My friend is Lao-American. I think she's afraid of speaking her native tongue because of past bullying. She says she can understand it and used to speak it before some incidents happened and she became quiet and shy about her language. She also doesn't want to speak it because people will ask "is that chinese?" or "is that Japanese?" and she is easily frustrated so she just speaks English. I want to learn this language because I'm always interested in speaking other languages. Hopefully as I learn she wont find it 'embarrassing' or scary to speak in her native tongue anymore. Thank you so much for making these videos! There's, sadly, not much on Lao or how to pronounce some words people have difficulty saying. Thank you, once again! (:
This is really kind of you to help her to get confidence in speaking her mother tongue. Hope she will be more confident in speaking Lao. ♥️ All good luck🍀
Ah! that's awful! And if she says "No, it's Lao" they might say "What's that?"Why are we so annoying, cultures are amazing and languages as well, I'm learning thai and i'd like to learn Lao later
This is really great! Not many resources exist online about Lao language, and these videos are perfect! I'm surprised to see how similar (but yet different) Lao is to Thai.
@Kannah Fang No it isn't. Hmong and Mien are related yes, but both languages borrow heavily from Lao, particularly words associated with government, technology, food dishes, and education. Why? Because Lap is the dominant language, therefore all other ethic groups had no choice but to speak it.
I have a beautiful coworker from Laos, she is in her 60s and I love to maker her smile talking to her in her language. This video really helped out a lot with pronunciation, thanks.
I Love your Chanel my Beauty Friend , warm Greeting from Indonesia your Neighboor Country of ASEAN, Lao is Peaceful Country Beautiness everywhere in Laos.... God bless LAOS
my lao is only limited to a few words, unfortunately. i definitely want to learn some more and surprise my family. my grandma had a stroke a few years ago and ever since then hasn’t really been speaking english, so it would be wonderful to learn and be able to speak to her again. i’m glad i found your channel and hope to learn a lot ☺️
My Thai friends are mostly from Issan near Laos. I can understand about half of these words and phrases because of that. The Isaan people are very similar to the people of Lao if not genetically the same. The negative 'Bor' is often used by Isaan people as in 'Bor Pang' -'Not expensive'. When you use these words in Bangkok the people crack up esp if you're a Farang.
Lao people and language been around for 4000 years this is well documented in Chinese Chronicle history where us Laos people came from. Most of the northern southeast Asia spoke the Lao language from the 1600's just different dialect in some words. Northeast Thailand Issan (which I'm half) people speaks Laos with a mix of Thai. Your very pretty Miss Vanida btw thanks for sharing!
I’m Half lao and my dad never got to teach me bcuz he works a lot and my grandma who only spoke Laos passed away so this is very helpful bcuz I can talk to a lot of my relatives who speak laos
I am going to visit Laos in December, can you make a video on phrases I should know? I was born in Laos and used to speak Laos, but totally forgot how to speak Laos because I haven't spoken Laos for more than 35 years. BTW, the video is very helpful! Great job!
Neva Hong R u for real. I left Laos when I was 7yrs old came to USA in 1979 been for 38yrs and still speak Lao really good. I learn how to read n write Laos, here in America. I think you are a Bullshiter. You still eat Sticky Rice Buster😅😄😎! My cousin was born here and they speak laos ok. If I were you I wouldn't go back to visit they might smoke your ass,for be a dumb ass!
Hi Vanida. Thank you for your channel, i think you are excellent at what you are doing. It is really helping me learn Laotian. Please keep up the good work. I will be in Laos for the first time in a few weeks, thanks to you I can already say many words and phrases. Mark from South Africa.
My friend really wants to learn lao because she doesn’t speak it much and I also think it will be cool to learn with her as well and be able to talk with her family!!
I love your accent! It's so cute! Thanks for compiling this list of phrases, it's useful because I have a friend from Laos and I want to talk to her in her native language.
This really helps, much appreciated. I'll be going to lao next year for my 6 months training @ a local muaythai club not far from where I'll be staying. Thanks

This is really kind of you to help her to get confidence in speaking her mother tongue. Hope she will be more confident in speaking Lao. ♥️ All good luck🍀
Lilly Prakosay Thank you. She is still a bit shy about it, but I think she's very slowly getting used to the idea of it.
Same as my Chinese American friend, but for him he already forgot his language. As a Thai usually my American friends have racist comments.
Ah! that's awful! And if she says "No, it's Lao" they might say "What's that?"Why are we so annoying, cultures are amazing and languages as well, I'm learning thai and i'd like to learn Lao later
This is really helpful, I want to speak more laos, so my family understands me more. Khop Jai ✌️

Lao and Thai are from the same Tai-Kadai language family.
@Kannah Fang No it isn't. Hmong and Mien are related yes, but both languages borrow heavily from Lao, particularly words associated with government, technology, food dishes, and education. Why? Because Lap is the dominant language, therefore all other ethic groups had no choice but to speak it.
Thank your for including the English pronunciation in the subtitles it really help me.
