      I don't think people even took the time to consider the possibility that it was his environment that was the cause of his aggression.

    So 30yrs doing a handful of tricks I train dogs to do in a week. An enormous and utterly breathtaking creature like that spitting and splashing and spinning round in a circle three times a day for thirty fucking years...

    I agree:
    Actually I was shocked to hear that Tilikum might be suppressed: does death penalty apply to all mammals?
    This is just an animal following its natural instinct, no serial killer!
    It is sad what happened but it was probably unavoidable, since sharks have not a "human" sensitiveness.
    I believe we better watch them in the wild

    @Corkian Tilly doesn't have his family or pod now, and he's clearly not happier. The day he thrashed around with that trainer was probably the best day of his life in captivity as he was for one brief moment doing what orca's do. These creatures roam thousands of miles across the globe. What in the world makes you think it's proper and good to stick him in a cement pool? I mean, look at the size of the poor thing. Hardened prisoners in solitary confinement get more space than that. It's cruel.

  • @nat365

    I'm not saying that all orcas should be turfed out into the ocean, but Keiko's case was neither a success nor a failure. Part of the problem was not knowing exactly which family group he belonged to prior to capture made it difficult (if not impossible) to get him accepted by wild orca. We do know the family groups of some captive whales, so until release is tried with them we'll never know for sure if it can be done. One case proves nor disproves anything; more than one attempt should be made.

  • @Razzlewolfflight
    @Razzlewolfflight 15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Look at the SIZE of him. A tank is no place for a mature male Orca...he's probably losing his mind from lack of sensory stimulation...poor boy. He's taking out his natural frustrations on human beings who don't care about his welfare. Tilikum is just a work horse for SeaWorld, and he's been moved multiple times because he's simply too big and too dangerous to safely work with. He, like Keiko, should be slowly rehabilitated in a sea pen and then released.

  • @Cranma5678
    @Cranma5678 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @ttaillie i do kind of have to agree with you that tilli will never lose his instincts completely but just mainly because he was originally from the wild so he is different from those who were born in sea world. as example tilli is a mammal eater since he is from the wild but kalia for example she is a fish eater she she was born in sea world. those born in sea world are gentler than those from the wild but they will always be wild animals so you must be very careful when workin with them

  • @emblement
    @emblement 13 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    @Corkian I have no faith in man and his hubris, period. As an intelligent creature, it's preferable for Tilikum to live free if only for a day and to die in the open sea as opposed to lifelong imprisonment in a cement tomb having your sperm harvested in order to perpetuate the abuse of marine mammals at SeaWorld for the petty entertainment of thoughtless humans.
    An ocean enclosure might be a happier medium for this particular Orca, however, and Seaworld could still have their way with him.

  • @torbs37
    @torbs37 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @luke32320
    actually Tilli was moved to Florida because he and the whales he was sharing his tank with at Sealand of the Pacific killed their trainer, and was sold to Seaworld after the incident.

  • @ptalor
    @ptalor 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    He's got a droopy dorsal fin. All captive orca's die a lot younger when in captivity. I dont think they are happy to perform tricks for food.

    @Locsam Orca you don't want to forget the backdive behavior too, and @Orlando of course Tillikum can't do a backflip, because he would have to put a lot of energy to that behavior, backdive he can do.

    @PoulnabroneModesty
    Tilly is known for commonly disobeying and refusing to perform tricks during shows. I highly doubt that he 'likes doing these tricks' as you said. As for why he does them, they're given food when they do obey, and praise and attention that they crave in the absence of their own families. If not, they're ignored by their trainers and although they're still fed they don't get the extra treats and feeding could be moved to hours later.

    @Cranma5678 It is not known whether Tili was a transient. Yes, it is possible, but they in all honesty are not sure where he came from in Iceland. Just because Kalia was born in captivity does NOT mean she is tame. To be tame, she must be domesticated - domestication requires MANY generations of orcas working with humans in captivity. Captive born orcas still kill birds. They are the top ocean predator. They CAN kill - don't underestimate them.

    That orca HAS TO BE FREE, like in nature, that's why this kind of animals have a reaction like that, IS NOT an assasine, is just an Orca that swimmed for thousand of miles in his life, now is in a small acquarium, like a jail. Think about that. Animals have to be free.

  • @erinluv182
    @erinluv182 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love animals, and I don't think it's Tilikum's fault what has happened, but releasing him into the wild is NOT what should happen. He is still a wild animal, but is domesticated enough that he lacks the survival skills to make it in the wild.

    • @HunterJumper-ow2oo
      @HunterJumper-ow2oo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's why putting him in a sea pen is a better option. It's wide open, but closed off, so he can't wander into the open ocean.

    @emblement You can't say if he's happy or not because you don't know what he thinks; the pool is pretty big and all he gets all the attention he wants and everything he needs.He has spent a lot of years at SeaWorld Orlando; he knows those orcas and likes them; he knows all the trainers and I don't think he killed Dawn because of he hated her; orcas play with everything they find and he found Dawn's ponytail. The reason to keep them in those parks (I mean good parks) is conservation and education

    animals sense of "enjoyment" is different to humans. Animals are creatures of instinct, and will often do things that they do not enjoy, perhaps it is even painful to them, because they perceive it as being vital to their survival.
    The animals relate performing the "tricks" with receiving food and care.
    Saying that, I'm sure orca do engage in "play" in the wild with fellow orca, this may just be a very unnatural version of that. But really I don't see how anyone could justify capitivity :/

  • @Jenckles
    @Jenckles 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @luke32320 Yes. You are most certainly not his trainer. All obvious things aside, I know for a fact Tili is not currently being treated to a level of luxury - unless of course solitary confinement from the other orcas as well as people is luxury. Yes, I know he can hear their vocalizations, but that does not count; besides, he doesn't even speak the same dialect as the rest of the pod.

