  • CSU campaigns traditionally zünftig for the EU Parliamentary Elections. In Munich, the party celebrates with the CDU. However, it's not guaranteed that their lead candidate will remain President of the Commission. A right-wing shift is feared in the upcoming election, but the CDU chief disagrees. Also, the police murder in Mannheim by a suspected Islamist is a topic. Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated in the Bundestag that criminals should be deported to Afghanistan and Syria, a practice suspended due to the uncertain situation on the ground. Now, the Federal Ministry of the Interior announces a 30 percent increase in deportations by April. Shortly before the election, the SPD party headquarters was attacked with paint. In Mannheim, there was a heavy police presence, while the AfD held an event against Islamism. Counter-demonstrators accused the AfD of right-wing extremism. In Cologne, the Greens campaigned with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who also addressed the murder in Mannheim. Green lead candidate Terry Reintke ended the event with a selfie. According to polls, the Greens face significant losses compared to the last election.
