its such a treat watching such a physical setter that has the ability to set from such a high starting point. That gift opens up so many different options for hitters and creates so many opportunities for setter attacks as well. even though setter has been usually a position for smaller players (relatively), seeing physical setters become the norm would be really fun to watch
this is quite possible if you draw a parallel with basketball, where Nikola Jokic greatly strengthens the team as a passing bigman, and it's like a binder in volleyball

Toss with spin and hit slightly under the ball Normally for a jumper youd want to hit on top/on the side of the ball to get top and sidespin, but with a hybrid you specifically hit it with a flat hand on the lower part of the ball to get rid of any spin.
I like that Nikolov is enjoying the game and still so good in it at the dame time but its kinda arrogant that he decided to play as an outside hitter in the last points of the match.
3:50 is honestly just terrible court awareness from Menlo's outside. Nikolov served that ball and is backrow, he can't attack or dump. All the outside had to do was jump with Nikolov and hit his hand for an easy point.
He thought nikolov was going to set it. If he had set it before it crossed the plane of the net and the blocker touched it it would have been a fault for the blocker. Also, pearly he knew Nikolov couldn’t dump otherwise he would have been up to block?
