  • Reamke by Ministry of Culture & Fine Arts from Cambodia being performed at the Ramayan Festival of ASEAN Countries, New Delhi.
Ramayana is known as Reamker in Cambodia and it is a gem of their literature. Adapting both Hindu and Buddhist concept it has departures from the originals such as the emphasis on Hanuman and Suan Machaye, the golden mermaid. Reamker is not confined to literature alone it extends also towards all the Cambodian art forms.
The India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit was the occasion for the Ramayana Festival by ASEAN countries which was held in New Delhi from 20-24 January 2018, at Kamani Auditorium. This was organized by ICCR or the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the premier Indian governmental body that organizes cultural festivals and revives ancient Indian traditions. The ICCR is doing a seminal job of taking Indian culture around the globe and bringing global culture to India.

In fact, Cambodia, also known as Kampuchea, is the only country that speaks and writes Khmer in Southeast Asia.
