    Charlotte is so well-spoken!
    Will the dancers' individual routines be uploaded later?
    So nice to see Katie and Josephine together again, and providing helpful information! 😍🙏🌸🌺

    This was great! I get asked to help make costumes (because I made one for one of my god daughter's YAGP entry a decade ago, she got a scholarship in London and is in the Corps of the Royal Ballet). I do help out occasionally, but now know I can save my fingers by not going overboard with crystals, beads and other stuff! I love ballet. I stopped dancing when my body developed because 35 years ago it was not the norm to have hips and boobs... but all of those years of dance, the dedication, understanding how to move properly were my saving grace after an incomplete spinal cord injury when I was 27.... Because my foundation was as a dancer I can still use my legs. It isn't always pretty. I would not claim to be graceful. Ballet is not just art. It teaches you things you will not even realize, until your Physical Therapist says to you " I did not think it was possible that you walked in here today because your MRI says your legs should not work". Ballet taught me sheer force of will. Ballet taught me to listen to my body. Ballet taught me patience.

      Wow, that is an absolutely inspiring comment! Im 63 and have been doing just at home barres ( mostly Katie’s from this channel) for a couple of years. I stopped for a few months but just started again this week. Today I was thinking, I think I want my word for the year or goal in fitness this year to be “discipline “. Ballet gives me that feeling.

      You are amazing! Thanks for sharing. Ballet is teaching me how to make the impossible possible. I started at 70 and have spatial dyslexia. Now at 74, I've been in many performances and am totally transformed! Ballet gives us agency over our body! Luv it!💕

      @@juliannefowler150 I love to help behind the scenes. I was never comfortable on stage. But if your zipper broke 2 minutes before the curtain goes up, I will sew you into that costume and snip you out of it, before taking it home and replacing the zipper for the next performance. I do barre almost every day. I think as we age we just gain more skills to help others.

    Randomly misclicked on the video; Ended up learning about the intricacies of ballet (performance, attire and tips) with simple explanations. The algorithm works in mysterious ways. This was an informative glimpse into a performer's life behind the scenes.

    Best of luck 'Charlotte' in your Ballet career. You've got a couple of heavy hitters in Kathyrn and Josephine backing you so I'd say "that is a very good thing."

    Funny story, I picked up cheap satin ribbons at Joann's years ago in a pinch. They didn't match my shoes that well but they basically disappeared against the tights color! Still getting the Joann's ribbons because it looks great and so much cheaper.

    I watched almost all of the streamed performances of the YAGP finals this year and I agree that La Fille Mal Gardee was WAY overdone. Now I completely hate that variation - I can't imagine being a judge and having to see it over and over and over again!

    Can you do a Gaynor Minden pointe shoe-fitting video, please? Because not all of us can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on pointe shoes every month, Gaynor Minden's is the only brand I know of that lasts longer. Thank you for all your amazing videos and insights.

    I asked this on Josephine's channel, but I'll ask here too: why is it called "pre-competitive" when the dancers do compete for honors?

      Good question!

    • @kathryn_morgan
      @kathryn_morgan  ปีที่แล้ว +15

      “Technically” they are their own category because at finals they can compete either classical or contemporary. They CAN do both but it’s not required like Juniors and Seniors. And they win awards in each category- not gold, silver, and bronze etc.

    Can anyone tell me why it is called 'pre-competitive'? They still have finals for it, so seems like it is still 'competitive'. Does it have to do with prizes on offer? Pre-competitive don't win scholarships?

    Why does YAGP allow very young students to enter the competition when they are only able to perform extremely cringe worthy variations?
