“She wears glasses so she’s a nerd”
Close up on Tiffany.
To be fair, Tiffany is a nerd, and we love her for it
Doctor Strange: you don't get it, Peter. This isn't the Sanctum Sanctorum. It's an operating table... and I'm the surgeon.
So you save my aunt?
29:10- that look from Tiffany says, “you’re sleeping on the couch tonight!”
Ah, I see you speak marriage.
@@jameskingman1227 *sitcom marriage
@@comicpop fair point!
@@comicpop*wacky sitcom sound effect here*
@@comicpopto be fair, she did look upset lol
Spider-Man: "What even is a Bend Sinister anyway?"
Dr. Strange: "What, are you dense?"
Are you retarded or sometjing
Peter: Who the Hell do you think I am?… I’m the God Damn Spider-Man lol
Are you retarded
Tiffany at 29:10 that look to Sal... just amazing... makes me laugh so hard... she makes these things sometimes.
Oh my god I laughed so loudly at that part.
She has the best expressions. Doesn't even need to say anything sometimes.😂
"Do not order cookies. Those are DOOM's Oreos, and they are very expensive to import!"
Mostly because Martian Manhunter can smell a comic book oreo from a different multiverse and he will track you down and est your cookies.
Doom sitting there watching Hitler and agreeing with him is hilariously unhinged.
Honestly, I think casual sip and Dormamu just saying "Of course you do. " is what really makes it funny for me.
56:06 fun fact: Klaus Janson was one of Gerard Way’s teachers in college.
Not gonna lie, Baron Mordo and Tarantula teaming up to stop a magic threat sounds like a spectacularly crazy 90s story that absolutely nobody will read until decades later
Thats insane I was just talking with my brother about how frank miller was an underrated spider man artist. I must have manifested this video.
42:40 George! I need the miniseries of this couple now, Marvel.
I love that as complicated as this plot is, with Dr Strange and Doom you could swap Dilby out with the Hypno Hustler and it would barely change.
The Debbi Banter had me laughing too loud at work, Good stuff lmao.
George's return is canon!!!
The bend sinister is clearly a left turn.
Before this, I only knew Frank Miller did the art for a fun Spider-Man annual with the Punisher and Doc Ock where the latter tries to poison the ink of the Daily Bugle meaning Jameson can't publish the story since it would sell no papers and cause a panic.
I learn every day that there are more comics than I care to read😂.
@@zionharris9432 That is the blessing and curse of comics. They've gone on for so long there's things you didn't no you would love, things that make you hate life, and things so weird that make you question if being an editor back then was a joke job.
@@chrisdaily2077 I agree that it can go both ways but everytime I got a comic growing up, I was wildly disappointed, especially with single issues, it was like gambling and it kept me away until I found channels like this, to keep me from the mud😭.
@@chrisdaily2077 oh and editors are still a joke, past and present😭 hopefully not future.
"Conga line of doom!!" 🤣
The bend sinister is an insane name 💀
The glasses got me. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard 1:02:03
In a perfect world, Tiffany would've had a ponytail too. I started clapping, I was laughing so hard. Another great episode!
The Bend Sinister.
Bend Sinister.
Bend... Sinister.
Bend-IS-Sinister.
By God...
*BENDIS IS COMING!*
It took me a minute remember Debra was actually in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon.
The thing that would make the bend sinister prophesy truly hilarious would be if Dr Strange travelled back in time 60k years and then wrote down an incomprehensible prophecy only he could understand. Like he knows it's a prophecy for him so it's deliberately written wrong so other mystics think it's incomprehensible gibberish
Their conga line… of DOOM.
I love this channel!
Doom would never try to gain insight from a slap dash dictator like Hitler. Napoleon maybe, that nerd studied.
It's funny, Nabokov's Bend sinister is one of my favorite books of all time. In his book, the meaning of the title has to do with distortion, think of like a distorted mirror or seeing a reflection in a puddle of water etc. But the common definition is usually something to do with being a bastard, in medieval times they would put a slash across the family crest to indicate that there was a bastard in the line then that was the bend sinister.
If I had to guess, maybe Frank Miller and the other author read the Nabokov book and thought it was cool, in which case they are using the term to signify a distorted reflection. That would actually make sense in the clone saga maybe.
35:16 Spidy is either quippin’ or b*tchin’ all while he’s thwippin’🕸️
I know what CBGB’s is because of Gilmore Girls🍁
I feel Peter's rage at the Bend Sinister. WHAT?!
Amazing, spectacular, web of, but never forget the goddamn Spider-Man
Its a good thing this isn't just an audio podcast because we'd then miss out on Tiffanys hilarious facial reactions.
