My theory (of both Begin and Be Free) Yoojung represents the closeted LGBTQ people, while Kyubin represents the open ones. For instance, yoojung is always hidden by something, be it behind the counter table, or wrapped in blankets (3:04). He represents those LGBTQ teens who cannot really show their true identity, maybe because of social ideologies, fear, etc. Yoojung often puts on confused and/or timid expressions, showing the emotions of closeted people. Meanwhile, Kyubin is representing open LGBTQ people. Such as being shirtless (being obvious) while the windows are open (eyes of onlookers)(0:28). He shows a much more confident side of openly gay people. The scene when both of them dance together is seriously the best scene of any MV I would have ever seen. The scene kind of symbolizes that whether closeted or open, all of the LGBTQ people are one and together and deserve happiness. (The cherry on top of this scene is the lighting being rainbow colors (1:33) This is just a parallel theory to the kyujung story that ran through both MVs. I am really excited to see if they would add on another couple in future solos or what will happen further to this story.

this is an amazing comment and was exactly what i was thinking too! even the style of music reflects this as yoojung's song sounded a lot more longing and slightly sad (also hesitant and pained). he talks about prejudice in his lyrics too which is so meaningful to me. meanwhile kb's is song open, groovy, and so accepting of his sexuality. i never noticed that about the lighting too! these mvs are absolutely amazing. unfortunately i relate with yoojung's more lmao but i love this representation so much and maybe one day us closeted ones can be free

Every now and then people will try to represent minorities and so often it gets fetishized or ridiculed. It is so refreshing to finally see artists create queer art that is so wonderfully executed. We need more art like the one OnlyOneOf is putting out. Labels don't matter. They shouldn't matter. Clearly having minorities talk about their struggles is more accurate, but demanding private information is simply wrong. This is good representation and it deserves to be praised and share with the world.
Good point! Of course the best case would be to have more lgbtq+ people creating in kpop, but no one should be outed. So as long as the boys of ooo are on board (which they seem to be given how involved they are in the productions), as a lgbtq+ person myself I love this sort of beautiful and respectful representation. This is so cute, after the more struggle filled but wishful message of begin, be free showcases kb's character finally accepting and delving into his desires and finding joy and freedom for both him and yoojung, all while still not shying away from depicting the very realistic hesitation and rocky nature of newfound relationships amidst all the joys. I hope that this will reach people who need to feel seen and who are underrepresented. As somebody in the LGBTQ+ community myself, thank you, OnlyOneOf, for being the voice of so many who are unable to raise their own.

I (and many other homoromantic asexuals) use the terms asexual gay or lesbian because on the one side, it just sounds better and easier, and on the other side, it shows that we relate to the gay/lesbian community in many ways and also share experiences and spaces with them At the same time it also expresses who I am attracted to better than just homoromantic, which is only helpful if you know my gender. That way I can express everthing in just one term I'm sorry if my choice of labels seems confusing and I hope I could explain it as good as my language skills allow me (I'm not a native English speaker)

It's rare in kpop to find songs like this which are bold enough to embrace individuality and differences, and also portray emotions in such beautiful way. Loved it.
i love how the mvs of 'begin' and 'be free' match their sounds so perfectly and also carry the story forward organically. begin was about hopeful longing, be free represents open acceptance and love. what i also love how is they've still retained a bit of the initial hesitation and conflict in the final scenes with yoojung waking up alone-because even through the joys, every relationship is tinged with a little hesitation in the starting. there's so much attention to little, realistic details in these songs!
I hope this song and "Begin" gives people the courage to love who they want to love. OnlyOneOf, think outside the box, they don't conform to the acceptable norms of society and they don't sugar coat anything. They're lovely, beautiful, talented people. Well done!

I feel like people should stop commenting stuff like “I’m so sad they’re underrated/why does no one recognize them” bc imagine how discouraging that is for them, to see a bunch of comments from their own fans about how basically no one likes them over and over again? Personally every time people commented on my work (another channel) to say that it was underrated and deserved more, it made me very happy in the way that people don't simply enjoy it for themselves but also want my work to get the attention is deserves. It really means a lot when they say that. But it's true, it also gives a bitter taste, because they sound frustrated and that's not how you want your content to make people feel. So it's like they love it but they're not happy at the same time. There are ways to comment it that can help focusing more on the praise and positive aspect rather than "I'm failing to get enough attention" and "my fans are not satisfied".

