I hope I can come soon to visit central and not coast soon.Maybe when you pass Shewell island you can make video on that spot , it looks like there may be a lot to learn about it.

    I have no idea why I am not a patreon of yours anymore. I noticed one day it had just stopped and wanted me to upgrade. I'll have to go back in and redo my membership one of these days. You are lucky to have friends with that level of knowledge. Back in the day, the High, Low, and Mixture jets were knobs on the outside of the motor because you would adjust them one way to get started, another to troll and another for high speed. Another fix for the plug wire is to put a wrap or two of stiff wire around the plug and then jam on the plug wire. Baling wire is good. I'd order an ignition coil for it. That bad plug was wet and the coil may be on its last legs also. Check your case seal as random splashes shouldn't be able to get inside.

    • @CalicoSkiesSailing
      @CalicoSkiesSailing  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      interesting! its still running a bit rough so maybe a new coil is needed

    Torch tip cleaner or a proper jet drill set are really nice to have to fix carbs. Just go easy as you can make it oversize and then have to replace it. All you need to do is dislodge the junk/varnish/crud from the jet. Ignition wires on outboards are almost consumables. Buy one of the longest wire as a spare.
    Very nice video.

    • @CalicoSkiesSailing
      @CalicoSkiesSailing  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks yea we should prob carry new wires! Just had the boots and springs replaced

  • @karlfair
    @karlfair 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Nice work on the episode. It you can't find a spring boot for your spark plug. You can crimp or solder on a ring terminal and screw it onto the spark plug. When cleaning jets, always use a tip cleaner softer than the jet. A welding tip cleaner will ruin a jet in one pass.

    • @CalicoSkiesSailing
      @CalicoSkiesSailing  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Very true on the using something softer than the carb to clean the jets. I was using a sewing pin but was advised against that!

    Good video lovely Islands, for me of interest it seems the outboard you have is a Yamaha 9 or 15 hp they are the same outboard. The diffidence as I understand it in hp is only in the carburetor reeds are different, to change the 9 hp to a 15 hp change the reeds. What I like about this segment of the video is the repair detail on your old Outboard. As I have what looks like the same 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke, Thank to your effort I have learned now to clean and repair the carburetor. SV Skoiern IV

    • @CalicoSkiesSailing
      @CalicoSkiesSailing  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep that is correct ours is labelled a 9.9 but I bought a new reed valve assembly and made it a 15. We did this prob a decade ago and it's worked out perfectly. This was a bit of a deeper dive than we normally would have to do to get the outboard running :)

  • @4437RR

    Although I'm sorry to be somewhat negative, I'm moved to point something out. Barry, the Old Seadog, has a number of issues on his boat that cause him strife. When a viewer pointed out that preventative maintenance would have averted a particular problem, his response was that he was too busy fixing things to do maintenance. 🤔
    I am disapointed that you would operate that outboard for so many years without referencing the owners manual. If you did, the spark plug issue would never have happened. And possibly the carburetor as well. When all else fails, read the manual.😊

    The carb problems are so familiar. I picked up a 1981 Honda motorcycle at an auction in September of 2023 and had to do some work on the carbs (it's got two) to make it work properly. So this is like deja vu to me. I've had to fiddle with a couple 2 stroke outboard motors of my own to get them to work properly. Also, the aerial segments were wonderful! What multi rotor did your patron send you? I would guess a DJI product, but I happen to like Yuneec products. Either way, I enjoyed the images from the sky. It can help so much regarding where the water gets shallow due to reefs and such. They are more of a tool than a toy.
