    Fender Marcus Miller and the Warwick Streamer sounds really great !

    I have an Alembic Epic and a Warwick thumb NT5. Both are great basses. Totally different. The Alembic has a unique tone that is instantly recognizable. Only other bass I can think of where I can def. recognize it is a Fodera.

    I was surprised that I actually liked the Conklin the best. However the Warwick Streamer and the Spector Rebop were sounding pretty good as well.

    Japan Precision has very distinctive sound! I like it more than many contemporary basses. Alembic sounds great, too. And the last bass ha-ha :))) it's very unexpectedly. Fretless acoustic & slap - wow, is it possible?
    Thanx a lot! The review is very usefull !

    Not a good demonstration of an Alembic. Alembics played flat are meant to be neutral. In the proper hand, this bass has more tonal variety than all these others. I'm not saying BETTER, just more. Flea recorded "One Hot Minute" on an Alembic Epic.

      6lillium - dead strings compensated by treble boost. That usually ends bad. And the GK amp doesn't help either.

    Based on these demo's I'd get the Spector, however, an Alembic Epic is my regular bass and it sounds way better than the one played here. You do have to spend a bit of time messing with the tone and pickup volumes to bring out their true color which is true for any bass, but Alembics have really wide variations with their EQ's. I'd be curious to know how the bass settings were determined for each one?

    Being a bassist from the old school,I prefer a deep meatier sound then one hears in today's players. Just enough treble and midrange to bring out the resonance and crinkle of new strings. Played through a15" speaker. That being said,the first bass I found quite suitable and wouldn't you know? Its one of the more expensive!!

  • @muriloninja
    @muriloninja 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Spector, Music Man, Fender (Marcus Miller) were stand outs for me, that first Warwick was flat but the Streamer shined through as expected. Alembic was good but very bright, it can do more I know so it gets a pass. For me personally, it's Spector and Warwick for the win!

    Warwick Streamer LX4 was by far the best sounding, although I think the setting on the $$ was off (neck pick-up?).....I would give the Conklin a shout out. The Fenders all sound like crap as they always do...smh.

    • @StrayLion
      @StrayLion 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +WildVideos They're well known for their "many stringed" basses, but they make more manageable ones too. However, I've seen quite a few people deal with 7 pretty well. I'm a 5-string player myself, but 7 ain't too bad.

    Can't help wondering how many here are listening on decent systems rather than lap top speakers. Even with just Boom added to my Mac the Spector is head and shoulders above the rest(it's not even the company's top of the line model)IMHO!

  • @GuillaumeLoANjoe1

    Basses all fine I think but you might work on your amp settings. The sound is too nasally for my taste and it there are hardly any low-mids and that ruins the experience.

  • @szidorbass
    @szidorbass 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    that's a stupid test. warwick was on neck pu the other was on bridge etc.. basic settings on each model would be great.

    • @1BassJohn

    This guy is a legend, managed to make alembic sound that mediocre

    • @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney
      @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Mabugu Alembics are really expensive, and... that's all. They were revolutionary when they were new, but they don't do anything any other modern active bass doesn't do. Yes, they're made of really nice materials, but that's it. Also, have you ever played one? They're super weird and hard to play for people that are accustomed to more 'normal' Fender-style basses, like the necks don't feel like they have any taper. Kind of like Rickenbackers, but even more pronounced. They almost feel like short scales even when they're not. I can't get many unusually useful tones out of them, and my fingers trip all over themselves because of the weirdness. I've been playing about 20 years, and my go-tos are Ernie Ball Music Man, Warwick, and US/Japanese Fender for electric basses, for reference. Some love Alembics, most don't.

    • @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney
      @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They also tend to sound way too sterile and 'hi-fi', really clean and clear but no flavor or soul.
