  • Use IntelliJ IDEA's Swing UI Designer to create a fluid layout by nesting BorderLayout, another BorderLayout, JGoodies FormLayout, and FlowLayout. Add JPanel, JLabel, JTextField, JComboBox, and JList to the form. Create a form main() method to start our application with this form.

The part where you setup the labels and the textfields is missing.

Very well explained, thanks. I was wondering if you are using IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition? Because it looks like the Ultimate but I'm not sure.

I've used both. I believe I used Community in this edition... though I did have to dig a bit to find the Swing toolset. :)

Yes! Finally got back to the series! Question: Is Swing part of the main Java Certification? OCP I think it's called.

Good to see you back! I stepped away for a moment myself - sorry for the delay.
Swing is much less important now than it used to be. It was on the Java Certification Exam when I took it - in June of 1999... but I'm not sure if it still is... and frankly, doubt that it is.
When are you taking the certification?
      Good luck with it!

@@discospiff I'm a PHP dev. For good or worse.
I'm coming here more interested in learning more about OOP and other topics I've skimped throughout the years.
Not many Java jobs in the area also. :/

@@PurpleWarlock Java was #1 for a while, though it's been slipping lately.
The good thing about learning object oriented programming is that it is used in many programming languages! You have a great approach for learning.

This Intellij layout manager is so horrible - very difficult align things where you want.
