You are so right.......I was fishing with Gary before anyone even knew who he was or his baits. We were using senkos 3 years before they ever were for sale here in East Texas fishing on lake Hawkins and Holebrook............
You're right. Theres an article from years ago talking about Gary Yamamoto using this to win on Champlain that refers to it as a chicken rig.
Nice rig, Mike. I'll show this to a friend of mine fishin the Yellowstone with much cottonwood on its shores accompanied by mosquitos I imagine.

It seems like this would be a good presentation for a rod holder rod while fishing a primary rod? A trolling motor following a shoreline at 0.5 mph and one of these in a rod holder may be the ticket.

Yeah Mike that’s definitely cool beans, I’ll be using that or a variation there of next derby. That’s so close to the way I’ve been rigging senko style baits, same weight, just hooked Texas in the tip of the tail. Thanks Mike great videos by the way.

That's a chicken rig in the freshwater because it allows you to give the bait a "Pecking at the Bottom" action- Chicken Rig in the salt is entirely different mostly for Flounder- Two dropper loops and a sinker loop

If you take the tension off the line, it believe it will lay flat on the bottom.

Mike have you ever used a fluke or other baitfish profile soft plastic chicken rigging. And particularly during the spawn as a bed fishing presentation? Seems like that would be really effective.
Get a 29 gallon display tank they are cheap as hell and give the depth you need.
And have the camera person cut in close ups so us old feeble people can see what’s going on. Aqua master makes a filter for the tank. Check Amazon. Put a black or blue background on the tank.

Mike, as for which knot to tie to the hook. Do you think a snell knot for this rig offers a better hook up ratio since im pulling up to set the hook? Or any knot would do. Or what knot do you use? If u have time, thanks.
When you cast out very far at all and retrieve a little at a time it's not going to stand up like in the tank straight up and down but cool concept
If you work it correctly it will. Or use a buoyant worm and good to go.

Ike, if I use a 2/0 or 3/0 offset worm hook, how do you think the hookup ratio will be? On say a bottom hopper or trick worm..

I'm new to bass fishing so don't take this the wrong way...Why wouldn't you just use a shaky head? its weedless and presents the same way, or am I missing something here? Thank you
I use this rig but with a Lake Fork finesse worm. Never new it was called the chicken rig though. I guess now everytime I use it I'll have to do a little chicken dance and squak when I slam a hog.........BAKOK..🐓🐓🐓🐓🐔🐔🐔🐣🐣🐣🐤🐤🐥

It’s a cool rig but has to have the worst hook up ratio. I could be wrong but something about the hook placement and standing line.

Slightly lighter. Very similar techniques though.
