Andrew is absolutely correct about Russel Peters. My first memory of really sitting down enjoying a full stand up set was when Russel Peters did his legendary "Be a man. Do the right thing" joke in the mid 2000s.
There's nothing complicated about the Matt Rife "drama". He made an incredibly tame, and honestly...not very original joke about domestic violence. The only people who were complaining were the (relatively large) segment of his fan base who are unfunny women who are just use to seeing his crowd work where he interacts with other women.
I'd genuinely love to see the statistic of how many of the women who have gone to his shows, or who follow him on TikTok...have never been to a comedy club before seeing Matt.
The majority of the people who blew up over that joke didn't like him anyway. That was the 3rd time people tried to cancel him
Unfunny (regular non comedy fan) women have a lot of money because there are so many of them. They could make him a rom-com movie star billionaire, but I guess he rather stay with stand up comedy. Domestic Violence jokes are the same level as George Floyd jokes so No Thanks. I'll look for comedians that punch up at the powerful not punch down on women, trans, and people in wheelchairs. Let Matt tell some Lindsey Graham jokes if he wants to show he's "brave". Brave is George Carlin type of comedy.

If you’re gonna tell a domestic abuse joke on your Netflix special, it’s gotta be clever. With that being said, Matt is young. His crowd work is great, but he’s still growing into the rest. Writing is hard. Being original and clever takes work. He’ll get there, but he’ll get there a lot easier if he can have a sense of humor about his miscalculations and fumbles.
