We visited in early June and Citymapper was a complete lifesaver for us as we had no experience with mass transit. So glad we watched your videos before our trip!
I used Uber for the first time a few weeks ago to get to the airport in Rochester, NY, on my way back to NYC. I liked that I was able to reserve the car the day before and was able to track the location of the car. Very easy to use.
Your original apps video was an absolute life saver for my trip to DC, so I'm really glad you made an updated one! City mapper made it quick and easy to find exactly where I needed to go and how to get there, and the nps app helped me find places to go when I didn't have anything scheduled. Your videos aren't definitely a must for any travelers to DC that haven't gone without a group before. Thank you for all the work you put in to making sure people have a smooth trip while in DC
In the before times, I strongly preferred riding with Via over Uber & Lyft. The only issue is that their ride availability was never great so I often had to fall back to the other two. I think the ideal situation is to have all three apps and be able to check quotes/availability on all of them any time a ride is needed.
I might be one of the very few that haven't used Uber or Lyft. We live in a small rural town and I don't think there is even any out here. We drive ourselves everywhere. We are visiting DC in June and I might have a bit of panic not being able to control my transportation. Your videos are helping me feel more at ease though. I'm even considering one of your tours. We have 2 full days in DC and parts of 1 or 2 other days. Do you have any sample itineraries? I do realize that 2 days is certainly not enough to see even all the highlights but would love some direction to see the must-sees and make the most efficient use of our time. We are traveling with our 2 youngest children, age 17 and 18 and DC is at the end of our 2.5 week road trip...so there's that too.
In general, yes. Almost all the apps use the same API feed (the same data that is used on the in-station display boards) and it is accurate 99% of the time. MetroHero uses its own formula based on the location of a train on the line. Some people think it is slightly more accurate.
You can still use MetroHero in your mobile browser: th-cam.com/users/shortsJPl-7Ji1rkc

Glad to hear it.
We will be visiting this August for my 40th birthday. Yours and Wolters videos have been very helpful.

Thank you for the kind words.
Great advice, especially for parking for those driving into the area! Thanks!
It will be very helpful if you can show the app icon since there are many similarly sounding apps.
We are going to DC next month and I feel a bit more ready thanks to your videos. Great info and content!
Happy to hear it

Is Via still operating? I haven't seen one of their logos on a car in a long time.
As someone who drives for both ridesharing apps in DC I prefer either because they pay more and you get better clientele.
Is there a replacement app for MetroHero?
Yes th-cam.com/users/shortsJPl-7Ji1rkc
For Transit, get the SmarTrip app, which lets you use Google pay and Apple pay to ride the metro.
Great information, thanks!
thank you very much ,

I don't have itineraries. Sorry. With 2 days you will really have to pack it in. A tour is definitely recommended for efficiency.
Via. Ride share is available but it does not take passengers to MD or VA but it's cheaper than Uber and lift***
Hey Rob, would you trust google maps for getting transit times instead of the other transit dedicated apps?

@@TripHacksDCBut MetroHero is not available Aug-2024. Replacement?
It seems that Washington DC area national parks app already no longer exists, do you have another app that is similar or could you link me the app?
Bummer. "National Park Service" is probably the most similar app.
Never used either
Me I have not
I have never usually have a car
Never used Uber or Lift
Never have used Uber or Lyft App.
Never use Uber or lift
Ended up here after I watched that first video and realizing that some of those apps don’t exist… 😆
Apps are changing all the time!
This video is very helpful in my trip planning. Just found out though, that MetroHero is found away.
