Flight instructor here: learning on a big liner like this is a hell of a way to get your first taste of aviation! Trainer aircraft are a lot less complex and more forgiving with all the various dials and knobs to navigate. It's a very common trait among new students to fixate on the instruments, I would often have to remind my guys to use their window and actually look out while they fly the airplane. It seriously makes a difference when tracking a course and keeping level smooth flight
@@jaywexler859 That's about right. $8-12K depending on the aircraft you rent, written testing materials, and instructor time. The good news is if you want to get an experience like this schools will often give deep discounts or even free introductory rides to see if the pilot bug bites you!
What would a person like me have to do to learn to fly a plane. How expensive is it? Im already in my 30s and not getting any younger. EDIT just your response.
The plane starts yelling Bank Angle at 30° or more. Pilots try to avoid this, so the default bank angle set on the autopilot for takeoff is 25 degrees. In fog, always use autopilot!
In a plane you’re actually not going to feel the angle until either it’s extremely steep or something is majorly going wrong. This is because the lift from the wings is rotating with the plane, if that makes sense. So it makes it feel like gravity is always going straight towards the floor of the plane (this is kind of a shitty explanation but I’m not trying to write an essay)
@@hunterreeves6525 I understood absolutely nothing, yet at the same time I thank you for not writing a essay as I most likely wouldn't read it, besides I don't have the intelligence to understand basic plane mechanics.

And especially happy because they just did something as cool as flying a freaking airplane! Glad to see Captain Moist take command of my archaic and antiquated jet. Glad you enjoyed the experience. I will say the sim instructor was overloading you with information.
When MoistCritikal took flight, the aviation industry had to redefine the concept of humidity. His mere presence in the cockpit caused an unprecedented level of moisture, making the skies rain with laughter-induced condensation. Passengers now board his plane armed with waterproof suits and umbrellas, ready to embrace the mist of moistness that accompanies his comedic escapades. So buckle up, stay hydrated, and prepare for a flight that'll leave you dripping with laughter!

Thats awesome you got to experience the sim! However, nothing beats the feeling of an actual plane reacting to the controls. Something actually mesmerizing about it, I do hope you get to experience if you ever overcome your 'heebie jeebies".
My dad has a bad fear of heights so he decided to go through airborne school when he was in the army. I asked him if jumping out of a plane beat his fear and he said "Fuck no! But I wanted to at least get in the ring and look it in the face" I always had so much respect for that mindset

@@jaywexler859 Depends on the liner and the type (full motion vs static mock up with screens) but will ballpark between $500-1500 per hour
@@jaywexler859 That's about right. $8-12K depending on the aircraft you rent, written testing materials, and instructor time. The good news is if you want to get an experience like this schools will often give deep discounts or even free introductory rides to see if the pilot bug bites you!

He needs to go for a discovery flight.
@@nickmallonee4549 that would be awesome
Next he has to play DCS. He is a gamer, it's only the next logical progression.
This video made me realize every flight I've ever been in, the pilots are extremely skilled as not once did I feel as if I was at a 45° angle or less.
Commercial pilots have thousands of hours of practice

I used to be really afraid of flying too. Then, because of my disability, I couldn’t drive far distances but I wanted to be able to visit my best friend who lives a good 8-10 hours away. So I kinda love this video, because I am two things: Someone who's afraid of flying, and someone with a hideous amount of flight simulator experience. I can't say putting a thousand hours into flying airliners on your PC cured my fear of flying, but it did help me appreciate just how incredible flying is.
I wonder if flying in VR would be more effective in conquering the fear
@@tielessin I don't need it! I have found meditation and breathing exercises have allowed me to travel confidently. Fears aren't things you 'conquer'; you learn to vibe with them instead.

I love that instructor, he is so passionate about aviation. I would love to listen to him talk about planes for hours
One of my favorite TH-camrs, Mentour Pilot, is a Boeing captain (and type rating instructor / examiner). He explains stuff about aviation that, imo, is super fascinating but also in a way that people that have no prior experience with aviation can understand. I definitely recommend watching him, especially if you are a nervous flyer, as he helps with demystifying a lot of stuff that you might see, hear, or feel while in a plane.
As a private pilot, I am so proud of you facing your fears! I wish more people were open to facing something they fear, because we pilots know they will usually have fun after they try! That smile you made at the end is a smile I've seen people make many times. They're not just happy to be back on the ground safely, they're also happy because they just faced their fears like a badass! And especially happy because they just did something as cool as flying a freaking airplane!
