      I have severe depression, and a whole host of other mental crap runs in my family, so even before I knew I was trans, I never had any intention of purposely and selfishly inflicting that on a child.
      I'm impressed by the dads who do carry their babies themselves. That takes an epic level of fortitude and strength.
      Also, instead of "pregnant dads," they should be "seahorse dads," if they aren't already (fyi for those who may not know, the male seahorse is the one who carries the fertilized eggs in a belly pouch until they hatch, and he "gives birth" to them).

    • @ellioteriksson

      It is a very dysphoria triggering experience, I (a trans man, who have been pregnant and have a biological child), decided that nine months of intense dysphoria was worth it for having a child. One reason is that in my country one has to be 25 years old to adopt, I'm not 25. Another reason is that I'm married to a man and when my transition is done we'll be a same sex couple on paper and then adoption will be a lot more difficult.
      I certainly don't think I could deal with it a second time though, because now I would fully know what I'm getting myself into. Me and my husband intend to foster kids in the future though :)
      And of course, my kiddo is the best thing in the world and I wouldn't change a thing, he's well worth the dysphoria of the pregnancy.

    • @bdhesse
      @bdhesse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      As an enby, I find pregnancy incredibly dysphoric and awful. I'm over halfway through my last pregnancy, and I'm currently in consultation with doctors to get on T and get top surgery and a hysterectomy asap (though I'll still have to wait a year for either one at this point). I think it's really a balancing act of how much you want bio children vs how badly the dysphoria will affect you (we still want more kids, but we'd rather adopt in the future).

    • @marckealhofer1769
      @marckealhofer1769 4 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      Trans guy and I would love to carry at least some of my future kiddos. I haven't actually been pregnant, so I have no idea if I'll find it dysphoric, but I'm not expecting it to be a problem. I've always wanted to foster/adopt, but since I hit my 20s I've increasingly had a desire to do the pregnancy thing at least once. I don't have any issue imagining myself pregnant or giving birth, and certainly no dysphoria with the idea.

    • @mollytovxx4181
      @mollytovxx4181 4 ปีที่แล้ว +87

      I'm a cis-female and honestly being pregnant sounds traumatic to me. I don't experience gender dysphoria but I've heard this described as tokophobia when it occurs in cis-women. The aspects that I find disturbing aren't connected to my gender identity though. For those who find it triggers gender dysphoria it sounds like absolute hell, although as some have mentioned it doesn't trigger a dysphoric reaction in all trans-men. I would assume that those who experience such a strong negative reaction would simply avoid the possibility of pregnancy occuring to the best of their ability.
      From my perspective there is no way I could ever force myself through the experience even if I wanted children, which is why I feel a tremendous respect for men who have gender dysphoria triggered by pregancy who take that path to fatherhood.

  • @fevre_dream8542
    @fevre_dream8542 4 ปีที่แล้ว +248

    Trans FTM can absolutely have children. However, the testosterone supplements can interfere with fetal development, so those who chose to have children may have to go off T therapy.
    This obviously can increase dysphoria and increase depression both pre- and post- partum. Something to look out for.
    All the trans childbearers, stay strong and youre amazing.

    Re: injections of T.....
    I'm not a fan of needles either. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I would get woozy and even faint just doing the finger prick to check my sugar levels. I also passed out cold at the start of my first tattoo. When I had to start taking insulin, I was understandably not looking forward to that.
    The good news is that you learn to deal with it in short order. Jabbing myself is now easier than when others do it. So your viewer shouldn't live in fear of injections, but rather think of it as taking in their own hands their transition into who they know themselves to be. Do not be a prisoner to the fear.

      Facial hair also really just depends on your genetics whether you're trans or cis. If your family tends to have hairy men, you might start growing lots of hair. I'm ftm, just starting hormones, and I've already got a bit of a goatee going on which even my doctor was surprised about. I really wasn't surprised because when my brothers went through puberty, they all had full-grown beards that made them look like grown men by the time they were 12-13. Before even starting hormones I was considered pretty hairy when I was just letting my hair grow out on its own.