@@mina-vasic I think it's possible for every person to focus on the nice aspect of the comment rather than the negative, because in the end it always comes from a good intention. In some cases this type of comment might even be a source of motivation, as we start to fight for our content to be noticed, not only for us but for our fans. It ads some sense of responsibility. Without those fans who point out where it hurts, we tend to loose our ambition and we slowly accept that "fame" is not for us. In can affect many things in the way we live our passion. Those fans help us realize that we are allowed to want and expect more, that's what's great about it. But I will join what you say on the fact that fame is something that is hard or impossible to control, so when I say that seeing this kind of comments ads some sense of responsibility about the recognition our our own work, it's not just positive of course. On one side we are motivated to do our best, but on the other side it can hurt a lot to realize that our best is not enough. Those comments have consequences, that's for sure I think. It's better to avoid writing them in a complaining and desperate tone that might frustrate the artists more than encouraging them.
Alright, the events in the MVs do not seem to be in chronological order, so I've tried piecing together a timeline of events! *'begin' and 'be free'* 1. YooJung and KB's first meeting - the *last* scene of 'begin' and the *first* scene of 'be free'. One night, YooJung is waiting by a telephone box when a drunk KB suddenly appears and collapses on him. YooJung is unsure of what to do, but ends up taking KB home and caring for him until morning. As he exits KB's apartment, he leaves behind a paper crane (made out of his gum wrapper). KB wakes up, unsure of his memories from the night before. He notices the paper crane YooJung left behind, but can't remember where it came from. 2. YooJung and KB's second meeting. Some time later, KB enters a small restaurant, hoping to get something to eat. None of the staff seem to be present, so KB passes behind the desk to see if someone's in the kitchen. Suddenly, two small paper cranes catch his eye, and he notices that they both look exactly the same as the one from that night. Suddenly, YooJung enters the restaurant. It turns out YooJung is a part-timer here, working the evening shift. As they pass by each other, KB realises that YooJung is the one who took care of him when he was drunk that night. 3. YooJung and KB's third meeting. Some time later, YooJung is doing the evening shift again, feeling bored. He spots KB talking on the phone outside, and they unexpectedly make eye contact. Curious about YooJung, KB suddenly enters and orders some food. Despite some mutual staring, KB leaves without a word. From that day, KB keeps coming back to the café, unable to express his interest in YooJung. He notices that YooJung likes to sing and dance around at work when he thinks nobody is looking, and finds it amusing. Both of them mutually pine for one another, but neither of them make a move. 4. YooJung and KB get together. One night, YooJung is partying around alone in the restaurant, and KB passes by. Intrigued and feeling a burst of courage, he enters and begins dancing with YooJung, and they quickly become more intimate with each other. KB invites YooJung back to his place, and they spend the night drinking with each other. They are implied to have slept together. On the other hand I'm thankful they're not as famous, because these big fandom fans tend to attack other idols that this "couple" interacts in the name of shipping. Imagine Nine getting attacked if he flirts with Yoojung. All I want is for OnlyOneOf to get enough support and success to stay for a long time, they don't need to be the next BTS. VIXX is an example, lots of wins and underground hits but fandom is not loud, big, or disrespectful. Just loyal
They don't need to be the next bts but they absolutely deserve more recognition and respect! Spreading this kind of message is rare in the kpop industry and being a bit famous makes it possible to change that 'rare' into 'popular', they're leading by example.

i think my favorite scene in the mv is the dance party at the diner. the way the rainbow lighting symbolises yoojung being comfy with his queerness and then having kb join him, showing him finally embracing that part of himself and being free (pun intended) because of yoojung. and it doesnt just happen, he has to think about it before deciding to throw himself into it. that moment isnt just them aknowledging the feeligns they have for each other but its also about kb being ok with himself and accepting his queerness, at least to some degree. thats how i see it at least🏳️🌈

Yoojung sounds like he's insecure of the 'forbidden' relationship and wants to be free, while KB is all focused on their relationship without worrying of others, in fact trying to convince Yoojung to stop thinking of others. KB is the embassador of confident gays
As expected, this second solo debut is a true success. KB and Yoojung can be proud of themselves for presenting such enjoyable songs to the public. "be free" feels like another breath of fresh air : the instrumentation and composition are so cool and neat (that bassline... simply chef's kiss) and KB's vocals sound as beautiful and melodious as ever. There are some very interesting and memorable parts in the lyrics too. Finally the MV is a perfect continuation of "begin". It's beautifully shot and has great storytelling qualities. KB and Yoojung can really be praised for their acting and commitment too, all the scenes feel very natural, touching and emotional imo. It seems like they managed to convey perfectly the message, story and emotions they were trying to portray both through the song and MV.
This is honestly one of the best kpop songs i've ever heard alongside Begin. This song is so catchy and i'm really happy that this song expresses freedom.

