- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 มิ.ย. 2024
- In a recent interview with the BBC, the comic actor was talking about The Office turning 20 and made a joke about the show being retroactively cancelled due to offensive jokes.
"I mean now it would be cancelled. I'm looking forward to when they pick out one thing and try to cancel it," he said. "Someone said they might try to cancel it one day, and I say, Good, let them cancel it. I've been paid!"

It’s the BBC that needs canceling.
And their threat letters. Amazing how they get away with threatening legal action on anyone who doesn't give money to them.
Vote reform to remove the BBC license fee
@@LiterallyMark1 and then have to switch to other providers who charge far more than the license fee......thanks a lot !
@@malcolmstockbridge2569 no it would be free… the only other change is that the BBC would have to run ads like every other channel EVER
@@LiterallyMark1 Sadly its not quite that simple, the outlets available to advertisers is at an all time high already and the revenues dropped like a rock since TH-cam and other media. The gains to the BBC wouldnt go anywhere whats needed to produce what they do. Also...more advertising has a hidden cost.....when an advertiser uses media to advertise who do you think pays for it ?....you and I as costs for products increase to pay for that advertising spot. Nothing is free in this world.
BBC should be cancelled
It is on my telly
Haha - totally agree 😂
Grow up
What are we talking about… get serious. This is a fabulous show and please don’t confuse it with real life. Ricky is a genius.
Easy enough.
Cancel the BBC I haven't watched it since week 1 of covid.... Best thing I've ever done
Is that really the best thing you've ever done?

I had a knob of a manager called Vince at the time I accidentally stumbled across The Office, I thought it was real 🤦🏽
I thought it was a documentary and therefore not funny.
the bbc proving that the bbc should go ,asap.
Thank you Ricky for making my days better. Don't ever stop doing what you do.
Ricky is brilliant, funny, and legendary. When he said "It comes down to people recognizing things in people." All I could think of was, "That's what she said." ROFL. Great stufff. thank you for this. Ricky should be your prime minister!
Cancel the bbc

My hairdresser’s husband went for a job with the Post Office. The bloke training them turned up in a tight shirt and no tie. He was obviously a gym fanatic and couldn’t do the last few buttons up. He then looked to all the females in the room and said “Don’t be looking at this ladies” pointing to his exposed chest “It’s this you should be concentrating on” circling his face. As she recounted the story David Brent popped into my head.
They still go by BBC, that sound to racist for 2024
It's not an insult though, is it? It's a compliment if anything.

I quit the BBC four years ago & it's been much better for my mental health.
Was my go to in the car but its been unbearable for quite some time now, every once in a while I’ll try again but give it 10 min and I’m irritated again
BBC is a real kick in the stomach for good hard-working taxpayers
I'm still watching it now. I love it to this day. I brought it on dvd, video, on Prime, and even had it on those little playstation portable discs so I could watch it while I was on the move all the time in the Army.
And BBC directors pose as Question Time audience members and we are all supposed to be alright with this. It's a joke
Thank You Ricky Gervais.... ❤
Well it’s actually funny so it wouldn’t get made in the first place.
That makes NO sense whatsoever.
That’s true.
We can’t have anything remotely funny like the Office.
NO laughing please , we’re the BBC.
@@14caz68 There's LOADSA funny on TV, and most of it comes from BBC. The last decent thing on ITV was Rising Damp.
@@tynebar you don’t seem to realise comedy is subjective. Just because you find something funny doesn’t mean other people do.
@@tynebar 1970s !!! Even that wouldn’t be (re)made now.
UsA Office not funny at all. Gervais Office is best comedy EVER!!! And also Extras. No one does comedy better.
True
UK comedy has it's own cultural way of deliverance of comedy. I'm an Asian, seen both. But when USA tries UK comedy the same way it doesn't work. Look at Inbetweeners, a brilliant teenage comedy remade by USA, turned in to a turd. Copying comedy with culture doesn't work
There's an interview with Gervais and Steve Merchant (why does he seem to be written out of the picture) where they state what they DIDN'T want the office to be. This is exactly what the American Office is.
It would be the same if English TV tried to do Two and a half Men. It just wouldn't work. It's down to the actors as well 😂😂
@@carolinejohnson22 Agree 100 per cent.
American comedy is great, and we don't do it well. And they don't do our comedy well.
Check out their attempts at Red Dwarf.
Truly awful.
I disagree, I love them both, different reasons but I love them both.
Thank goodness there are enough of us out there that loved shows like this and are sharing it and the ideas we have from people like Ricky with our children so they don’t grow up to be utter twats!

I worked in Slough in the early 90's, as a backpacker Aussie. Dank, desperate place, but good cheese and onion pasties

Right. So he clearly says the Office would NOT be cancelled today.
I know, yet most of the comments seem to be from people who didn’t even watch the video and are just responding to the clickbait title.
Only one think need cancelling and that's the BBC licence fee.
The BBC needs cancelling, period.

After watching the office, I couldn’t face
the American office.
My son said give it a go, so I watched a couple of episodes.
Brilliant!
The funniest scene I’ve ever seen anywhere on any show

No
I was the same. Avoided it for years then finally started watching it last year. I stopped when Carell left though.
I worked in an office with at least 3 of those pathetic characters that were driving me fcking mental and yes…..in slough trading estate!!
I wish the"cancelled "would get woke.Same up.
Wow, did Ricky write it by himself? I really thought it was co-written. Well, there ya go!
Wonder if the BBC would cancel "It ain't half half hot mum"?
Sadly that wouldn’t even get on the screen today. BBC are so WOKE it is cringe worthy.

