Looks like a great little DAP when you are travelling or on the go similar to the original Ipods without having to carry your premium dap brick. I've ordered mine in Orange.
Jump back in. It’s only $85 you have nothing to lose. I haven’t received mine yet, but having tried out the Shanling M0 Pro and the Hifi Walker H2 (returned both) I have high hopes for this.
Does the R1 handle podcasts very well/at all? Didn't see a dedicated player for it in the UI so I'd imagine i'd have to play them like songs, but specifically wondering if a podcast would have the spot saved if I were to stop listening to it? Great review!
I just got it yesterday and love it so far, but I have the following issues. First, when I connect it to do file transfer, my Mac doesn’t recognize the R1 as a USB drive. The second issue I found is that the time settings seem to reset after turning off and turning on the R1. Do y’all think these issues will be fixed with an update by HiBy, or do y’all know a current fix? I appreciate any comment. Thanks! 😊
Unfortunately, I think it's an imbalanced comparison due to the difference in their use case. However, the M300 will always be the more versatile device between the two because the M300 runs on Android. However, I know that the R1 will get more and longer mileage as it only has to play music unlike the M300 that also has to deal with being an Android device. So it'll depend on your use case.
I don't understand the technical part of this stuff at all. Do you know know if my 250 ohm impedance HD58Xs with a USB-C cable would work just fine with the power output this thing has? From what you said, it sounds like a yes but again I'm clueless. The rest of the review was super helpful.
Your 58x has a USB cable? If that's the case, the R1 really wouldn't do much besides provide power to what I'm assuming is a built in DAC/AMP chip in the jack of the cable. I'm not exactly sure if that's the case, but if you found the sound to be enough on the cable, it'll be enough on the R1. However, you might find it a bit lacking if you were using a 3.5mm jack to the R1.
@@obodioreviews Yeah I got it from Hart Audio Cables. I will say it's been better than using an apple and/or samsung usb-c to 3.5mm with the cable it came with. Thanks for the reply.
OB Audio, thank you for the review. I didn't see you mention playlists anywhere. Is there a reason why Hiby doesn't put a big Playlists button? (But can include Album Artist?!?)
I ended up returning mine after a couple weeks. I loved the size at first but that quickly faded. It gets taxing after a while with larger libraries and swiping back multiple times for the main menu. I had Bluetooth connectivity issues a few times, turning it off didn’t help as it M0 kept turning it back on. The final straw was from the M0 freezing up to the point where the screen was unresponsive (wouldn’t even restart) I had to let the battery drain to 0 for it to die and then recharge. This happened a couple of times. I decided to return it and wait for the R1 to come out.
Just got mine in today. Any idea how I get music on my player? Files are reading once I transfer using the included USB cable but nothing shows after a scan. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Did the SD card come from another DAP or is this a fresh SD card where you transfered the songs on the R1? I found that some DAPs don't like it when you transfer from one DAP to another and struggles to read the files unless from a clean SD card
@obodioreviews it’s a sandisk 1tb microsd. I reformatted prior to adding new music. Placed the microsd in the hiby, no files read. Formatted again, this time in the hiby while unit is plugged to PC via USB. Still nothing. Thank you for your reply and any help you can give me!
I started off my journey on ektoplazm.com/section/free-music. Really awesome free FLAC files there. Otherwise, you can check bandcamp's free music gallery
So I just use a cable to transfer music on this? deciding this or ipod classic what do you recommend for someone wanting gym music device and wanting to get away from spotify

The review we were waiting for so long. Aprreciate this one. I need the A-B feature.
Glad to know you'll be using the A/B function! I assume reviewers are the only ones that use this lol
so there is ab feature on r1?

Mine too, I already ordered one. 😀 too cheap not too.
Great video! Thank you :)
Is it possible to create playlists on the device?
Yup!
The 'plastic' is polycarbonate, very tough stuff. It will take knocks better than aluminum.

Can I ask. Is the M300 better. And do you rate it?

Yes it has a keyboard but its not like the one we get on the smartphones its like the one on the keypad phones

The problem with this budget daps is the UI. Better to go to ebay and buy a used LG V30, or other LG phones with the quad dac.
How does the sound quality of this compare to the HiBy R2 II ?
R2 is a little bit more midcentric while the R1 is brighter and leaner

A shame the R1 cant be used as a DAC tbqh. Otherwise a great affordable DAP.
Agreed
The Shanling M0s can be used as both transport and USB dac. $99 USD.
How does R1 compares to the Shanling M0 pro?
Good question, the m0pro is more versatile as far as I can tell. I'd like to know as well.

M0pro has more than twice the power. Also balanced capabilities with the cable.
@@toddlawson6472 balanced is definitely a plus but that requires an adapter as well. For me the issues when I used it made it an undesirable DAP.