My theory (of both Begin and Be Free)
Yoojung represents the closeted LGBTQ people, while Kyubin represents the open ones. For instance, yoojung is always hidden by something, be it behind the counter table, or wrapped in blankets (3:04). He represents those LGBTQ teens who cannot really show their true identity, maybe because of social ideologies, fear, etc. Yoojung often puts on confused and/or timid expressions, showing the emotions of closeted people.
Meanwhile, Kyubin is representing open LGBTQ people. Such as being shirtless (being obvious) while the windows are open (eyes of onlookers)(0:28). He shows a much more confident side of openly gay people.
The scene when both of them dance together is seriously the best scene of any MV I would have ever seen. The scene kind of symbolizes that whether closeted or open, all of the LGBTQ people are one and together and deserve happiness. (The cherry on top of this scene is the lighting being rainbow colors (1:33)
This is just a parallel theory to the kyujung story that ran through both MVs. I am really excited to see if they would add on another couple in future solos or what will happen further to this story.

this is an amazing comment and was exactly what i was thinking too! even the style of music reflects this as yoojung's song sounded a lot more longing and slightly sad (also hesitant and pained). he talks about prejudice in his lyrics too which is so meaningful to me. meanwhile kb's is song open, groovy, and so accepting of his sexuality. i never noticed that about the lighting too! these mvs are absolutely amazing. unfortunately i relate with yoojung's more lmao but i love this representation so much and maybe one day us closeted ones can be free

Every now and then people will try to represent minorities and so often it gets fetishized or ridiculed. It is so refreshing to finally see artists create queer art that is so wonderfully executed. We need more art like the one OnlyOneOf is putting out. Labels don't matter. They shouldn't matter.
Clearly having minorities talk about their struggles is more accurate, but demanding private information is simply wrong. This is good representation and it deserves to be praised and share with the world.

Kpop is so censored (especially from a conservative country), that to see them breaking boundaries and sharing their voices...I'm hoping it will change the course of the industry for the future. I hope that this will reach people who need to feel seen and who are underrepresented. I (and many other homoromantic asexuals) use the terms asexual gay or lesbian because on the one side, it just sounds better and easier, and on the other side, it shows that we relate to the gay/lesbian community in many ways and also share experiences and spaces with them
At the same time it also expresses who I am attracted to better than just homoromantic, which is only helpful if you know my gender. That way I can express everthing in just one term

It's rare in kpop to find songs like this which are bold enough to embrace individuality and differences, and also portray emotions in such beautiful way. Loved it.
i love how the mvs of 'begin' and 'be free' match their sounds so perfectly and also carry the story forward organically. begin was about hopeful longing, be free represents open acceptance and love.
what i also love how is they've still retained a bit of the initial hesitation and conflict in the final scenes with yoojung waking up alone-because even through the joys, every relationship is tinged with a little hesitation in the starting. there's so much attention to little, realistic details in these songs!
I hope this song and "Begin" gives people the courage to love who they want to love. OnlyOneOf, think outside the box, they don't conform to the acceptable norms of society and they don't sugar coat anything. They're lovely, beautiful, talented people. Well done!

I feel like people should stop commenting stuff like “I’m so sad they’re underrated/why does no one recognize them” bc imagine how discouraging that is for them, to see a bunch of comments from their own fans about how basically no one likes them over and over again? I totally get where you guys are coming from, everyone wants their faves to be loved!! But the way it’s said is always focusing on the negatives as opposed to just saying “I love this song, I’ll be happy if more people find it!!”
Personally every time people commented on my work (another channel) to say that it was underrated and deserved more, it made me very happy in the way that people don't simply enjoy it for themselves but also want my work to get the attention is deserves. It really means a lot when they say that.
But it's true, it also gives a bitter taste, because they sound frustrated and that's not how you want your content to make people feel. So it's like they love it but they're not happy at the same time. There are ways to comment it that can help focusing more on the praise and positive aspect rather than "I'm failing to get enough attention" and "my fans are not satisfied".

