Spence has had a couple of decent pre-season games and fans are getting carried away, against Bayern he was in no mans land i will wait and see how he performs this season to see how good he actually is.
I think he looked defensively caught out because he was playing on the opposite side which is a lot harder than it looks. He's more of an attacking fullback than he is a defensively skilled one anyways. (Jack)
@@TheIrishHotspur This is why the club needs to sign a left back because Spence cannot play in that position, I would rather see Spence playing at right back with Porro right side of attack, something Ange should have tried in pre-season but didn't.
Totally agree we don't need another rb. Unless the plan is to push Porro forward into the attacking right side position to compete with Johnson, with Spence and Vanderson rotating at rb.
@TheIrishHotspur agreed, mate. It would actually solve one of our bigger issues provided Porro could thrive as an attacker, which I honestly believe he could. He has all the attributes plus the defensive mindset and ability to track back.

Many folks forget when DJed Spence was brought from Forrest/Middlesbrough, he was considered a rising star. He was starting week to week and growing. His own comments said he was excited to come and learn from Conte. Levy brought him to the Spurs he was basically benched and stifled for a season because he was not a Conte pick. As a young person, I would be pissed off as well. These players have a small window to make it in this profession and cannot afford to be screwed over or waste time. He was royally screwed over by Levy and Conte. Ange comes in and he has to be given the chance to prove himself but he was sent off on loan as he was labeled as having an attitude. Now I am sure Spence has grown in the last couple of years but he was always a baller. Look at his film. Just glad he was given the chance. Yes, a bit biased because I was always a Spence fan.
Spence was definitely a rising baller and his confidence was crushed by Conte and Levy. Feel bad for the guy because a lot of it was completely out of his control. Despite that, he has now risen above it and has forgotten the past. I was surprised that Ange didn't keep him around last season, but am happy to see that he is around this time. Spence has taken the high road and has let his football do the talking which is sometimes all you can do. (Jack)

Hey Jack, I don’t think you were wrong. I was sold on Spence from his performance against the scum for forest back in 2022 in the FA cup. Maybe sometim between Johnson and Spence can be reignited from their forest days together. Possibly Postecoglou has seen their games playing together for forest when they got promoted. Remember Porro didn’t get called up to the Spain squad for the Euros either 35 yr old carvahal ahead of him 38 yr old Navas picked ahead of him.
For some reason we haven’t seen Spence and Johnson play together. Perhaps because they’re a bit similar with their preference to use their pace. (Jack)

That's fair, but I think we have to commend him for his strong mentality in rising above some of the unfair treatment he's received by the club. (Jack)
To be fair ITK are now WKFO " we can't find out " . The club has now become very tight on information coming out , the only info is coming from agents . Don't think you were unfair about Spence he had given no indication of being interested until now . He has clearly had a an epiphany , or just had his confidence crushed by Conte . It is unfair to play him on the left it is incredibly difficult to play on the opposite side . You can play left back and be right footed but only if you play there all the time and have grown up with it . Agree about needing a left back cover rotation .
Completely agree about playing on the other side. It's much harder than people think both in possession and especially out of position. I think Spence isn't good enough defensively to play both sides but he is certainly good enough to challenge Porro for his RB spot. A lot of the ITKs have simply been doing guess work this summer, and very poor work of it. (Jack)
I don't believe Spence is good enough. A few preseason games does not change my opinion, it seems like a Levy move to save money to me. But if he is staying, no need for a RB, we need players to compete in other positions like LB, LCB, GK, 6 and a starting RW
According to Ange, Spence has really impressed him as well as the other coaches both on and off the pitch this pre-season. It's only pre-season though and we will find out if he can be an influential player. We definitely need another LB! (Jack)
What I see is walker peters for home trained, and a midfielder if we can rid of manor,locelso and reguilon.then our squad will meet europa qualifications. Next windows upgrades will take place
"From a critic to a fan" - based on what? One preseason game against Hearts reserves? Cause that's the only game he played well in a Spurs shirt. He's done OK against QPR but people lost the plot after Hearts game so after that they hyped everything he did. He was awful against Bayern. Yes he played out of position but so was Emerson Royal and no made excuses for him so why should we for Spence? I remember how many good games Emerson had to play before anyone say anything positive about him. He scored goals, kept top players quiet and people said "one good game doesn't change anything". It seems like one game change everything if your name is Djed Spence. That wasn't even Premier League game but that was enough for people to forget 2 years of shitty performances and horrible attitude.
Chelsea apparently buying osimhen now....they in different league to us with transfers... doesn't guarantee success though I suppose but their spending and squad quality is crazy
In my opinion Chelsea are heading for a BIG fall. There's no structure to their transfers, they are buying the best players available rather than addressing actual needs. They are spending stupid amounts of money and if they fail to get top 4 again this season, and I think they definitely won't, they are in trouble.

if we actually wanted our full backs to defend id understand lookin elsewhere but in this ange system where he wants everyone besides vicario and the waterboys to attack i think spence is fine for this system as back up to porro. Hearin people judge him out of position vs a team like bayern makes no sense, i want money spent on a CDM and RW first but we definitely need another cb or lb dependin on whether u like vdv at LB if needed

Ability and attitude aren’t the same thing. We need to see him in competitive game. Yes he looked good in the recent friendlies.