Petition for Ben to change his name to Ben D. Sinister
😂😂
the third comic i remember buying is a Miller Spectacular Spider-Man. for some reason Spidey loses his sight and DD helps him. it's a great story
i was so young when i got it I still had my Mego Spider-Man.
God. That whole tangent about Debra Whitman and her sad life had me rolling! Especially how it starts with Ethan having an outburst of exasperation over finding out there is YET ANOTHER girlfriend Peter has had.
This has to be one of my favorite episodes just for Tiffany’s reactions.😂😂😂
I seriously LOLed at the BatManuel cameo!
I got so excited when Doctor Doom was mentioned as part of this story-I already knew it was gonna be a great episode of back issues because: Spider-Man, Frank Miller, & Tiffany. But then Doom comes up & I’m like “oh this episode is gonna be really GREAT”
33:39 Tiffany raising her hand because she cares, and I felt that, especially because I’m reading Claremont’s run of X-men & there are some things that I feel need to addressed. Like why did Nightcrawler date his step sister???
Fun fact, the lead singer of the band Shrapnel went on to be the singer of the band Monster Magnet.
Poor Deb
The Love Interests Of The Spider-Men would be an interesting discussion topic. So many have faded away. Others have become goblins. A few have died. Miles has a good girlfriend now but Marvel seems to want to break them up so he can be with Kamala or Gwen.
29:08 Tiffany summons all the dark energy of Lucius Dilby.
I had no idea Frank miller did a Spiderman comic because that's interesting.
2:02 Ayy Batmanuel I was just talking about him and the art is fantastic also Debbie is a big nerd with those nerd glasses and I bet Tiffany agrees🤣
Of course Doctor Doom gets a name drop in a Vishanti prophecy, for he is DOOM!
Last year, I found a dollar bin Spectacular Spider-Man #74--the one where Peter dresses as Spider-Man to prove to Deb that he isn’t Spider-Man.
I adore that story for how brazenly it shows Peter to be in the wrong, and I’m shocked they haven’t turned Deb Wittman into a Goblin or something, since they insist on giving everyone in his personal life super powers.

I like to imagine the Book of Vishanti comes in several volumes, like the encyclopedia Britannica
I feel like Doom, a person of let's just say Romani decent, shouldn't really be that fond of Hitler, for obvious reasons.
Doom is bothered not by the presumption that he must loathe every characteristic of his adversaries, but Doom would correct your nearsighted insight by pointing out in the most modern and colloquial of phrases: "Game. Recognizes. Game."
What a criminally underrated Back Issues! Now I’m kinda disappointed that we blew our Doc Strange-Spidey teamup on MCU Spider-Man 3, when we could’ve had the powerhouse return of Lucius Dilby!
The wedgie of wondagor 🤣 amazing!
The Bend Sinister is such a punk band name.
wow a spidey story i havent really heard of, and its comicpop covering it, this is a treat
Sal is actually wrong. Miller is a giant fan of Spider-Man. And he was always pretty open about it. That's why his art kinda weird here - he is afraid to mess up. And that's why he develops so much on Daredevil - it's a character he didn't have any attachment to.
wait so the more frank miller likes working on a story, then the worse his writing and art is? That... makes a lot of sense actually
1:05:00 Damn. Dr. Strange about to go full cenobite on him
I haven’t read this in ten years, but I remember really enjoying it, loved the art and the mystic stuff, and I’m a sucker for anything Spidey, I had it in a collection where Frank Miller also writes a Punisher crossover where they fight Doc Ock, and another where Spidey battles a mind controlled FF. it was a fun collection. Very reserved for Frank Miller.
*shaking Frank Miller* This is a Spider-Man book, Frank!
Anyone else wondering how Frank’s art gets from this to DK2?
OMG Debra Whitman 😳 Sal, thank you for pointing out how much of a dickhead Peter was during their relationship. Peter would constantly forget or abandon Debra on dates, apologize, lead her on, then forget or abandon her again. Peter’s refusal to either commit or call off their relationship was infuriating. In Deb’s final issues it was revealed that she had been the victim of domestic abuse before she came to ESU, which just made Peter’s treatment of her even worse in retrospect. I have no idea what the writers were thinking. It was genuinely unpleasant to read her issues because Peter was such an awful boyfriend.
First thought when reading the title,” what tha fuck does that even mean” 🤣
1:04:48
Love the HELLRAISER reference
I think it was originally a Spider-man annual and I have fond memories of that art and story.

28:46 I think Sal is sleeping on that couch tonight 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tiffany's like, "You're sleeping on this couch tonight"
Week 7 of demanding you cover the Books of Doom and What If Secret Wars and ALL OBEY DOOM!!!