@@mina-vasic I think it's possible for every person to focus on the nice aspect of the comment rather than the negative, because in the end it always comes from a good intention.
In some cases this type of comment might even be a source of motivation, as we start to fight for our content to be noticed, not only for us but for our fans. It ads some sense of responsibility. Without those fans who point out where it hurts, we tend to loose our ambition and we slowly accept that "fame" is not for us. In can affect many things in the way we live our passion. Those fans help us realize that we are allowed to want and expect more, that's what's great about it.
But I will join what you say on the fact that fame is something that is hard or impossible to control, so when I say that seeing this kind of comments ads some sense of responsibility about the recognition our our own work, it's not just positive of course. On one side we are motivated to do our best, but on the other side it can hurt a lot to realize that our best is not enough.
Those comments have consequences, that's for sure I think. It's better to avoid writing them in a complaining and desperate tone that might frustrate the artists more than encouraging them.

Alright, the events in the MVs do not seem to be in chronological order, so I've tried piecing together a timeline of events!
*'begin' and 'be free'*
1. YooJung and KB's first meeting - the *last* scene of 'begin' and the *first* scene of 'be free'.
One night, YooJung is waiting by a telephone box when a drunk KB suddenly appears and collapses on him. YooJung is unsure of what to do, but ends up taking KB home and caring for him until morning. As he exits KB's apartment, he leaves behind a paper crane (made out of his gum wrapper).
KB wakes up, unsure of his memories from the night before. He notices the paper crane YooJung left behind, but can't remember where it came from.
2. YooJung and KB's second meeting.
Some time later, KB enters a small restaurant, hoping to get something to eat. None of the staff seem to be present, so KB passes behind the desk to see if someone's in the kitchen. Suddenly, two small paper cranes catch his eye, and he notices that they both look exactly the same as the one from that night.
Suddenly, YooJung enters the restaurant. It turns out YooJung is a part-timer here, working the evening shift. As they pass by each other, KB realises that YooJung is the one who took care of him when he was drunk that night.
3. YooJung and KB's third meeting.
Some time later, YooJung is doing the evening shift again, feeling bored. He spots KB talking on the phone outside, and they unexpectedly make eye contact. Curious about YooJung, KB suddenly enters and orders some food. Despite some mutual staring, KB leaves without a word.
From that day, KB keeps coming back to the café, unable to express his interest in YooJung. He notices that YooJung likes to sing and dance around at work when he thinks nobody is looking, and finds it amusing. Both of them mutually pine for one another, but neither of them make a move.
4. YooJung and KB get together.
One night, YooJung is partying around alone in the restaurant, and KB passes by. Intrigued and feeling a burst of courage, he enters and begins dancing with YooJung, and they quickly become more intimate with each other. KB invites YooJung back to his place, and they spend the night drinking with each other. They are implied to have slept together. The morning after, KB leaves for work and YooJung wakes up alone in KB's bed.

i think my favorite scene in the mv is the dance party at the diner. the way the rainbow lighting symbolises yoojung being comfy with his queerness and then having kb join him, showing him finally embracing that part of himself and being free (pun intended) because of yoojung. and it doesnt just happen, he has to think about it before deciding to throw himself into it. that moment isnt just them aknowledging the feeligns they have for each other but its also about kb being ok with himself and accepting his queerness, at least to some degree. thats how i see it at least🏳️🌈

What a beautiful song. Kyubin really is fearless and it shows. To me this song is about embracing who you are and being free and shameless about it. It really inspires me and makes me want to take freedom into my own hands. I like how this mv takes the will to begin again from Yoojungs mv and then finally creates the freedom. As expected, this second solo debut is a true success. KB and Yoojung can be proud of themselves for presenting such enjoyable songs to the public.
"be free" feels like another breath of fresh air : the instrumentation and composition are so cool and neat (that bassline... simply chef's kiss) and KB's vocals sound as beautiful and melodious as ever.
There are some very interesting and memorable parts in the lyrics too. Finally the MV is a perfect continuation of "begin". It's beautifully shot and has great storytelling qualities. KB and Yoojung can really be praised for their acting and commitment too, all the scenes feel very natural, touching and emotional imo.
It seems like they managed to convey perfectly the message, story and emotions they were trying to portray both through the song and MV.
This is honestly one of the best kpop songs i've ever heard alongside Begin. This song is so catchy and i'm really happy that this song expresses freedom.
