Assembling with me the Ikea HEMNES day bed that can also be used as an extendable matrimonial bed with up to 3 large drawers that serves as a storage. HEMNES is a decorative bench - day bed can be built by the window corner for a decorative purpose besides that it is space minimising and is a perfect option for smaller rooms as a guest bed.

I am so thankful for this video.I built this bed built the stabilizing L bracket wrong the first time and the drawers would not close fully. A friend liked my bed so much, she bought one i built hers without an issue.
Then, much later, I moved in the professional movers disassembled the bed and I had to re assemble at my new house. Without this video I would not have remembered that the longer wood pieces chris cross and you must go under the bed to apply the back screw with the board on Top (of the back stabilizing long metal on the main frame) while the front long metal piece on the main bed frame, has the wood board under it, And the screw moves from the top down.
So wood slats are applied to main frame and moving drawer piece (no screws hold these in place- onlt the black plastic space holders). Her phone cut out at the CRITICAL PART in my opinion. But have no fear, take the long pieces and remember the back of bed has the screw from under to up-with board on top of metal long piece, while the front of bed has the wood slat under the metal and the screw goes downward into metal!

So this video was helpful but just an FYI to everyone that it really messed me up because the first part where the wheels are put in is done incorrectly and the drawer sliders are to the back of the frame instead of the front so the drawers actually cannot function properly. I had to open the entire piece up and start from the beginning which was extremely frustrating. Just a warning for anyone using this!

Yes I changed videos because of that mistake. I was kind of mad when I figured it out so I just look at the book instead

It's a difficult build to get right with those sliding slats and the metal supports, but your crystal clear video enabled me to finish it completely (solo) in just under 4 hours. It's a great piece of furniture too! Thanks.

What size mattress thickness is better for the Hemnes, 8 in or 10 in? I plan to use a single twin instead of the thinner double-stack
I used the Malfors mattress and is quite comfortable. If you like to sleep in a thick mattress because on the comfort or to prevent back ache then 10 inches will be fine. As long as it fits the Hemnes bed

Hi, is there any issue with the bed durability. Saw some review saying the slats is easy to break if use it as king or adults sleep on it.
No problems with durability. Just don't step on the long metal brackets or step on the slats when it is pulled out open.
We moved and my 160 # daughter slept on the trundle part only, in outstretched position with no issues (till i could rebuild it)
I notice you had the drawer bracket placed incorrectly it still side in easily?

Honestly, it is holding up very well. even after 3 years I had this bed. It is still holding up well

Oh oh thats a tough one girl cos I don't remember them now neither do I have the manual. I will see if I can find a copy of the manual online then I'll let you know.. another thing you can do is go to Ikea and ask them about the Hemnes bed I think they should be able to supply you the nails.

This is an odd question but did you need help lifting the boxes the daybed came packed in? I want to order the bed but not sure if I need to have it delivered vs me being able to lift the boxes. Thank you!

Hi Hilda. At 3:23 to 3:33 I don't think you have placed the 4 pine boards with wheels and metal runners around the right way? They seem to be the wrong way to me, the metal runners with their little wheels at the end should be facing (closest to) the front drawer panel with 3 drawer holes - not the way you have them - otherwise the drawers wont fit in properly at the end stage (and wont have the metal runner track wheel at the face to stop them from being pulled all the way out)...

Is the bed hard to pull out? My is super stiff and the whole bed moves any idea what it can be?!
Check the installation again and try to fix it . I think it thats where the problem lies. I hope this helps.
So i notice that the very first 4 pieces were in the wrong place. The metal part have to face the up you have them facing down. I had a problem there so I look at the book instead. I don't understand how you were able to put the drawers in with the metal parts facing the wrong way 😕

@@SassyHilda I noticed this too afterwards. If you changed it.. how did you remove the screw locks (those chunky circular pieces)? Or had you not placed them in yet? I’m panicking and can’t get them out now 😅
@@malloryoneill2813 Hello dear, yes I noticed the mistake as I proceeded and I corrected before I completed the bed installation. I advice you watch the Video The end and you'll see how I did it... I hope this helps

I watched your video till end .. plz don’t cover up your mistake .. either you remove this video or change completely .. bcos of you I am scared to remove screws now .. plz don’t do these kind of wrong videos and waste people time …
you installed the drawer leg upside down and that is why you were not able to slide it easily, now i have to do it again.....atleast you could have mentioned it in the end to avoid wasting time

And I did the draw rails backwards then fixed it (SMH) The guys over complicate things yours was more practical ( except that one part I complained about 🤣 sorry ‼️