I’m so pissed they cut Tiffany ripping Sal a new one over the glasses bit
Funny, I thought CBGB stood for "Comic Book Guy's Bar" LOL
Doom would never side with Hitler,
Let alone seek council
Doom seeking COUNCIL!? To a man that didn't succeed in his field no less 🤔
Victor Von Doom 100% used his time machine when he heard the Vishanti didn't use his proper title in their prophesy, he's a DOCTOR god damn it!
The idea of Doctor Strange occasionally popping into CBGB via portal to catch Talking Heads or The Ramones is so bizarrely funny to me. Strange is a closet Television fan confirmed
Cw: Batmanuel jumpscare
2:03 Expert execution celebrating a long forgotten gem of a show! I loved both Tick live action series tbh.
The reference to baggage is at least used in Romeo and Juliet!! Juliet’s father calls her “you baggage! You tallow faced wretch” 53:06
Mastah potta gave Dillbee a sock
I was looking for that joke, and if I didn't find it, I was gonna make it myself.
I broke down laughing at that Batmanuel reference. I don't know why, it just got me.
Wait a miniute... If Deb Whitman wrote a tell-all book titled, "How Spider-Man Ruined My Life" and made money from it, does that mean she lost it all when One More Day happened and erased Peter's reveal? So Peter screwed her over AGAIN! We always talk about the "Parker Luck" but I'd never wish the "Whitman Luck" on anybody. Also, I love your guys' impersonation of Doctor Strange is just Doctor Orpheus from Venture Brothers lol,
I've actually been reading through Frank Millers Daredevil run digitally so I was both surprised and pleased to see Millers art show up on the couch this week
I used to work with a girl who thought Spider-Man didn't talk. Because his mask covered his mouth, and there were so many thought bubbles over his head.
Always love Doctor Strange representation on the channel!!!!
Man…I wanna own this now. The art looks interesting and fun. I feel like every week Sal breaks my wallet.
Peter went to grad school Aunt May must be so happy ....😂😂
I mean he had always went lol She got upset because not too long after this he drops out
Tiffany through the whole Debra Whitman explanation. 😑
watch Sal simultaneously describe Debra Whitman and dig a hole, climb into it, then proceed to keep digging it
Is this how the Sal Crivelli (of ComicPop) / Dave Wyndorf (of Shrapnel/Monster Magnet) crossover starts? They are both entertainers and Jersey guys with a life long love of comics
Honestly hope that on Halloween we get Spider-man: Hooky, which is pretty great one shot with bizarre plot for Spider-man comic, or Spider-man: Fever, yet another cross over with Dr. Strange, which is pretty loved.
Ironically just re-read this a month ago
I love the Ghost Rider shirt, Tiffany.
Thank you!!
Bend Sinister will turn out to be some Mr. Sinister shenanigan
I actually had a reprint of this story growing up. It's weird, but in a good way. It's been long enough since I last read it that I completely forgot it was drawn by Frank Miller.
Irs be3n so damn busy at work I never got to do my immediate algorithm comment, but damn I tell you after a rough one and let me tell you it was a rough one its great to sit back and laugh with yall on the big screen, thanks for all you do and being a form of decompression for so many of us
Thank you for letting us be there with yah! I just read this comment to Sal who really appreciated it!
Great episode you guys should do the original daredevil frank miller run from the 80's, primarily the elektra arc.
They’re doing WHAT to Sinister?!?!
CBGB was where bands like Blondie, talking heads, and individuals like Adrian Belew got their start.
If Jeb McKay were to ever revive Lucius Dinby, I’d bet you anything that it’s gonna be a really gross sight once he’s no longer entombed within that Crystal. This isn’t like trapping someone in the negative zone, Lucious is stuck in a Crystal he can’t get out of and there’s probably tons of moisture in there. All I’m saying is if Jeb really wants to chip Lucius out of there, he’s going to be as juicy as a butterball turkey.
Fun fact: Welcome To The Black Parade was written because Way saw the towers fall on 9/11
I know what CBGB REALLY is: Comic Book Guy's Bar! Worst! Reference! Ever!
On another note, I too was wondering why Debra wasn't swept up by the Bend Sinister's song. Could have been an easy out for Peter though if she's right in the middle of a sentence chewing him out, and then all of a sudden her face goes slack and she gets up walks outside and joins the parade, leaving Peter scratching his head going "Oooooooookay?" and then he starts to head out the door after her, but his Spider-Sense goes off forcing him to keep his distance, and also acts as that little call-to-adventure. But again, That might let Peter off too easy, relationship-wise.
Two minutes in and I already lost it at Batmanuel
Always happy to see more Spider-Man!! Maybe you can continue JMS era sometime!
Wow as soon as this video uploaded I was just getting to this story in Amazing Spider-Man now I’m here watching it after reading it
The most confounding comic. Such a bizarre thing
