I saw this movie when it aired in 1988. I was 5 years old. Even at that age, this guy had me blushing. I didn't know until the end of the movie, that Elvis had died in real life. I was completely devastated for days. He really was my first love. I truly thought that one day I would marry him. I would listen to his music & play with my barbie dolls. I've been a fan since age 4.

When a person jams nothing is necessarily song specific to anybody jamming in particular. When I jam on my instruments at home, many, many songs get played, not just one in particular. All the music Elvis played/sang (at the time) was other artists music, and it wasn't just Elvis doing it! It is called playing cover songs (other artists music) in general. If you were to go to your local nightclub to watch a local band play, they would be playing basically anything and everything (covers) and possibly a few of their own songs. In this film it appears that in the days when Elvis was in the Army, he did not have a band to jam with so, he basically played other peoples music on instruments he had brought with him (guitar and piano, per this movie) while stationed in Germany. Elvis also played other artists music once he was out of the Army and also a lot of music Elvis sang was specifically written for Elvis by other song writers. I don't think Elvis had to worry about writing the music, he just was there to sing it, as that was his gift, right to the end, and up until the end, he had an entire band to back him up. Elvis only had a couple of original songs (that he composed/sang/ and or played guitar on, from what I have found out. One of the songs that comes to mind is, My Happiness (for his mother specifically) which he had recorded at Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee, before he was actually recognized and signed by a record company. I love this movie but I just got done reading the book Child Bride. And it is all about Priscilla. Her life growing up & then her relationship with Elvis. The lady that wrote the book investigated every single aspect of their life. and had tons of real people that were witnesses of their time together. Well Priscilla wasn’t honest about a lot of things. It’s sad to think she actually slept with Curry Grant a few times to meet Elvis! She also plotted to meet him & did her hair to look like Debra Paget his 1st real love! And then Curry told her how to act when she met him. It was all a big act. It worked though. Then at Elvis’s funeral she was in a room upstairs with someone and one of the Family members over heard her she said “They all think I’m crying underneath these big sunglasses when I’m really laughing!” I was so shocked! It turns out her parents did not care at all about her going with Elvis! They made her move with him. She really was in love with a foot ball player who looked like her real father. It was all for PR. The fairy tail prince & Princess type thing.
I really wouldn’t trust that book as much as you did. It is very misogynistic as it tries to slut shame Priscilla when she is 14. It is just very vindictive and the author comes at it as if she personally betrayed them. 😂
When I saw this tv movie as a teenager I though it was so romantic, but watching as an older adult now, it definitely does not sit well. This would not fly these days. Even when this was filmed they did not cast an actress who was the age Priscilla was when she met Elvis, 14., as it would really point out the glaring predatorial reality of the situation, instead of the older teenage romantic fantasy.
Didn't want her to go to cheerleading out of town but let her go to a celebrities house AND visit with him in the states while the family stays behind later on? I don't know but THAT is the part of the story that just never made sense or sat right with me.
