    You have a lot of really good information in your videos. But, in my opinion the music in the background is distracting. Would you consider removing the background music in your future videos so that it is easier to listen to what you are saying ? Thank you again for sharing your information. I look forward to watching your next upload

    Thank you so much. We live in Myrtle Beach about a mile from the ocean, so super sandy soil that is quick to erode. There's also a fine back layer that is some sort of silt that water can't penetrate.
    A nice garden landscape berm with small swales to slow the water is just what we need (on a smaller scale for our yard.)
    Thanks again for this quick and easy video to get my family on board. 🎉

    This is the best video i've ever seen about swales or keyline 👏👏👏. Give me a huge idea for mi syntropic lines!!! 🤩🤲🌱. If you make a swale in the middle of a line you can put in both sides plants and they will take the water 🥰👌. Excelent idea of the mulch too! Protect the evaporation. Clearly a genius 👏👏👏

    I'm from the tropics, in the Caribbean, but I live as far and as cold from the tropics as it gets, Minnesota in the United States. Really liked this video, made it really simple to figure out how to make a swale. Much of my planting area is down hill so the water runs off without watering much, so this video is really helpful.

I have clay also but different water holding capacity depending on the location on the property. Slowly building Swales by hand to provide my beautiful bamboo with water. Thank you for putting forth the effort to produce a video on the subject of Swales. How about an update on your swale project three years later?

Also, how do you prevent from breeding mosquitoes in the open ponds? I’m assuming the swales might not be an issue as they are covered with mulch?

    Wonder how this can be adapted to our uk where river banks burst flood, to colect water and slow down having some kind of "sponge" to slow water flow and collection down yet harvest it and also stop flast flowing river from flushing top soil away and filling with silt.

    I would love some advice on building a swale on my farm?
    Does the ditch have to be in a straight line or is it naturally going to move according to the path of least resistance?
    I have a hill on the backside of my property that is kind of steep and I think it would be a great place for fruit and nut trees because it gets a lot of sunshine.
    I just wanna make sure that this hillside isn’t too steep and that I am building the swale correctly.

    • @Madodel
      @Madodel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "On contour" means "perfectly level." If the swale is perfectly level, the water will sit in the swale and be gradually absorbed into the land. If the swale is 'off contour', which means 'not level', it's basically a drain. The water will flow to the low end instead of being absorbed.

  • @justgivemethetruth

    Is there any general rule or rule of thumb about the most efficient and best density to build swales at. For example say "x" number of feet from swale to swale either looking straight down or "x" number of swales for a given difference in contour. I think one extreme form of swale might be seen as terraced gardening, and that seems to be build from level to level knowing that each bed needs to be a certain depth.

    • @Madodel
      @Madodel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The length, width and height or volume of water containment will depend on the amount of rainfall or water you get in a season and the amount of water you want to retain in your property.
