I'm thrilled that this video was here! I was wondering the tonal differences between the spruce/mahogany bari and the cedar/acacia bari and here it is! I've been gigging a travel tenor for about five years now and have been looking at getting a bari for for a couple months. I appreciate the video.
Thanks for the demos mim. I just sent an Alvarez Tenor acacia wood ukulele back to another dealer due to flaws, but I have to agree they seem to ring on and on and on. A great tone wood. I heard a mahogany Ohana the other day also and it just blew me away. Also a great instrument wood. Will be checking with you soon.
I found the video when I was looking for my first ukulele. All the ukes have been my favourites and I wished I could afford the spruce top (here in Japan a few cheaper ukes (Kala KA-B and MK-B) are fairly available, but I don't like the sounds because they don't resonate enough). A few days later I saw a second-hand but almost new KA-SBG in reasonable price (with a hard case!) at a ukulele shop and bought it at once. I appreciate the video that helped me make a good start in playing the ukulele.
I'm thinking the Kala Spruce top is the best Value in the line. I Love my SMHT that you just sent me, the Ceder top is kinda expensive compared to the Spruce, by the time I'm spending $260 I just went with solid Mahogany & I'm glad I did
Hello Mim, I bought a KALA KA-ATP-CTG-CE Cedar / Acacia Slothead Cutaway with EQ a couple of weeks ago... I’m planning to get a 2nd one as a present and not sure which one I should get. I was thinking on the following two: a). KALA KA-SMHT-SC Solid MHGY Scalloped cutaway SE Tenor or b). KALA Solid Spruce Scallop Tenor KA-SPT-SC. I would like to know what do you think about these selections, also is there something way better than this two selections (same price range) you can recommend me? Thank you, Ben
Time to change up that little chord progression you always play. Beside strum chords how about doing some fingerstyle and playing up the neck a bit? Otherwise we really don't have a good idea of what any of these ukes can do.
Thanks for this. I find baritones though to get a nice uke-like sound with, and the Acacia won hands down. Saving up...

Hi Mim Thanks for the Kala bari comparison video.. Please can you tell me the chords that you played. WHAT WOULD THEY BE ON A CONCERT UKE
I've got the Kala cedar top. Great baritone uke. That said, I'm a big fan of solid acacia from a tenor I own. Hmmm. Oh no, not another uke purchase!
Thanks for your most informative vids, and also for this untiring smile :)
thanks for your very informative videos such a great help

What's the difference in the cedar top and the acacia?
So the first one you showed is the Kala -SBG?
love my ka-asac-b
I’m a sucker for slot Heads!

Yizchal Levi some people like the simplicity and consistency. So it is a bit of a matter of opinion. I can’t please them all.
just put capo at 5 fret on baritone and you have GCEA
Cedar is the wall to go....
