  • This was super fun! Remember: I'm not a medical professional and only have tertiary training and am making no sweeping or meaningful statements about mental disorders as a whole. I simply was making fun conjecture with Twitch chat about fictional characters for entertainment purposes!

    person with BPD here! while, yes, scaramouche deals with immaculate amounts of trauma, i do believe he demonstrates a ton of BPD-like behaviors. he sabotaged his entire existence within irminsul, as well as projected onto others in fits of anger (to perpetuate his lack of self-esteem and victim complex). he deals with a surreal amount of instability, self-sabotage, even dissociation (could perceive his cutscenes in the sumeru archon quest as such). just my thoughts. i can totally see him with PTSD or the like, but i think it's a pretty popular opinion that scaramouche *at least* demonstrates cluster b behaviors. nice video!

      also, swapping between a god complex and believing he should end his existence, that he wishes he was never born.

      Literally LOVE this comment, I honestly am ashamed this thought never occurred to me! But yeah I think your arguments have almost fully changed my perspective, though I do believe he likely has both disorders (they can tend to run together frequently anyways)
      Thanks for the super insightful comment!

      @@TeyosTrying of course! watched the whole thing! as someone who intends to study psychology long-term, this was extremely compelling.

    Theres an interesting question in there somewhere as to whether the nonhuman characters should even be assessed using human psychological standards. Like without Focalors' interference, there was zero reason for Neuvilette to develop human social behaviours in the first place.

    • @TeyosTrying
      @TeyosTrying  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Woah! I thought about that for characters like Sigewinne and even Mentioned it with Tighnari but I didn't even think about the Archons or Dragons that's such a good point! Heck Albedo, and Scramouch are straight up synthetic

      @@TeyosTrying yeah if we want to be weirdly in-depth with it, Venti as an elemental spirit was corrupted by their attachment to the rebellion against Decarabian, eventually taking on a human identity completely at odds with their original species. The Adepti and even Zhongli himself are shown to have been influenced by millennia of interactions with humans to the point they take on physical forms divorced from their original identities (even Xianyun only eventually being motivated to take on a human form by her attachment to her disciples). Ei's experiment in creating Wanderer is even more baffling, as unlike the Raiden Shogun, he was created with true creative intelligence, unburdened by the same process logic as dictates the Shogun's actions. Whatever motivated Ei to try such a thing is highly questionable, leaving aside the morality of doing so.
      Then you have the Harbingers.
      Without investigating their own individual pathologies too deeply (most of them being madder than a bag of ferrets), the fact they all seem to want to manipulate or kill each other and wield god-like powers isolating them from normal human society suggests that their working conditions and organisational culture is very poor. If they had an Occupational Health department, they'd be permanently overworked. Regrettably, instead they have Dottore.
      This is far worse.

      Firstly; this conjecture of lore mixed with psychological insights is what I LIVE FOR, I think trying to look at the non human characters through this lense is crazy fascinating
      Secondly; an occupational health department or even a human resources department within the fatui is a show/comic/fanfic I need literally this instant lmao.

      Trauma disorder because of her past

    • @TeyosTrying
      @TeyosTrying  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I could definitely see potential for it, the trouble is I was only classifying disorders for the sake of this video as something that kept them from being fully functional or that caused issues for them, and I think she's doing just fine despite any trauma.
      I could totally see the argument for that though

      I could definitely accept that, she definitely has moments that show she's detached from other people's feelings (though they're pretty subtle so despite hating this phrase she'd likely be considered "high functioning").
