it's arrival airport, in these types of aircraft at least. I also have access to all the Jepesen airport charts around the world through Navigraph. Fun Fact: The pilot & and co-pilot never have the same meal in case one of them gives you food poisoning.
If i were ever in a position to successfully land a commercial aircraft safely, i would step out of the cockpit wearing an AC/DC shirt, the pilots hat on and the Styrofoam coffee cup in my hand, and well-wish each passenger as they deboard. "Thank you for flying with us, have safe travels."
I often ponder this exact situation. Ive decided theres zero chance I'd be able to land nor would i want to risk harming others bc of my shortcomings. Id call in the emergency if i can figure out the radio and then jus look for an open area to crash out.
If it was up to me, I feel that if the situation warranted it with my survival on the line, and I had people able to guide me through step by step, I'm confident that there's about a 20% chance I might be able to possibly land the plane semi-safely with sort of acceptable damages and injuries. Maybe. (And I'm being VERY generous with that 20% haha)
In an airbus, id definitely need a recap on how to use the autopilot, because its different to the Boeing, im quite familiar with the Boeing systems from flight simulator, and i have flown a discovery flight in a piper archer, and flew for most of the flight So id say, id definitely be able to land a 737, and id most likely be able to land an airbus, but i wouldnt be as confident in the airbus as i would the Boeing
It’s not like you can just click a button to land at the closest airport you have to dial in the frequency for the airport set the transponder to 7700 then capture the G/S and click APPR depending on what plane you are on and than turn on both of the CMDS. Set flaps do all landing procedure like speed brake arm and land lights.
I am 14 years old and I am 99% Sure I can land an Airbus A320, I have studied that planes buttons and everything, and I have flew it in the same simulator. But I probably can’t land a Boeing

I have 41 hours in actual planes, including solo time, and I landed a 737 in a simulator with the help of an actual 737 pilot. I think I could MAYBE land an airliner in an emergency situation if I had to, but even that would be tough for me, because jets just fly so much differently than small piston airplanes. Small inputs make the plane move A LOT.

No... The "user interface to the controls and instruments" is actually designed for ease of use. There is just so much information that the pilot is required to know that it requires extensive training and familiarization with flight physics, aircraft controls, and systems.
If you think these controls are “gawd awful,” please don’t google “Concorde cockpit” and go to images. New airline cockpits are actually designed with simplicity in mind. The reason the controls look so complicated is because airplanes have so many systems unlike cars, that all require their own buttons, switches, levers, or knobs to control. Anti ice system, cabin pressure, radios, elevator and ailerons, flaps, spoilers, the various external lights, navigation systems for GPS and VORs. There are also gauges to tell you your airspeed, altitude, vertical speed, fuel, etc. the thing with planes is that pilots have to be able to manually control everything because if an emergency arises, you can’t just pull over and get towed to the mechanic like you can with a car. Pilots have to be able to diagnose and resolve issues to safely get the plane on the ground.

I could do this in real life… atc would walk you through everything. Making sure your flaps are fully expanded and landing gear is down is the key

Ground crews are pretty good at sorting out a plane landing, just needs a confident player at the yoke

I dont think it will work. Planes are different. The amount of stress and functions..too much.
