Melbourne Water- Sewer Spills

In Melbourne, we maintain separate stormwater and sewerage systems. Despite this, during extreme storm events (beyond a 1 in 5 year storm) stormwater can enter the sewerage network and it may reach capacity. When this happens we may need to discharge diluted sewage at specific overflow location. These locations are generally into creeks or low lying areas that situated away from likely human contact. There is no impact on drinking water quality from this type of action.