Testosterone also distributes fat differently so can also make the chest area smaller which combined with blockers could mean that yes you can without worry but it really depends on your unique body

    For singing: It's a pain. I imagine knowing techniques will be helpful to keep it from cracking, but I never learned any, so it's been like 2 years and I'm only now starting to somewhat get the hang of it again lol

    • @samk324
      @samk324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Really? I am getting better all the time. I was a soprano before and am a baritone now and took many lessons before and very infrequent lessons now but everything just works a little different. The techniques, in their core, are the exact same ones. They just need to be used in different places. For me the more difficult thing was daring to sing in what is now falsetto, but I am getting better. I am hitting notes and my voice breaks a lot less frequently and I am pretty sure that I will be able to sing high notes with confidence again. It's only been one year on T for me and only a few months since my voice truly stabilized.
      But yeah, techniques help greatly and also just daring and trying. We need to relearn how to hit notes because they are in different places now.

    • @DevilishlyDutch
      @DevilishlyDutch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samk324 Yeah so I didn't have any lessons either before or after lmao, so when I say I never learned techniques I mean for either voice type (I don't even know what I was, but not a soprano). I was going to! But then voice dysphoria hit hard. I only dropped to a tenor, really wanted at least baritone, but alas. That was jarring enough, soprano to baritone is quite a drop! I could hit notes again relatively soon too, but the cracking is only getting better now that I'm actually trying a little to smooth it over, I'm not particularly dedicated :P

    • @Vocalinds
      @Vocalinds 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@DevilishlyDutch Hey, you can console yourself with the fact that tenor is the most sought-after voice type, especially in choirs! I'm a choir director and there are NEVER enough tenors. Baritone is the most common male vocal range, and they usually sing bass in a choir.
      Also, a huge portion of popular music is sung in a tenor range, so you've got that going for you too! Man, I would love to help trans guys find their voices. Helping people discover how to sing is one of my favorite things!
      When guys voices change, it really does take some time for the voice to settle and for the person to learn what using their new voice feels like. So keep on trying - you'll get it eventually. 😊

    I've done testosterone via needle, patch, and gel. I did the needle method first, for about a month, and yes, you have to give yourself the shot. I actually started off fine, but I developed a fear of needles as time went on. Then, I switched to patch method. It was good for the most part, but sometimes afterwards you'll get a little red circle where the patch was, and it can be a bit itchy. Also, pulling it off feels like a band-aid, so keep that in mind. Right now, I'm on the gel. It's really good for me. It comes in a little pump-bottle, and you just rub it on. Super easy application, however, I've found it is easier to forgot to put it on. Usually (with the patch and needle method) you go to get blood taken every 3 or so months, however, with the gel, (at first, for about 6 months) you have to get blood taken once every month. It's a trade-off, and it depends on your preferences and your doctors.
    Edit: Feel free to ask me questions. I'd be happy to go into detail and explain stuff.

      @@charb719 Good question! The gel is absorbed by the skin super duper quickly, so it's kinda hard to get T on stuff like couches and chairs unintentionally. In less than 30 seconds, and everything is back to normal (so, the skin is dry after 30 or so seconds). However, it is recommended that you wash your hand carefully after applying, just to be safe. This is such a huge problem for me
    Most of the time I don't have dysphoria, sometimes it'll randomly hit me like a train unprompted. But most of the time I only get dysphoria around things like getting dressed to go outside, people using my 'real' name or she/her pronouns for me, or just saying I look pretty/nice when I'm forced to present feminine or complimenting something that's very girly about my appearance. But, these are all things that don't happen very often for me because I don't leave the house a lot, even before quarantine, and I avoid interacting with most people expect my boyfriend and some online friends so I still often get 'misgendered' or 'deadnamed' (in quotes because I'm only out to my boyfriend) because I live with my family.
    I'm never thrilled to be a girl, I never was I was always a tomboy child, I don't randomly go 'oh hell yeah I'm a woman, sweet' but most of the time it doesn't bother me and I don't feel dysphoric if I just don't think about it.
    I've never been one to care much about my appearance even before I started questioning my gender much less identified as trans so it's just kinda 'oh well that kinda sucks, I don't like that about myself' and just go on about my business.
    My biggest concern is I am trans, but I won't qualify for treatment.

    The whole area of singing and voice and sex hormone changing is really worth a video on it's own. I'm sure it must be quite the thing for anyone out there to be a singer and experience your voice break and shift around and then eventually change to a new normal in real time. The whole thing of what it is for a guy's voice to change isn't something I ever really noticed in my school days, but when a trans acquaintance I hadn't seen since he was a girl suddenly phoned, I remember assuming it was a different male friend. I wonder if anyone else thinks about how mind-blowing that is for a body to create. This thing that you have spent your life shaping around a particular language, that you've always heard the same way, this thing very intertwined with your very breathing, just kind of takes chemical cues and decides to do the male puberty thing, often some year after it normally would for guys and as far as I've heard there's no more vocal chaos than is usually the case when it happens for adolescents. Maybe I'm wrong and it's not consistently quite that similar or miraculis, but it seemed like it.

