FYI everyone cites their childhood as "the last good years of xxxxxxx" ... Growing up I was always told anything past Erik B and Rakim / Public Enemy was garbage. But .... Hiphop radically changed in the late 90s -- and I mean RADICALLY changed IMO for the worse. Prior to Puff Daddy, it was all samples and had an organic vibe. It was lowfi and sounded like something poor kids made in a basement. Likely because it WAS made by poor kids in basements. Fast forward to the late 90s up rises Puffy and shit got shiny (Mo Money Bad Music). It started to merge with top40 pop music -- which was fucking awful. I'm talking Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Britney Spears. Boy-band crap that was manufactured to hook 12 year old girls. Anyone with a decent taste in hiphop or rock knew that this shit was the anti-music. By the 2000s labels started suing rappers for using samples -- so they switched to making beats on computer. Everything was suddenly sterile, no real instruments -- and no good players. Everything was quantized (perfectly on the grid), it was essentially computer music. And gradually rap drifted closer and closer to pop music. Now you can't even tell the difference. They're one and the same. By 2000 hiphop was considered culturally dead or on life support by most existing fans. The popular stuff resonated with kids who didn't have any prior context and were wowed by the image. G-Unit reminded me of Twlight only for bratty rich white kids who wanted to take a cultural safari as hood. The uber expensive videos and media machine made these guys seem larger than life. It was a sad time -- a SAD fucking time. In hindsight, 50 cent wasn't so bad -- particularly this song was a standout. In tha Club has a good swing to it when you're dancing -- in a club to it. But most of the rap from this time (save for a few songs like 99 Problems, Ded Prez, etc) hiphop morphed into a shitty commercial soulless non-art form -- relying on image more than anything. It's since changed into something new -- but since dirty south entered just after the G unit era its' become something I can't fuck with. It's monolithic. Everyone sounds the same. And it's made by people who have grown up only listening to one kind of music -- that was made by people who had only listened to one kind of music.

Expand your influences and you won't write like you've only ever heard one style of music. Because that's what this reads like. Understand what drove the political force of 60s Bob Dylan and you'll move armies of people, the ambiguous yet evocative words of Thome York (Radiohead) and you can express more about the human condition with one word than an entire paragraph can. Understand Bob Marley -- and that simplicity can cut right through it if you have something to say. Feel Kurt Cobain's scream and seemingly nonsense words -- as a celebration of insanity. A yang to the ying of normal pop music.

Confusion occurs coming up in the cold world
Daddy ain't around, probably out committing felonies
My favorite rapper used to sing, "Check check out my melody"
I wanna live good so, shit, I sell dope for a four finger ring
One of them gold ropes
Nana told me if I passed I'd get a sheepskin coat
If I can move a few packs I'd get the hat, now that'd be dope
Tossed and turned in my sleep that night
Woke up the next morning, niggas had stole my bike
Different day, same shit, ain't nothing good in the hood
I'd run away from this bitch and never come back if I could
Hate it or love it, the underdog's on top
And I'm gon' shine, homie, until my heart stop
Go 'head envy me, I'm rap's M.V.P

And I ain't going nowhere, so you can get to know me
On the grill of my lowrider
Guns on both sides, right above the gold wires
I'll fo'-five 'em
Kill a nigga on my song and really do it

Ten G's will take your daughter out her Air Forces
Believe you me, homie, I know all about losses

One phone call'll have your body dumped in Marcy
I stay strapped, like car seats
Been bangin' since my lil nigga Rob got killed for his Barkleys

I'll kill you if you try me for my Air Max 95's

And I ain't going nowhere, so you can get to know me
From the beginning to the end
Losers lose, winners win
This is real, we ain't got to pretend
The cold world that we in is full of pressure and pain
Enough of me, nigga, now listen to Game
Used to see Five-O, throw the crack by the bench
Now I'm fuckin' with 5-0, it's all starting to make sense
My moms happy, she ain't gotta pay the rent
And she got a red bow on that brand new Benz
Waiting on Sha Money to land, sitting in the Range
Thinking how they spent 30 million dollars on airplanes
When there's kids starvin'
Pac is gone and Brenda still throwing babies in the garbage
I wanna know what's going on, like I hear Marvin

Mid 2000's memories. Bitter harsh times but some good times nonetheless.

Ahora quiero personas cerca no quiero mas gente
this beat goes hard asf

dope beat
La vida a veces gira ,unas abajo otras arriba
Me matas y morimos juntos sintiendo energia

This beat makes me reminisce about all the dumb things I did when I was young
I love to here good music instrumental sometimes...
so many memories
#3 on my Top 5 beats list.
Cool&Dre re Legends
Never fed up with listening to this music
Life been all roller coasters no great adventures
Years of learning and still need a real lecture
So many fights with the world, I keep a temper
Subscribed to the troubles imma loyal member
I close my eyes in front of a mirror
Don't wanna see myself when I can't see a picture
The objectives I've made always get hindered
The hurt can't be expressed so I write these scriptures
Expand your influences and you won't write like you've only ever heard one style of music. Because that's what this reads like.
Understand what drove the political force of 60s Bob Dylan and you'll move armies of people, the ambiguous yet evocative words of Thome York (Radiohead) and you can express more about the human condition with one word than an entire paragraph can. Understand Bob Marley -- and that simplicity can cut right through it if you have something to say. Feel Kurt Cobain's scream and seemingly nonsense words -- as a celebration of insanity. A yang to the ying of normal pop music.
fuck the viper yo bitch fucked me cause im nicer
also cause im sly like a bangel tiger i crash so much
call me collider shit we missin a tire fuck that pass
the lighter im tryna to get higher fuck cops put
up the visor love shotguns so you know that im a fighter
i dont think im a writer im a biter my future wont get
any brighter but every rap i write it gets a little tighter
got some gin and a bag time to pull a all nighter fuck jamie
you a liar 12 gauge striker you pay the piper 7.62 letting off
so im wired dont know if im depressed or just tired shrooms
got me inspired look at all the guns ive acquired endless ammo
is desired my rifle spits fire and my crimminal plan backfired
after these rhymes the counting of time is considered a crime
And the money one earns not worth a lone dime
fakes telling me im gone die fuck that it aint my time
im in my prime stepping on razors throw in the lime
charges will be dropped in no time rather die than serve
time and fuck officer grasso you a hoe and officer downy
for puting out the bounty im still not in the county
if i was id have no problem with getting rowdy told
the cops wife howdy now shes suckin the dick what a stupid
trick im the slickhick that will fuck your bitch knock her
up and dip lifes a trip soon ill be ballin with that drip
im waisted off the henny sips hopefully i wont slip you snitched
now enjoy that nasty bitch
All my life I have been vindicated,
Manipulated,
These words just can’t articulate it
So here’s the basics
Growing up I was alone, my heart stuck incinerating
I was tryna find my home, try and settle in the matrix
But all that really brought was disillusion and confusion
Man was the MVP in the 00s
So uptempo and it hits
Completlely agree...LOVE it
don't know how cool and dre had enough time to themselves during this era, all the beat they produced
too busy runnin shit
Bart kwan Fam 🙌
