    It’s funny, being a long time runner and cyclist, my first Garmin was the 301 almost 19 years ago. My last one, the Forerunner 935 I've had for six years and it was my first one to have golf functionality. Updating that one, I just got a 51mm Epix Pro last week and have played just one round with it so far but, like you say, its tech is amazing. My golfing ability is way behind the watch’s 😆but it will be fun…and you earned a sub…thank you.

      Yes and the screen is an absolute game changer. Congrats on the watch and thanks for joining the LPT community.

      Are you still happy with the upgrade? I am using the FR935 still and am now thinking of upgrading, but to the 47mm version. I'm a bit worried that the thickness does get a bit bulky or annoying when going for a run (which I still do).

    I have the Garmin S62. Just for golf but does a good job. Interfaces improve with newer watches of course. Garmin watches are getting more and more outrageously priced. My buddy and I had the sensors. They go bad quickly. Garmin can’t figure out why they do some of the things they do. I took them off. Don’t need sensors with S62 anyway as the watch tracks your distance on each shot. No one I know is going through all the menus to hit a shot. But if someone on the course is taking too long to hit maybe they are screwing around with their golf watch!

    Great review, really enjoyed it. I’m getting the Epix gen 2 standard delivered tomorrow…..looking forward to it.😊. Just wondering if you know if all of these golf features are also excluded in the standard addition. Thanks

    How does it know the difference between a shot and a practice swing?

    • @dmz33
      @dmz33 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      probably some vibrational energy from the club impacting the ball. And this shock probably alerts the program that a ball has been hit. However determining the energy from a hard chunk into the dirt may look like a ball strike so it's only a guess. I have this watch and I only use it to save the walk back to the cart to get the range finder. I can just look at my wrist and see the yardage to the green, (not the pin mind you, but the green distance front & back) . Now watching this I can see that I've got a lot more to learn on using it on the course...

  • @WeekendGolfernew

    Does the watch 'feel' if I hit actually a ball or does it also count practice shots?

  • @orangeblack1285
    @orangeblack1285 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How do you handle dropped balls/rehits? And I'm always a bit confused how the app handles on the green. Sometimes I still need a pitch shot from behind the green and sometimes when I look at the watch I'm already at the score card for the hole but I'm still putting. Or how does it work when I hit a ball near the green and I'm in tracking mode to get the distance. But as soon as I approach the green the watch asks me what my score on this hole was. Is it still tracking the distance of the ball I hit on the green?
    And it ask me if I hit the fairway or left or right but only after the round. If I had multiple shots during the round, how does that work? If I miss one left and one right, which option do I choose?
    Also I maybe had it only once or twice now that the watch asked me which club I'm hitting. I usually have to enter the club I want to hit myself. Which really slows everything down because I'm in the menu all the time after/before I even hit a club.

    Do you ever have an issue where the maps don’t load for the first handful of holes? I still get the Front/Mid/Back distances but the GPS Layout takes a while to load. I’m also downloading the courses via the Garmin Golf app ahead of time. Thanks!

    All your videos are great =) I just picked up the Epix Pro 2 and used it on the course yesterday. Super awesome! Although, not sure what my "user error" was but it didn't ask for what clubs I hit. I can see in the Garmin Golf hole-by-hole it shows where I was hitting on each hole, but not sure where I missed getting it to ask me for what club was hit. Also, sometimes it didn't pick up leaving a green and going to the next tee. I had to switch holes or go to the score card and enter score then switch. Any suggestions would be helpful. Otherwise an awesome watch!

      You may need to toggle the "Stat Tracking" on in the settings. The watches default to it being turned off for some reason. I've nudged the Garmin engineers to change that. Hopefully they take my advice some day.

      You need to go into Connect, Click the Watch Face to go to device settings then Apps and select Golf then scroll down and click on for club prompt. It is set to off for some reason as default.

      @@LetsPlayThru Sorry to be annoying here, just a little confused.
      Say I hit a shot onto the green from 150 yards out, Garmin would ask me what club I hit, but Garmin wouldn’t track the distance of that shot because it wouldn’t pick up my putt after that. So would I manually add a shot and set it to a putt when I get to my ball on the green so Garmin knows how far I hit the previous shot?

    The size should keep you from bowing your wrists. It's nifty but I'm not sure I would want that many 'features'-especially at 850-950 dollars (after taxes). Sometimes more is just, well more. I probably wouldn't use most of the features but that is me.
    Dick Tracy would be proud to have it on his wrist though. Garmin is brilliant in how they adjusted their product line as times changed. 20 years ago they were just known for car GPS and geocaching.

    What’s your take on the golf watch vs a golf tracking app on the iPhone?

    • @LetsPlayThru

    Thanks Gabe! That is one expensive watch. I've never used a watch for golf. I use a rangefinder. What are your thoughts on watch versus rangefinder?

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I generally prefer a watch when I'm playing courses I don't often play. That way I know how far to carry, how to avoid hazards, etc. When I'm on my home course, I'm generally opting for a rangefinder 70% of the time.

      Not even close. The distance tracking alone makes it way easier to get in the vicinity of where my ball went faster, especially off the tee.

    • @VernL4
      @VernL4 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. It's actually faster to use the watch. On the last round I played I was with a friend that was using some sort of app on his iPhone. He was constantly back-and-forth to the cart checking distances and changing clubs. (He didn't want to carry his phone in his pocket.) I was also quicker to finish my score at the end of the hole. The Garmin is tracking swings for you, and as you leave the green it asks you to confirm your score. I'm done counting score by the time I walk back to the cart.