  • @Elodee123
    @Elodee123 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    What you don't understand is if he did go back he would probably die in the first month. They no longer capture, thankfully, but they of course had to at some point. Just like zoos and aquariums. Also like your pets at home, even though they're domesticated they came from the wild at some point. Would you rather have him be returned to the wild and die from a respiratory disease, and might be rejected from other pods? Would that be a happy death, sad and lonely? They are treated well at SeaWorld

  • @emblement

  • @laceymws224

    I think that Tilikum was hungry and he thought her hair was fish so put it in his mouth. He dragged her down then realized that he didnt have fish in his mouth so he let go but she was dead. Some of the orcas in sea world have been saved from pouchers who have either killed their parents so they have no way of lookin after themselves or they have been captured or hunted by them. Orcas are very social animals and they like to show off...its in their nature. Sea world are doing a good thing.

    the tank tili is in on the news is a holding tank. it is not his natural tank. their actual tanks are a lot bigger. i've seen them. i go to sea world a lot. those are just smaller tanks used to do little things. i think that seaworls orlando has the largest environment for the whale not sure though. but they are taken well care of. even after the death of dawn i still think being a whale trainer would be an amazing job. i know the risks just as dawn did.and tili is still my favorite whale

    Actually, if you go back into the whole kingdom phylum class order family genus species...dolphins are a type of whale. The other offshoots from whales are the baleen whales and the sperm whales, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks.

  • @emblement
    @emblement 13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @Corkian I don't care to speculate weather the animal is "happy" or not. I'm just saying that a cement pool is a cruel and unhealthy home for a 12,500lb, 23' killer whale. That's not open to debate. That is a FACT. You justify this inhumane treatment of a intelligent marine mammal by saying it's necessary for conservation and education. That's not true either. Seaworld's primary motivation for keeping and breeding orcas in captivity is profit. To suggest otherwise is naive, to say the least.

  • @diosmiopabersematao
    @diosmiopabersematao 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Orcas are indeed brilliantly intelligent but they are large oceanic animals forced to live in a bath tube and perform tricks on a daily basis. They suffer incredible amounts of stress due to the unnatural living conditions so recent events are not unusual. To have large wild mammal like orcas living in a reduced space like goldfish and make a ton of money out of it is acceptable but to witness that animal behave as such isn't?

  • @Mylestring
    @Mylestring 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @emblement So you have faith in those who want to put him alone in the middle of the sea and expect him to be happy far of his home.

  • @nat365
    @nat365 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you his trainer? Then you have no idea what he might be thinking. Even they can't be sure. I spend hours on end with my dog and will only ever have a rough idea, imagine trying to read a much more complicated animal, one that has been shown to have not just an extremely intelligent mind, but the only animal apart from humans with a demonstrable culture. You don't just drop a captive whale into the ocean (which is not what the programs do anyway), but dropping them into a tank is far worse.

  • @Elodee123
    @Elodee123 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    what is he stressed about? They are perfectly fine, they would most likely be more stressed in the wild. Especially since he has been in captivity, he wouldn't last in the wild again.

  • @namuchildtake2
    @namuchildtake2 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    really, do you have any idea what you are talking about. killing him for that would be like killing someone's kid for playing to rough and hurting another kid IT WAS A ACCIDENT he was most likely playing with her like he would a member of his pod and sadly she ended up dying sad but he should not be killed!!!

  • @shelbymarie2249
    @shelbymarie2249 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here's another fact for ya: Less than 1% of killer whales in the wild have a slumped top fin in the wild and the wild ones that due are usually sick or have been injured. All of Seaworld's whales top fins will eventually be slumped.

  • @crazyformusic23
    @crazyformusic23 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    yea, but he probably would have lived longer if they wouldn't have released him. and he barely spent time with other whales. he would always follow boats and try and find people. i'm glad tilly can stay at seaworld. they said they don't punish there whales for what they do. i've seen tilly many times in person and i don't want anything bad to happen to him

  • @Razzlewolfflight
    @Razzlewolfflight 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To think this is what Tili is reduced to. A 12,000 pound bull orca, allowed to do nothing more than splash screaming crowds for dead fish. He's too dangerous to work with, but apparently not to dangerous to retire and leave alone.

      And if they don't do what they are asked, food is withheld! They are also withheld affection or any kind of stimuli from the trainers. It's essentially punishment. "You don't do exactly as you're told, you're not going to get fed." That's not "training" that animal abuse!

    Also, look up some stuff about Tillikum. He's not your average orca.

  • @crazyformusic23
    @crazyformusic23 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    if you free him he WILL DIE!!!! you can't free a whale that has been in captivity for so long! he will die just like keiko (free willy)! he used to live in the wild but he can't now just like keiko couldn't. he doesn't know how to survive out there. the ones who were born in captivity don't even know what it's like. captivity is all they know. sea world said they're keeping him and i'm glad cause i don't want to see him die just like keiko!
