RC TRUCKING UK scotty555babe I think you are getting there, one can tell you are having fun with the trucks and also with sharing the process, so there are 2 more things you are very good at. By the way your tip on the steering mod using off-set bits I will use it on my Scania build, take care!
Hope the Shop In The Loft works out for ya'll Brother. I know about cold messing with Builds all too well, I'm still running my wood stove to keep my little 200sq ft Shop warm. Just a quick thought on Primers tho, if your Subbers do want to use regular non etching primers then they'll have to sand the factory finish on their parts until the shine is non existent. Etch Primer simply has a chemical in it that bites thru & into the factory finish to make it stick, clearly much easier choice. But bare metal ya'll can use either primer and I would recommend first giving bare metals a wipe with thinner or alcohol first to clean any schmutz off before attempting to prime. Another great video Brother!!
It should be much better in the coming months as we are having the roof re slated and felted so it will be much warmer and I can get a good extraction system in there as its not well ventilated 👍 But it's somewhere out of the way 😀
I see that at 1m44s you are using Autotek Professional brand Grey Primer (non-plastic primer) spray paint. Does this etch the surface of your Tamiya PolyStyrene hard plastic body parts creating a rough primered surface at all?
Hi yes I'm using the etch primer due to the aluminium chassis and axle and other bits but it's perfectly fine for use on plastic, it just bonds to metal better where as standard primer would end up flaking off 👍
PS...forgot to mention, when ya'll are done spraying turn your paint bomb upside down & press the spray buttun for 2 or 3 sceonds. It cleans the spray nozzle so ya'll neve have them gum up with primer or paint.
I always clean everything properly first etc, I'm thinking of getting back into airbrushing too as I used to enjoy weathering things and I want an old look for rusty like its in the process of restoration 👍
Scott do you not rub down between coats to get a better key to get the paint to stick? Also I find when spraying I have to move the parts I've already painted because I get bits of over spray and it spoils the already painted parts leaving small paint particles .
I have an extractor at the side, may not be in view but all the over spray just gets sucked out, and I do all the painting in one so there is no need to flatten as the previous paint is still tacky and acts as a key, I have a nice steady temperature here... the only time really you should flatten is if you have sprayed when its too hot as the paint leaves the can and dries so it feels all dusty as its landed part dry 👍 when I spray outside I give them a quick flatten with wet and dry but indoors I have it just right 👌
That sounds like a good plan for a portable setup around the house, I have an old hoover so this could be a good video to show how to create a little spray booth 👍
Look on ebay for a used second hand one... then go from there... It's one of those hobbies really where everything is expensive, buying the truck is the cheapest part so id recommend a second hand one first to see if its really for you...

Never thought I'd enjoy building it as much as I did! Now a couple of months later, I've begun my second truck (w/extended frame), a dolly and a trailer. It's not cheap but it's a lot up to yourself how much you wanna spit into it :)

Also, I once painted a Tamiya PolyStyrol Mercedes Benz 1838LS cab in Halfords automotive spray can grey primer, that was a big mistake! It etched into the plastic creating a rough surface! I should have used Halfords Plastic Primer! I have only just got up the courage to flat it back (thanks to watching your videos!) and resprayed it with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (Light Gray) and hope to paint the main color on soon. I see that you are using Holts spray paint of code HGREYM07 ( Gun Metal, metallic ), that's a great looking color! I just bought some of the Autotek Etch Primer Spray for the chassis and Autotek Clear Lacquer for the clear coat, as you did. Best Regards

I notice you also paint the leaf spring suspension, does the paint ever crack and flake since that is a moving part?

I just ordered grand king hauler Matt black can I primer it and repaint it the way u did
You would need to flatten the black finish before adding primer 👍

I use a large cardboard box with an old vacuum cleaner nozzle pushed into the side of the box. Not the best but better than nothing lol.
