i am enjoying my nbs-6040 as well. i mostly machine Si-bronze, but also 6061 aluminum and occasionally brass - works really well once the feeds and speeds are dialed in. i found that blowing air is helpful for removing chips before they get "re-cut". I also use some paste type lube, but it likely isn't necessary. are you using the 1.5kW water-cooled spindle or the stock one that came with the machine? enjoy!
@@prfssrleee 1.5kw spindle. I purchased a mister to try. And a single flute cutter. I’d rather not deal with the mister, I think that I’ll be fine with the O-cutter. Should be able to increase the speed once I’m not fighting the chip welding. I might try stiffening the bed, I think that will help too.
You also might try adding some mass to the base. I anchored mine to a 2" pc of butcher block that added about 60 lbs and it actually made a big difference. My surface finish improved a lot once I did that.