What I would love to see is David Brent as he is now as a changed person. Hes older and kinder and generally just a nice guy, happily married with some kids, made a career change and got the therapy he needed. I think him being alright is what people would like to see. That would be the only way revisiting the character now would be worthwhile. You could write new cringey characters around him and have Brent as the Tim character, or the straight man, that would actually be interesting. Have people digging up his past and you feeling sorry for him as he cant escape who he was because people wont let him.
Why doesn't Ricky call everyone a mong anymore? It was great when he called everyone a mong. Then the woke brigade had a go at him for it. Now he's scared to call anyone a mong, when he used to call everyone a mong. Political correctness gone mad. And Derek was funny, when he played a spastic. And that bit in the After Life when the dog knew that the character, Ricky Gervais, was going to commit suicide and the dog made an intervention, saving Ricky Gervais' life. Now that is what I call writing.
Of course it wouldn't be cancelled now. It's literally still available on BBC iPlayer. Anyone who claims this or the American version couldn't be made these days clearly didn't get the joke. That being the bosses have no self awareness, are often completely inappropriate and are basically useless (but ultimately likable) clowns. The shows aren't endorsing the views of the bosses.
His point about being it too sad to see Brent is exactly why the movie shouldn’t have been made.
The film was absolutely shit
Agree and the film was shocking.
He was saying this for years before that godforsaken film was released, but he just had to sell out
My poor late wife didn't "get" The Office for several episodes. She thought it was a real documentary, and not even slightly funny. But when she finally got it, she was such a huge fan. Laughing until she cried,
This show was absolutely brilliant, the whole cast was fantastic.
The Og monster..
Why can't Brent's album "Life on the Road" have been a surprise hit - which I believe it was in real life - and a happier, vindicated Brent is living off the profits.
I travelled during the period of the office and when I stopped Ididn't bother getting a tv. So I've never seen any of it other than clips on YT.
The BBC is now run by the Tories, with many former Tory MPs and advisers in senior roles ( Tim Davie, Robbie Gibb for example).
Now you know what they're using your tv licence fee for.
When it comes to the BBC, which matters more. Who's sitting in the head office, or who's at the coal face addressing the public (I'm including people like Jess Brammar - BBC executive news editor since 2021 - in the latter category, as they act as gatekeepers for those on the screen facing the viewer)
That blurring of the visual must end 😮
I couldn't watch the office. Every time his character came on the screen I wanted to put my foot through the telly.
Sound comedian and ruthless with it. He should speak up some more.
I’d actually love someone like Brent as a boss. He’s actually very fair and there’s never anything bullying or malicious about him. He’s desperate for friends and would always go for a drink with staff. Many managers are nasty bullies who have an army of arse kissers around them. They target people they don’t like, socially isolate them and manage them out. Ironically, they are usually the most vocal about being “woke”. Brent, despite being cringe and incompetent wasn’t capable of behaving like that.
While there are people like that there should be comedy that makes fun of it
The funniest programme on TV since the legendary Fawlty Towers, yes, it was that funny. So called comedy now is no joke!
Ricky was amazing in the Office as was the rest of the cast.
The office training day was a favourite…🤣
The Office!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
no mention of Golden Years, which was the kind of pilot for The Office
I don't remember the last time Ricky mentioned Steve by name...
Thank you BBC for giving us " The Office" and "Monty Python". As a Scotsman I loved the python piss takes of scots and welsh and irish and black people and arabs and french and german and english etc etc. Humour cant be racist if it doesnt discriminate
I had the full box set it was taken when in a burglary 😢 comedy gold
David Brent prancincing around at 60 o hell no we dont need that.
Mainly because we have got the real Ricky Gervais for that.
Just as well we don't have Alf Garnet any more 😂
Lol does anyone think that is progress?....I mean antons a lovely bloke.....
By the time they are finished be pointless owning a tv because it will be full of crap
Pure genius!
For the love of Jebus, never make another show about Brent. 12 episodes and a Christmas special. Perfic! And a film, yeah?
The law of diminishing returns, init.
Now a spin off about Pete Gibbons is another thing. Sounds like a fun bloke.
All episodes available on iPlayer.
Yet it would apparently be ‘cancelled now’ according to half these comments! 😂
And so the world would have missed out on a great tv series. Just to save the feelings of a few tender souls who would no doubt have suffered life long trauma had they watched it.
So pretty much on par with what we’ve grown to expect from BBC journalists, then.

@@mitchellkitts6444 So you know that no one said The Office would be cancelled these days then?
David Brent is so funny because the character is self-important, thinking he's funny and wise, when all he is , is a branch manger of a paper company. David Brent reminds me of the character Tony Hancock played. Thinks he's somebody when he's not.
I reckon David Brent relaxed and contemplative on his allotment at 60 would be…………
Gervais a total genius,,the show was only second to Fawlty Towers
Even the audio comes from the left
My subscription to YT works out about the same as the BBC license - I know which one I would cancel (hint - not YT)

Because someone might get upset and it would affect their mental health
And that's another reason I don't watch the BBC.

Really it would have some success, plenty boomers would enjoy it, and anyone younger would be like “this is just another crap remake of The Office” and looked for something new
The Office wouldn't get made today, and the jokes wouldn't really work.

Tried to watch the Office a couple of times and it wasn’t for me or do i find Ricky’s standup funny. What i do like is when he is debating on stuff like science and religion and you get his observational point in a humorous and jocular way.
Cannot see him ever working for the BBC again, doubt he would want too due to their left wing woke bias and doubt they would want him due to that bias though he is far from being Far Right.