Do you go out presenting as female, wearing a dress, no medical transition, with makeup and/or long hair, and feel no discomfort in people calling you she? Then you probably arent trans. It depends if you experience gender dysphoria or not. If youre okay presenting as female everyday and having people misgender you (strangers or otherwise) because of it, then i doubt youre trans. But it's not my place to say.

If you aren't sure how they'll respond at all, try asking a few little questions; like "Hey mom, what do you think about those transgender(Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Pan/Etc.) people?" or "Hey dad, why are Transgender (Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Pan etc.) people so disliked?", or something a kin to that. If you already know they'd be somewhat supportive, or if you think they'd be accepting, just try to have a calm, sit down conversation with them one on one. If you don't think they'll be accepting, please keep yourself safe. There's no shame at all about staying in the closet little longer so you can be safe.

  • @kitsutilo
    @kitsutilo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    just right out asking a little question that bothers me a lot:
    Is it only me or it normal that it just emotionally hurts to see someone who already transitioned? I don't know why I feel like this, like i also feel happy for them if it helped them, but then it just hurts to see how far they got. I don't know why i feel like it, i don't know if it is normal, it certainly doesn't feel normal. I think it might have to do a lot with how i just can't make any progress due to my parents. I just don't want to feel bad because someone else made it that far in their life and are happy now. It just makes me feel even worse.
    But yeah... Is it normal to feel that way or am I the problem? Are there any things that help with it?

    • @Queer_Nerd_For_Human_Justice
      @Queer_Nerd_For_Human_Justice 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Awww. It's okay, you're not wrong or bad for having those feelings. It's just jealousy, everybody feels that from time to time. It can be hard to be happy for people who we perceive as doing better than us. I don't know how to make it better except for doing work to raise your self-esteem.
      Some things that may help:
      1. Remember it's not a contest. You have hope, no matter what other people are doing.
      2. They would want you to transition and be happy, they would love to support you.
      3. It always sucks before transition and it will get a lot better when you start.
      4. Remember you're your closest and oldest friend. How would you support a friend if they felt the way you feel?
      5. What you're feeling is truly normal, and there will be a time that you no longer feel this way, if you hold on and keep surviving.
      Good luck!

    About the last question:
    Boys generally experience a big gap between their head (high) and chest (low) voice
    After they went through puberty.
    The best time to remedy this is when you're voice is still dropping.
    According to advice I saw singing songs by female artists
    While transitioning, can really help to minimize the strain on your upper register later on,
    However make sure to get comfortable with the lower register too,
    It's arguably the more important part for you now.

    • @BramLastname
      @BramLastname 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course you can train your vocal muscles to do a lot,
      But it's far from easy.
      Intonation is the most important factor to passing tho,
      So if you want to sound like a guy,
      Try to replace ALL the words of a male actor's quote,
      But keep the quote recognisable as that character.

    I've been wondering if there is still a vaginal opening after bottom surgery. If not, and a hysterectomy has not been performed prior to bottom surgery, what happens if the (admittedly rare) chance of getting a period does occur? And what happens to vaginal fluids? It may sound like a weird question, but it's genuine nonetheless :) Lots of love to you and Shaaba from Greece

    • @that_weird_mer

      So, usually the opening is still there after bottom surgery. I honestly never heard of a person having it closed up, since it is pretty difficult to do. Also, I have not heard of people having bottom surgery but not histerectomy. Additionally, one can get some bleeding after being on testosterone for some time and it only definitely stops after removing the internal organs.

    Speaking as a large-chested person who wears a binder (still questioning identity, but I wear the binder for dysphoria), hugs aren’t *painful* so to speak when I wear the binder-I’ve yet to meet anyone who can hug tighter than the binder itself, and the pressure is in different places, so there’s no discomfort in that particular respect. I actually quite prefer wearing my binder when hugging people; it’s physically easier, and the lack of movement and squish (relative to a binderless hug) is a huge relief. That said, having extra pressure on the chest like from a hug may trigger just a bit of a heightened sense/reminder of the binder being there which I could see possibly being disheartening for some people if they manage to forget its there, but that’s not something I personally deal with.

    I understand why some people might think that hugs might hurt a FTM that is binding, because before I got my top surgery done, I used to make extream akward hugs to make sure that my chest did not touch them, in fear that they might feel something there that was not supposed to be there.
